This is a question for all those out there how did you chose your pantheons and the god or goddesses? Is it something like having an affinity for them because I remember always loving Greek mythology no other mythology interested me as much. For goddesses though there's one that has caught my eye Asteria Goddess of the Stars I don't know but whenever I look up at the sky and catch the stars I feel so calm like there's is nothing else sadly I can not seem to find much information about her... Would someone like to help question are there any books out there, sites, anything I really want to know more about her I will not rest until I do emotion_donotwant .

Asteria

It appears she's not so much a goddess of the stars as a goddess of astrology, other nighttime divinations, necromancy etc.

I didn't choose mine at all- they choose me. cat_3nodding

I'd wonder about that- because it seems to me that the way a pantheon is represented could influence people in ways that aren't part of the gods calling us. I mean- look at how many people think they're Wiccan without knowing the first thing about the Wiccan Lord and Lady just because of how they are represented.

Though that could also be people jumping to conclusions about that.

But I'm just going off of very few experiences. I don't know how many people actually follow the pantheon they think they had a connection to before hand. Would be interesting to look into though.

To answer OP: They picked me.

cat_sweatdrop I think that's what I was trying to say- like, I think relationships with gods come in a couple different forms, there's what is most common which is general worship: light a candle, say a prayer but other than that, it's kind of the "mass email" of spirituality. That doesn't make it bad- it's just not personal. I was thinking one of the reasons that seems bad to people these days is becuse of confusion about what a patron is or does in a person's spiritual life. I've read some posts about how the Greek gods interacted as patrons, and I know what it means to have a Loa on your head, and what it means to be called to be Wiccan and I think that somehow those ideas all got jumbled together in paganism.

Then there's dedication- where you're called to serve them in a specific way that's more personal.

I guess I think I see some people confusing "I like this stuff" because it's the surface things that offen get misrepresented with "This stuff is speaking to a part of me that's important".

Heheh oops. I thought you meant something a bit different. But I do agree with what you said.

I think it has to do a lot with wanting to be special too. And wanting instant success in something. Though that instant success might go along the lines of the "I like this stuff".

I have worshiped some heathen Gods and some Greek Gods as well as a few unnamed gods and goddesses. I don't know if I have a matron or patron. I have deities I worship more than others like Odin and Frigga, Niord, Pan, and a few others. But that doesn't mean they are a matron or patron.

I felt a sense of home coming when I started to read the Eddas and Sagas. The more I read and researched those deities. I had always been fascinated by the Greek Gods and they seem to not have a problem with me. So I worship them seperatly when I do.

The Greeks were the first deities I worshiped. The Heathen Gods (Germanic Gods) started to come to me in a dream. The Gods that want you will make themselves known to you.
