This is a concept thread for a herd based on Europe in the middle ages, and more specifically Arthurian lore of the middle ages... ((WIP))

The Story

As a child groomed by both mother and father to be a great leader, his father taught him tolerance and knighthood, while his mother having fallen from a strange place taught him of the right to rule a great herd one day. He was born to a mystic herd. Both his parents had great expectations and he refused to disappoint either of them.

Lost one day he met Keira a witch of sorts who lived in the forests nearby. She saw great potential in him, and lead him home instead of letting him remained lost. Some time latter finding the mare again to thank her, he spoke to her of his ideals for a herd. Keira spoke to him in return of a stallion that could guide the colt to a homeland he sought. He offered her to come with him as his councilor.

She accepted, and the journey began to find the stallion who could guide them to this fertile land.

Knights Code

A knight was expected to have not only the strength and skills to face combat in the violent Middle Ages but was also expected to temper this aggressive side of a knight with a chivalrous side to his nature. There was not an authentic Knights Code of Chivalry as such - it was a moral system which went beyond rules of combat and introduced the concept of Chivalrous conduct - qualities idealized by knighthood, such as bravery, courtesy, honor, and gallantry toward women.

The Knights Code of Chivalry and the vows of Knighthood
The Knights Code of Chivalry described in the Song of Roland and an excellent representation of the Knights Codes of Chivalry are as follows:

To serve the liege lord in valour and faith

To protect the weak and defenceless

To give succour to widows and orphans

To refrain from the wanton giving of offence

To live by honour and for glory

To despise pecuniary reward

To fight for the welfare of all

To obey those placed in authority

To guard the honour of fellow knights

To eschew unfairness, meanness and deceit

To keep faith

At all times to speak the truth

To persevere to the end in any enterprise begun

To respect the honour of women

Never to refuse a challenge from an equal

Never to turn the back upon a foe

Of the seventeen entries in the Knights Codes of Chivalry, according to the Song of Roland, at least 12 relate to acts of chivalry as opposed to combat.

Nobles/Court Ranks

King and Queen - Leader or leaders of the herd, they over see everything, make the rules. More so the King as the Queen has less decision making power but none the less greatly respected in the herd.

Prince/Princess - Offspring of the King and Queen

Tradesmen
A trade or occupation generally refers to a job that requires some specific kind of skill. It often refers to people who produced goods or services that required specific skills. Generally people who were tradesmen lived in cities. They formed guilds, which were associations of craft people with a specific trade. Tradesmen generally had a higher level of education and had more privileges than people who worked in the fields.

Tradesmen work an apprenticeship, a system of training in which a master craftsman assists beginners in the learning of a trade. Most of the training is done on the job while working for an employer. Often some informal, theoretical education is also involved.

Merchants - Tradesmen called merchants commonly traded items such as salt, iron and textiles. There were also rarer items, such as silk and spices, that came from trades in China and the Middle East.

Artisans - they create crafts and jewelry and a variety of other things

Blacksmiths - this class make metal shoes, weapons and armor for the knights as well as a variety of other items for heavy work.

Territory

The herd would have a large expanse of land containing most types of Terrain in a temperate zone, forests, lakes, rivers, mountains. the lands are beautiful and plentiful with the resources to support a large and continually growing herd. Magic is thick in this location, though no one is sure quite as to why. Protected by the knights each knight would be assigned his or her own domain to protect and the people living in that area would also be under their protection. It is a poor knight indeed who protects the land over the inhabitants.

Allegiances

Sunflare - Both the sunflare and Llyn Dinas are similar in many aspects most closely their Morales initially creating a tight bond between the two herds from the get go.

Moonlight - The King himself Hails from this herd and was born here and so still keeps close ties to this place.

I would like have some plots with the other herds, in some way or another, and perhaps an enemy herd once this little one gets large enough - If you want Llyn Dinas to send a messenger Let me know! Multi herd plots are fun <3

Traditions

Knighthood - Every time a knew knight is sworn in there is a grandiose ceremony in which the herd participates.

Right of Passage - Young Pages and squires go through rights of passages as they grow and advance to the next rank. There is a celebration when a page becomes a Squire and a squire to a knight

Tournaments - The kind had the idea with other herds and within the herd itself to hold tournaments of sort to unite all the herds even the distant ones.

Celtic Style Bardic Traditions - these are actually far more influential than Christianity at this time and so will have more

Culture

Knight's Code, - A moral code for all even if you aren't a knight

Isolde...
I'd like to offer her as a Lady?
Since she was a princess in her world.
I'll talk to Punky about Tristan when I can.
Sadly, Galahad has a herd now...
I'm not sure if I want to change it or not.
