I'd always heard that IKEA was a place with cheap particle board furniture that looked cool but didn't last, a good place for dorm room items, but nothing else. I got around to going there for the first time about a year ago and it was not what I expected.
I like modern furniture and clever ways to use space. I was amazed at the ideas for saving space and all the different living rooms they set up. I like the examples of room setups for tiny spaces. (I guess I'm weird like that since my friends don't seem to enjoy the idea as much).
I've bought some small things I needed there and they were the same quality as other stores, but cheaper. It's not all high-end, but seems to be equal to most things I'd buy at any other large store, but with a nicer design.
What is your opinion of IKEA (if you've been)?

IKEA has been hit or miss for me. My first desk I got there was horrible and broke within a year. On the other hand, when I moved out for the first time my Mom and I road tripped to the nearest one (about 2 hours away), and got some furniture. My desk turned out pretty well, not as big as I'd like it to be and had to steal a set of drawers my Mom doesn't use but it works. My bed is wonderful, the drawers under it are totally plywood covered in wallpaper but the bed itself is sturdy and all items have survived several moves in more or less perfect condition but for a few bumps.
You just need to know how to look at stuff. They do sell some crap but if you know what to look for you can find some good lasting pieces.

I think they have all kinds of neat stuff! And so far I haven't had any problems with anything I bought there. A couch, two tables, a full-length mirror, various household items... they're all in good condition still 3nodding
I also think going to IKEA is the best way to figure out how to utilize small spaces.

I haven't bought any furniture, but the accessories I bought have also been good. They've all been nice so far, especially the glass bathroom set (glass bottles with metal lids for shampoo or soap, plus a glass cup and soap dish). I also got a rug recently that I really like.
I probably like the household stuff best.
@Ezri: I agree. I think when it comes to furniture, you just need to be aware of what's what. It could be particle board or wood, and the wood will likely last much longer. I've noticed they sell some things in wood, some things in pressed board or plastic.
