~ The History of Semesta ~
. . . . . . . Here you can read about Semesta's tragic past. Starting with the War of the Skies fought by the old nations of Semesta, and how the Ladies of Semesta brought forth the Elementals of Current day Semesta.
. . . . . . . If you are new to the group, please read through everything here. It is important to know about the world your characters are living in and that includes the world's past. The things described here are considered common knowledge in Semesta and characters will refer to the events that happened in the past. If you want to be able to keep up with what is happening in the Guild, it would be wise for you to read everything on this page. I am not saying you should memorize it, just take the time to read through it before you throw your character out into the world of Semesta.

The Old Nations of Semesta
images made by FireMoon77 You can see the full sized map here.
. . . . . . .
Long ago the three nations of Semesta lived in peace. To the north was the nation of Drygioni. The people here moved the shadows of night as they wished. They thrived in the darkness of night and drew power from the moon in the night sky. The people of Drygioni believed in freedom to do what you wish, without restrictions.
. . . . . . . South of Drygioni was the glorious nation of Golau. The citizens of Golau could move the Sun’s rays with ease. They brought light to the darkest places of Semesta and felt the most powerful while the Sun was shining in the Sky. They believed in order. To them there was a time and place for everything, and everyone should follow the laws set by their government.
. . . . . . . To the east, lay the nation of Ferol. The people that lived there could not move the shadows or the Sun’s rays; they were normal people that lived their life peacefully. They felt like manipulating the shadows and light was like changing nature itself and that no one should have the power to do that. Though they knew better than to challenge the two nations, and settled with separating themselves from the other nations.

The Spark that Started it All . . . . . . . For many years the three nations lived peacefully, but one eventful day changed it all. A dispute erupted between a family from Drygioni and another family from Golau at the border of the two nations. What started as a verbal argument between the two families soon turned into an all out brawl. When the families were finally separated, a Drygioni child was found dead in the middle of the square where the fight had been. Next to the Drygioni girl’s body laid the crippled body of a Golau girl, both of their bodies beaten and bruised from getting caught in the fight between the two families. Enraged, the people of Drygioni blamed the death of the children on the citizens of Golau. The people of Golau took offence to the accusation, saying that they were not the ones at fault for the girl’s untimely death, but rather it was Drygioni that was at fault for both of the girl’s deaths.
. . . . . . . The death of these two girls sparked a fight between the two nations. The battle soon escalated into a war as time raged on. The fight was no longer about the death of two little girls anymore; it became a fight fueled by pure hatred for the other nation. The people of Drygioni felt that the citizens of Golau were trying to oppress their freedoms by making them follow all of their rules and regulations. The people of Golau felt that the citizens of Drygioni brought chaos and havoc wherever they went, and that the Drygioni people needed to follow the rules for the safety of others. Meanwhile, the citizens of Ferol tried to stay out of the fight, not wanting to join either side, they wanted to continue living peacefully as they had before.

The Battle in Ferol . . . . . . . For many years the fighting raged on, millions of citizens, from both Drygioni and Golau, were dead, and even more were wounded and on the verge of death. One fateful day, 18 years after the death of the two children, an army from both nations crossed the border into Ferol, hoping to sneak an attack in on the other. The two armies met at the base of the mountain range in Ferol. The battle raged on for days, and both armies ended up wiping the other out. In the midst of the fight, a Ferolan town got destroyed. Among the sea of dead, the few Ferolan survivors cried out in pain and suffering as they held the bodies of their loved ones. From their hopes and sorrows, two girls rose from ashes.

The Ladies of Semesta . . . . . . . One girl held the darkest desires and deepest sorrows of the people of Semesta. She danced with the shadows of the night and was named Maki, Lady of Darkness. The other held the lightest of hopes and brightest dreams of the people of Semesta. She moved as gracefully as the Sun’s rays and was named Mali, Lady of Light. What was even more shocking was that even though these two girls appeared to be nothing more than teenagers, they bore an uncanny resemblance to the two girls that deaths sparked the war in the first place.

The Peace Talks of Kainat . . . . . . . Ferol, angered by the death of their citizens, was about to join the fight. It had become obvious that they could not return to their peaceful lives if Drygioni and Golau continued their senseless war. The Ladies knew that if Ferol joined the fight, it would only result in only more pain in suffering, so together they convinced the Ferol government to wait and allow them to try to stop the fighting peacefully. The ladies called the leaders of Drygioni and Golau to an island in Ferol named Kainat. The leaders reluctantly agreed. When the Ladies revealed themselves, the two leaders were initially shocked by the similarities between the Ladies and the two children. When asked who they were, the Ladies simply replied, ‘We are two beings born the day this fight began 18 years ago with the death of two children, and we are here to end what was started 18 years ago.’
. . . . . . . For a week, the Ladies tried to convince the leaders to stop the fighting before it became even worse. End things now while things can return to normal. The leaders would have nothing of it, the fight would continue. As the leaders returned to their nations, Ferol prepared their invasion of the other two nations. If the Ladies could not end this peacefully, Ferol would end it with force. The Ladies tried to stop it, but like the other leaders, the leader of Ferol would not listen.

