What kind of book or journal do you use to keep records? And what kind of ink or pen do you use?

I personally use an embossed leather journal currently. I go super old school with the writing utensils using a quill pen and india ink as well as a calligraphy brush for any illustrations.

I just use a plain lined Moleskine and a fine-tipped gel pen. smile

Ehh right now I just use this hardbound journal I found at a book store. As far as ink... just regular pens lol
I want to one day begin to use india ink and quill with a larger better journal but for now I think I good.

I'm a terribly disorganized person, so I don't have a formal notebook / book of shadows...just random spiral notebooks and papers with nonsensical scribbling in them to clear my thoughts. sweatdrop I write in either calligraphy markers or with a dip pen, using a writing system that I invented so no one can read it. I'd really love to have a nice, leather-bound, handwritten book of shadows down the road, but I'm so afraid I'd mess up that I don't even want to try. cry

I've got two books - one is all organized with a neat table of contents in the back and that is housed in a hardcover journal I picked up at the book store. The other one (don't laugh) is my French book. I'm in college, so I own the book and can do as I please to it. French is probably my hardest class I'm taking. This book is the French book I'm currently using and also the one I used last semester. I noticed that in that first half of the book I had prayers all scribbled in the margins - I think I wrote them before tests. I apparently was tracking moon phases in the back too and there was some other stuff more related to my path than to French. So now the French book is becoming an impromptu container for my spiritual things. I don't need it next semester, so I'm going to paint the pages white (leaving the prayer in the margins of course) and turn the French book into an artistic version of my other book.

As for what kind of pen I use - just a regular black pen that writes smoothly.

Although I've been getting into papermaking and book binding lately and at some point I would really like to make bind my own handmade book for this purpose and then I'll probably bust out my quill and ink well and use that. But for now it's a journal and a French book.

Love the Idea for the french book (Gesso should do the trick to keep the paper writable and paintable)

Well, If you start making handmade paper and hand binding the books with leather, I shall be one of your first customers!
