In a time before the idea of the Hakurei Barrier was imagined, the world was filled with many mythical creatures. I can remember it now...
The City of Yorokobi, or to be more professional...the kingdom of Yorokobi. named after Hanalli and her wonderful aura. It was our kingdom. The four of us were at peace.
Hanalli, the being of Joy.
Sorina, the being of Sorrow.
Anera, the being of Rage.
And myself, Nahumar. Being of Fear.
The four of us were as close to idols of worship as many other powerful beings at the time. We worked as a group. They gave tribute to us by offering various plant life.
The Dandelion. A weed like flower that is happy even when ruining a crop. Hanalli adores the flowers so.
The rose. A flower so beautiful, you wonder why it feels sad when it's thorns p***k you on accident. Sorina related to the yellow one most of all.
The Olive Branch. Such a strange offering, but seeing this made Anera calm down most of all.
As for my offering...let's say I did not get one back then.
The kingdom, though small, was truly a thriving land. Day in and day out, we helped protect the crops. Sorina helped teach the men on combat in arms. Anera taught how to funnel the rage they had, so they can think while fighting.
Hanalli danced and sang with the children. A song was made in her honor. I forgot the name but it went something like 'You are my sunshine...'.
While they did that, I watched our little shrine of worship. My very body was a horrid mess at the time. Only my appendages could be seen.
Everything was fine until that day happened...
"Are you insane Hanalli?! Did you not see what those creatures did to the ambassador!?"
"It can not be helped Anera. Humans do stupid things. They do anything to protect what they care for."
An ambassador from another kingdom brought word that the major empire of Japan wanted to extend a neutral contract for trades of their goods with theirs. The emperor of Yorokobi declined. It was then that the Ambassador pulled out a sword that was meant to be the peace offering, but was slain on the spot for suspicion of assault.
"Anera. You must understand. They feared he would attack the Emperor. It was a mistak-"
"THEY KILLED AN INNOCENT BEING! They could of just bound him first and THEN decide if they should kill him!"
The situation made Anera uneasy. It was only the beginning.
Time went on and Anera stopped accepting offerings from the people. They asked and prayed, wanting answers. Only Anera could hear them, but she ignored them. Her own trust in mortals were gone in a flash.
It made our work that much harder. They soon killed a dragon whom was only protecting their young as another way to please her. It caused Anera more rage...
"Nahumar! did you not see? They killed a mother dragon who was protecting her young! IN COLD BLOOD!"
"it is sad...but they wanted to make you happ-"
"NO! This is not right at all! We are more powerful than them! We should be controlling the mortals and force them back to their peaceful ways!"
"Anera! that is enough!"
"Shut up, Flare!"
"Don't talk to you sibiling like that!"
"Quiet, monster!"
It was there, her grip on good and bad fell off the railing...
Then it happened....Anera, our sister, decimated the entire kingdom. Leaving no woman or child behind. Anything related to the kingdom was gone. After splitting her power evenly, the rest of us decided it was best if we found our new home. Our journey was long and tiresome. Until we met a blonde woman with a parasol...
"Would you be interested in coming to a land where you can be free to continue your work without being forgotten?" Her words back then felt frightening to even myself. Such a powerful creature this woman with portals was. To this day, her name gives me a chill...
Yukari.
We had no choice. We accepted her offer. We were among the few who were first to breathe the air of what is now called Gensokyo. It was our home now.