The Battle of the Skies . . . . . . . Ferol invaded both Drygioni and Golau simultaneously. The other nations, already worn from the 18 years of fighting each other, did not stand a chance against the Ferolan forces. The Ferolan army killed anyone in sight, including women and children who were not even fighting back. How they saw it, it was the ones that could manipulate nature that started this war, and by only killing everyone with the ability to bend the shadows or the Sun’s rays, will Semesta ever be peaceful again. This included the Ladies.
. . . . . . . The Ladies were forced to hide themselves on an island outside Kainat to avoid being killed. To avoid detection, Maki turned herself into a shadow, while Mali became a ray of light. They hid in plain sight of their predators. Drygioni and Golau put up a fight, but by the third night of fighting, they were completely annihilated. Drygioni and Golau were no more.
. . . . . . . The 18 years of endless fighting became known for the Battle of the Skies, due to the fact that Drygioni fought with the darkness of the night sky and Golau fought with the light of the morning Sun.

The Civil War of Ferol . . . . . . . As the Ladies mourned the death of the two nations, Semesta fell into a state of false peace. The people of Ferol celebrated their victory and felt that now Drygioni and Golau were gone, peace would reign forever. But once the Ferolan people got a taste of battle, some did not wish to give it up and go back to the boring ‘peaceful’ life they had before. They wanted to live their days with the excitement of battle.
. . . . . . . Two years later, civil war broke out in Ferol. One side wished to live their lives like the people of Drygioni did, free to do what you wished, a life full of excitement. The other side did not want the novelty of excitement disrupting their everyday lives. How they saw it, fighting ended the War for the Sky, and fighting would stop this one too. And for two years the two sides fought each other, and thousands died.

The Ladies Sacrifice . . . . . . . At the end of a year of fighting the Ladies finally came out of hiding. They had hoped that the people of Ferol would stop the fighting on their own, but as hundreds of people laid dead at their feet, they knew that history would only repeat itself. If the fighting went on, Ferol would only end up like Drygioni and Golau.
. . . . . . . The Ladies traveled to the main land, to show the citizens of Ferol that they were still alive and still held the power of the night and sun within their hands. At the base of the mountains, where they had once raised from the ashes, a battle was raging. Maki, moving within the shadows, and Mali, moving at the speed of light, single-handedly stopped both armies without killing a single soul, showing their true strength and power. When they had the attention of both armies a warning was issued. ‘Tonight shall be the last night of fighting. In four days time, your leaders will meet us on the island of Kainat, just like the leaders of Drygioni and Golau had done in the past. There, if they decide to continue this senseless fighting, then we will act and end it all ourselves and a force will fall over Semesta that will change this world forever that none of you could even dream of stopping.’ Then they both faded away as they had the day Ferol invaded Drygioni and Golau.
. . . . . . . Terrified the armies went back to their leaders and relayed the message. In response, both leaders sent troops to Kainat, to look for the Ladies, to no avail. On the fourth day, the leaders of the two armies went to Kainat, each with an army of their own. They thought that the only way to kill the Ladies was to do it when they knew that they would both be there. The leaders met in the center of the island, and when both armies came to a stop, Mali appeared out of the light, and Maki emerged from the shadow of a nearby tree. ‘What is your decision?’ they asked in unison. A moment of silence passed before the leaders yelled for the attack. Men from both sides charged at the Ladies and others started fighting each other. The Ladies did not move, and with a voice that echoed throughout the entire world of Semesta, they said, ‘You were warned, now you must live with the consequences.’
. . . . . . . Mali then turned into a ball of light as bright as the Sun. Maki turned into a ball of darkness that not even light could pierce. As the two essences rose in the air, the fighting below stopped in awe, and then in a sudden flash, both essences split into four pieces, and flew across the skies to the far corners of Semesta.

