Tricky question! There are things I'd like to try uninventing for the heck of it - like seeing if no advances in electricity would really have us all steampunked out - but I can't think of anything that I'd really prefer. Zapping the atomic bomb might have a lot of interesting consequences on the world. WWII would have been drawn out much longer for the US and Japan, which might have made America suffer economically and be less inclined to participate in later wars overseas, so the political scene and world economy would be very different. I probably wouldn't have been born then, though...

I know I wouldn't have been born; my maternal grandfather was on a ship headed from the European front to Japan when the war was ended.
Considering how the Japanese fought for every scrap of island land, imagine how they would have for their home islands. I think at least as many Japanese would have wound up dying, over a much longer period of time, as were killed by the two bombs. Plus, who knows if their culture would have come to revere peace and an end to war so much as a result? I agree, though, America could stand to learn that same lesson from modern Japan's example.
Hadn't thought about the atomic consequences in terms of the world economy. Goodness...

I would uninvent the car, or motored vehicles in general. Before cars and trucks farming was mainly done fairly locally. YOu had local littl towns and quaint main streets. Everything you might need could be ordered or obtained in your local area and you got to know your neighbors.
Now it seems the whole world is nearly paved over and we're taxing the heck out of our resources and the environment. And when or if the oil runs out we no longer have local farm, local manufacruring plants etc... so we'd be in a heap of trouble.
Plus I think if this invention were unavailable, we might have come up with something better and less environmentally taxing.
Though I am half tempted to say I'd uninvent the cell phone too because people can be so freaking obnoxious with them. biggrin
((How are all you Hellsing folks btw? I've only just returned to Gaia after almost two years and I'm happy to see some familiar faces still. biggrin ))

Hi, glad you have you back!
Dunno, the car's pretty handy. It's made a lot of advancement possible and done a lot of good.
Think I'd uninvent the leafblower lol

Ace of Death Think I'd uninvent the leafblower lol rofl You made me choke on my drink when I read this. I don't know how many times I've wanted to offer a broom to the perfectly capable person standing in their driveway waving a leaf blower around, piercing the neighborhood with its obnoxious sound and spending oodles of energy for very little actual work. It's the height of laziness, in my opinion.

Thing is, it takes 4 times as long to blow the driveway off as it does to sweep or rake. Arg.

GS Parallel Mercury I would uninvent the car, or motored vehicles in general... Initially I thought I disagree, because I see trade routes and transportation as positive things for the spread of ideas as well as products. But I'd agree if trains were okay, because they're safer and better for the environment. And on the leafblower note, lawnmowers. Hopefully that would lead to the decline of the lawn.

I like to daydream a world where trains convey bulk goods as necessary and there are still semi trucks to go where the tracks don't run, but they stay outside the city centers and day to day life is on foot, bicycle or by horseback or carriage. Parking lots become hitching posts and road crews keep the way clear of debris and manure rather than filling potholes. The manure is shipped out to the farms for natural fertilizer.
Planes still take people cross the oceans and from coast to coast, motorized wheelchairs are still around with specially reinforced carriages to convey folks using them. The internet and phone lines still keep folks in communication.
