BETA WEEKEND #1 - Ending ceremony

Personally, I prefer the first BWE ending ceremony better. The event took place in the Wayfarer Foothills, near the Norn starting area. Before I go into much detail about the event, let me first give some backstory about the Norn. The Norn are a race who want to make their name legendary. They want their ancestors to sing their name in songs and tell their tale throughout the ages. When I rolled a low level Norn, my character had to go out into the wild and slay a beast in order to partake in the Great Hunt.

That being said, for the first closing event, players were tasked to kill elite critters. These critters were the normal size. (Tiny rabbits and squirrels.) However these tiny critters were equivalent to elite mobs. This entertaining clip depicts the first part of the event well:

After that, we preceded to kill larger animals, and then eventually these large, blue chocobo's.

BETA WEEKEND #2 - Ending ceremony

The first time around, my server didn't get to experience most of this event. I also didn't get that far with my Charr in order to fully appreciate whatever lore inspired this event.

The event took place near the Charr starting area. Supposedly, a dragon flew overhead. Players then followed Rytlock or Eir around as they lead the group from place to place. As they wandered about, players were tasked to seek out and kill the Infected.

If you died, you were resurrected as one of the Infected. Your new objective was to seek out and kill the remaining survivors. Most likely, the event would have been pushed further along the track, however my server were being a bunch of douches and decided it would be a cool idea to relog and revert back into their original, un-Infected selves.

Needless to say, we didn't get to experience anything past that point. It would've been cool if, for the conclusion of that event, ArenaNet decided to blow up the area, which seems to be the general solution for cleaning up a worldwide, catastrophic event. (i.e., Resident Evil, that Aliens/Predator movie. There are others, they're just not coming to mind atm.)

BETA WEEKEND #3 - Ending ceremony

I honestly did not get the reference to this until after the event was over. After I found out that the event was based on Battle Royale and the Hunger Games, I felt like the joke was initially lost on me. It just went over my head.

Granted, I probably would've loved it if I had gotten the reference, but sadly that was not the case. Instead, I did what any hapless player would do: I ran ahead out of the cave, following the big mass of players and read what was said in chat.

Word to the wise: in events such as these, only fools trust what is typed in the chat box. On my server, people were saying, "stick together as a group."

I thought, 'that makes sense. This is war, it's our team against everybody else. Strength in numbers.'

Sadly, no. The only real objective of the game was to be the last man standing. On our server that person just went about running around gathering food (so he could replenish his health).

And here I thought the means to the goal was via PVP. How wrong I was.

I only heard about them, as being midnight on a Sunday I had to get some rest for work the next day (alas!). However, my friend did get to mess around with the first event, and we watched many a video on it. We both liked simply because it was kind of a little goofy, with a dozen people trying desperately to take down a rabbit. (many Monty Python jokes and references ensued)

I dunno, this last one was pretty intense... really intense.

@ FireSpark:
I certainly got a kick out of that first BWE ending event. To me, it felt like an outdoor raid--something which ArenaNet desperately needs (PVE-wise), especially if they're not going to have any end game.

@ Nirati:
You could cheat the system and relog. If you did this, your character was uninfected.

@ ll dell Orso ll:
Which one? The zombie one?

I didn't get to play the first BWE ending event, but I got to join in on the last two. I have to say, I loved both, but I liked the BWE for three a litte better. Me and a couple people just decided to hide out and ambush unwitting groups. Since we were by a river, I just set up those explosive rations, and when people ate them, I sniped them and dove under the water to avoid retaliation. The 2nd BWE was fun, but there were a lot of spoil sports who kept logging out after they got corrupted or hiding behind the legendary defenders to make victory impossible for the dragon's team.