The Birth of the Elementals . . . . . . . One piece of each essence landed in a volcano. The lava rose up into the form of a person, the hardened lava chipped away from the form to reveal a woman standing on top of the lava. Thus the first Fire Elemental was born. But she was not alone as she walked across the lava more forms began to rise up from the lava, forming more Fire Elementals.
. . . . . . . Another set of the essences landed in the ocean. From the depths of the water, sea foam rose to the waters surface and began to take the form of a person. The foam hardened into an ice shell and then chipped away to reveal a man standing among the sea foam as other forms took shape. Thus the first Water Elemental was born.
. . . . . . . The next set of essences landed at the base of a mountain and sank into the ground. In a matter of seconds, a flower started to grow. The bulb of the flower was striped black and white and when the petals fell a stone figure stood among a field of these striped flowers. The stone began to fall away revealing a man. Thus the first Earth elemental was born. He watched as more stone chipped away and other Earth Elementals were born.
. . . . . . . The final pieces of essence did not land anywhere, they stayed in the sky and the wind gathered around them. As the wind spun around them, a cloud figure began to form. The clouds dispersed to reveal a woman floating in the air. Thus the first Air Elemental was born. She lightly landed on the ground as her brethren followed her.
. . . . . . . As the Elementals were being formed, the voices of the Ladies rang out throughout Semesta, ‘You have gotten what you wished Ferol, there is now no one on the face of Semesta that can bend the light of the Sun or the darkness of the night. But now you will live with the other Elementals Semesta has to offer. They will be the ones to end this War.’ Their voice faded away into the wind, never to be heard again. They had sacrificed themselves to bring life to the Elementals.

The Rise of the Elemental Nations . . . . . . . The Elementals marched across the land; their sheer numbers and strength frightened the people of Ferol. The Fire Elementals were lead by the first Fire Elemental woman, named Vatra. The Water Elementals lead by Mesa, the first Water Elemental. Jord, the first Earth Elemental, lead his brethren Earth Elementals. And finally the first Air Elemental, Aria, guided her brothers and sisters down from the skies.
. . . . . . . As they traveled across Semesta, they displayed their power over their element, and anyone who opposed them, were dealt with as they saw fit. They continued their march through Semesta until they got to the island of Kainat. There, the leaders of Ferol had gathered with the Elemental leaders. It was decided that the nation of Ferol would be no more. The Elementals would each form their own nations, each with their own laws. The citizens of Ferol would then decide which nation they would rather live in, and there they could live as they pleased. Kainat would become a sanctuary for the people of Ferol who did not with to live with any of the Elemental nations, while the nearby island of Dunia would become a neutral ground that belonged to no Elemental. It was on this island that a Hall of Records would be built, and if any war happened to break out again, it was here that the leaders of the nations would gather to bring peace. Finally, within each nation, shrines would be built for both of the Ladies where people could go if they sought guidance from one of the Ladies of Semesta.

The Fall of Kainat and the Rise of Khoi . . . . . . . A thousand years has passed. During the time of the Elementals, times have been peaceful, though some Non-Elementals still resent the Elementals for forcing their ancestors from Ferol to do their bidding and how they divided the Ferolan people. Though these remained nothing more than feelings locked away inside some Non-Elementals.
. . . . . . . One night, a group of Elementals from each nation traveled to Kainat. In a drunken stupor, they destroyed the small tribe of Non-Elementals that lived on Kainat. Only one Non-Elemental survived the slaughter, a young girl named Adele. From her pain and sorrow, Khoi was born. Khoi took the form of the young girls older brother, and he protected the child from the drunken Elementals. Angered by the senseless slaughter the Elementals had caused, he grabbed a sword that a Fire Elemental had dropped. Using the weapon, he swung the sword through the empty air in front of him, where the tip of the blade sliced a void was created. Using his abilities over the void, Khoi took away the Elementals ability to connect to their element, turning them into Non-Elementals. Then he simply disappeared into the night, the void he had opened vanished with him.
. . . . . . . Terrified, the now Non-Elementals went back to their home nations, and explained what happened to their leaders. Immediately, the leaders sent teams of Elementals to Kainat to verify what happened. The teams returned home and deemed what the Ex-Elementals said was true. They also brought Adele with them and declared the island unlivable for anyone. Khoi became known as the Lord of the Void, and somehow, the void he created made it so that it became impossible for any Elemental to be able to control their element while they were on the Island. Plants and other vegetation could not grow on the island, and the water samples taken from the island was deemed undrinkable. It was as if Khoi had made it so no one could ever live on the island of Kainat again. Adele was given to the care of a mage family that lived outside the Aria city of Levego, and the island has sense became a wasteland.

Current Day Semesta . . . . . . . Fifteen years has past sense the demise of Kainat. The Elementals live in peace, and rely on each other as they always have. But the fall of Kainat, brought out the feelings of resentment within the Non-Elementals. Lead by a now older Adele, a secret organization has been formed. They call themselves the Verden, and the group shares a common goal of bringing down the Elementals and taking back what was once theirs. Will the Elementals manage to stop the uprising, or will the Verden finish what Ferol started and rid Semesta of Elementals? What will happen now is up to you, citizen of Semesta. It is up to you to bring Peace and Order to Semesta.
