Hi, I'm new here and new to being on medication. 2 weeks ago I was put on Lexipro by my doctor, even though my pyschoanalyst wanted me on Zoloft. I'm kind of afraid of the Lexipro because it's a new generation drug and there's no long term reports on it. It seems to be doing it's job alright, from what I can tell, but makes me really sleepy fairly often, but I was told that could just be an adjustment thing.
Does anyone have any insight into if I should request to be put on Zoloft or am I paranoid about Lexipro for no reason? What are your experiences with these drugs?
Thanks for your time.

I only had one reaction to Lexapro when I was on it and that was that I was sleepy all the time. It didn't do anything for me psych wise, so they took me off of it.

So far I think it's helping me a little, but I'm on a really low milligram and may be upping it soon.

Two weeks is an awfully short time to be on a drug. Things may get better with time. But, if the sleepiness is really preventing you from living life (i.e. You can't leave the house to go to work/school), then by all means talk to your doctor about stopping the drug!

Yeah, she said it may be a transitional phase. I sure hope so. It hasn't interferred too much...but to an extent it has.

Lexapro is chemically very very similar to celexa (is it an oxalate of it or something). Celexa has been around since 1989 and has recieved pretty good press.

Its best to give it a couple of months before deciding a drug is not for you.

Lexapro is a very difficult medication. I find that it is like Depakote in a lot of ways. It maybe be a good idea to write down what symptoms really bother you on what days, but all how you feel about the day in general. I had to do that with Lexapro and Zoloft.

Lexapro is basically the same as Celexa--it's the active isomer of citalopram, instead of the active and the not-so-active mixed together.

I'm on 20 mg/day at the moment, and it seems to be working okay. Zoloft worked well for me too, though. Give it some time, like everyone else said.

i would suggest you talk to your psychiatrist about what your doctor perscribed you could also talk to both and see what is going on or has been going on with that medication you could do some research on the internet ... but being paroniod has nothing to do with it you have the right to question your doctors... and i think everyone should because we should eb aware of what we are taking...
