What is a Magickal Circle?
The circle is used as a safe place to hold spells, and can ultamitly help you with them and contain them. Mostly used in covens, magickal circles can be quite helpful.
-----
Cleansing an Area for the Circle
Once you've found where you want to hold your circle, you need to cleanse it to get rid of negative energy that may reside in it. One way is burning sage in the area, and another way is grabbing a broom and sweeping the area. While sweeping you could chant "Out with negative, I banish negativity" or something relevent. Yet another way is getting insence and burning it and rubbing it in the area, while sprinkling the area with saltwater or just any water. Chant again, and this will help purify your circle area.
-----
Creating a Magickal Circle
Before casting your circle, make sure that the area is cleansed as well as yourself and that you have all the items you need. Rid yourself of any powerful emotions for the circle is a place of dynamic power, and if you are extremely emotional you shouldn't be casting in the first place. Now if you are going to start, visualize a circle around you. Trace it with your finger, a wand, etc. pointing directly at the ground. Visualize yourself inside a sphere in three dimensions. You can delineate your circle with chalk, rope, marker, etc. Now walk the circle in a clockwise manner three times with a tool of your choice or once with an athame, once with water, once with insence, and once with a candle for the elements. Don't worry about how big or small your circle is, just make it in a manner you are most comfortable in.
-----
Casting the Circle
While tracing the circle, concentrate and visualize the boundries going upwards. See the sphere around you, and ground yourself.
-----
Working Within the Circle
Now that you have called and raised your circle, you will need the help of the elements and directions. East, North, South, and West. Make sure you know the coorisponding element for each direction, and which way you are facing in the circle. (Compass is a godly tool.) Go into each corner asking them for their blessings and presence while you preside in the circle. Ask whatever you feel is appropriate for the direction. You might also have a symbol of each element with you in the circle, like water for water, insence for air, a stone for earth, and a candle for fire.
-----
Entering and Leaving the Circle
Obviously you are in the circle, but if you need someone to come in with you follow these simple instructions. Grab the item that you had while walking the outside of the circle, and "carve" a door into the sphere for the person on the other side. When finished, close the door with the tool again. If you do not have the tool, merely use your hands and fingers.
-----
Lowering the Circle
Once you have finished, you will need to lower the circle. Do this by bidding farewell to each of the corners and thanking them, as well as the god/goddess you serve. Then rewalk the circle with your tool, and imagine it gone.
