She was her father's shadow, if nothing else. Feather-Light Heart was almost always at the side of Weight of your Heart. Dad was strong, dad was amazing.

Dad was gone.

Today, somehow, Feather had managed to walk away from the black and gold buck, leaving her standing in an unfamiliar part of the swamp. She let out a faint call, afraid of calling too loudly and having some strange thing jump from the shadows at her. A faint mewl here, a slight whimper there.

WHAT WAS THAT? Feather jumped at the sounds of ... what was that anyways? The leaves of some low bushes rustled and she froze, staring, trying to keep her knees from trembling. Whimpering? No, she wasn't doing that at all. Nope. Nu-uh. It was some other terrified little filly using her voice.

This superheroing business was not all it was cut out to be. The morning's mission had seemed straightforward enough: a doe on a rock, menaced by a boar - a smallish boar, thankfully (and thankfully not another caiman, the last three of those hadn't gone well for him at all...). He'd even arrived at the scene in front of his sidekick (lit: brother, Everlong) this time. Who knew even a smallish boar could...well. Could pack such wicked tusks. And while he had been attracting the attention of the vicious beast (lit: running), his sidekick had escorted the doe off the rock and made her acquaintance. When the great hero had finally disposed of the threat (lit: lost it), Everlong had made it abundantly, if not unkindly, clear that his presence was no longer welcome.

Whatever.

He didn't need him. It wasn't as though there was any terror the mighty (lit: in-training) hero Linger could not handle himself anyway. No boar too ferocious, no crocodile too wild, no strange whimper too terrifyingly ghostly - no strange whimper too terrifyingly ghostly?! The mighty hero Linger leapt behind a bush as the strangled mewling finally filtered past his indigination into his fear.

B-but wait. N-no, there was no strange whimper too terrifyingly ghostly to s-stop the mighty Linger in his valiant path. W-what could a...g-ghost do to him, anyway? (Let's not think too hard about that, Linger...) The mighty Linger feared no ghost... The mighty Linger's teeth were just chattering because it was c-cold... Thus assured, the mighty Linger cautiously peered over the top of the bush to see...

...a filly.

She just didn't know what to do. Feather was lost, but she just couldn't admit it to herself. No. She totally wasn't lost. And that is why she absolutely wasn't crying. Nevermind that she was completely indifferent to the strange sounds of this strange part of the swamp.

The black filly plopped her rump down on a stone and looked up. Where did dad go? Or rather, where did she leave him? She was trying to think where her dad could be when she suddenly saw a pale cream and blue face staring at her. The filly's blue eyes widened to saucer size as she stared at this stranger, not knowing who he was. She tried to speak, but it came out as a startled squeak and then the child tried to make herself look tiny and uninteresting.

Linger wasn't sure what to do with a small doe-child. He had limited experience with children in his brief superheroing career to date, and even as a foal had never been very good with other foals. But as she squeaked and shrunk into herself, it seemed obvious she needed rescuing of some sort, and that was what superheroes were all about. And besides...it was beginning to dawn upon him that, in fact, children might be the ideal superhero rescuees. They were much smaller, thus much easier to snatch away from the jaws of peril, and much easier (at least, he hoped)
also to impress. Here was after all a damsel, in distress - just a pint-sized version of one. So he was going to rescue her.

"Hellooo," he cooed exaggeratedly, trying to sound as unthreatening as possible (which, considering he was about as threatening as a foxbun at the best of times, wasn't too difficult), "are you lost?"

Her tail flopped over her nose as Feather squeezed her eyes shut. She was trying very hard to look invisible...

Until he spoke to her.

Her blue eyes shot open and she stared at him for a moment, blinking slowly at the question before lifting her head some. "M... maybe..." She wasn't supposed to talk to strangers, right? And he looked pretty strange. He was so bright... and pale, and pink. After a quick glance around, she managed to squeak out. "Yes... I... I dunno where daddy is anymore." Her big doe-eyes were pleading with him to help.

A lost little filly looking for her daddy? That was definitely a damsel in distress - and a heroic assignment that sounded much more his speed than a rampaging boar. Flicking back his mane and drawing himself up to his full height, he flashed a smile that he hoped looked comforting and valiant at the same time.

"Aww, we can't have that, can we? Don't worry, we'll find him in no time," trotting over to her side, he nodded assurance, "where did you last see your daddy, do you know?"

The little girl had to think about that. She wasn't sure where exactly he was. She had no idea where she herself was, so there was really no way for her to-

Oh now that just made her head hurt.

"Daddy was away from the nest." Came the hesitant reply from the child. "I think he was bringing back food." She really didn't know why he had left. But he had said he'd be back soon. But he hadn't been back. "I wanted to find him... but I got lost." Could this male really help her find her father?

There was a nest - that should make the job even easier! Ideally, the worrying father would return often in hopes that his darling daughter had found her way back - and find her way back she would, with this soothing hero's help! Drunk on daydreams of an easy mission, he eased into a gentle canter, nodding at her to follow as he eyed about, generally keeping path with the soft indents on the ground that he assumed were her little hooftracks.

"Do you know where your nest is, dear? What does it look like? Are there any special trees or plants around it that we could recognise?"

And finally. XD I'm so very sorry for my black-hole collapse, but I'm finally back RPing! Thank you so much for bearing with me. <3
