*yawn* Extremely boring. Talking about its plot puts me in a yawn. I mean okay...it had a slightly interesting idea....
Group of students back in the 70's come up with this experiment to draw the paranormal into physical manifested form to record it on video so they can prove to the world that ghosts are real. Experiment goes horribly wrong (herp derp), extremely powerful ghost appears and ends the experiment.
Years later the experiment is reprised by one of the students and wouldn't cha' know, does it again and once again fails the experiment again. (This nuance isn't explained until later in the film).
A couple moves into a house to be caretakers for it, but the boy friend apparently was one of the students that was part of the experiments so naturally the ghost follows them and starts haunting them. So as you could imagine weird stuff goes on in the house.
To give the movie credit, the weird stuff going on actually does have a fairly minor level of disturb factor that is both predictable and surprising. For example (spoiler) the girl goes into the closet to get something and leaves. When she returns she finds that the middle portion of the clothes have been all knotted together and the wooden coat hangers spiraled in shape (spoiler end). So that leaves kind of a creepy feeling to it. And there are a few other nuances that were kind of unique and interesting, but nothing that would help raise the rating of the film.
The ending is one of those "you're f--ked" type of endings, which I honestly don't mind to say the least, but overall the movie was pretty basic, you're typical haunting story elements, and hardly any oomph to it. Left me extremely unsatisfied and very bored to the point I almost got up through most of the film and asked for a refund, but instead I decided to sit through it.
On a letter rating from A-F I give this movie a D. You guys seemed pretty positive and responsive to my other reviews I posted in the guild so I'll take that far enough to say that please trust me and don't waste your money. Hell don't even bother renting it. I promise you'll be bored.
On a second note....I herped derped myself into seeing this film. There is only one other point in my life where I saw some trailers to some films, and when the films actually came out, I went to go see one thinking it was the OTHER film I had interest in seeing or in other words, had mixed up the remembrance of what trailer belonged to what movie or the titles or whatever. To be more clear, when I was pretty young, the movies "The Craft" and "The Relic" were showing trailers at relatively the same time. At the time I had seen the trailer for "The Craft" and I told dad to take me to see it when it came to theathers. When the movie came out dad asked me again what movie I wanted to see but I couldn't remember the name of the title. So when he said "is it the movie The Relic?" I replied "Yeah, that sound about right," thinking he was talking about "The Craft". So in short we saw "The Relic" by accident which turned out to be a fantastic film, but "The Craft" was pretty stupid ironically.
That was yeeeeears ago. This time around I sorta made the same mistake. I was mixing up "The Apparition" with the movie "The Possession" (which has yet to come out). Only thing is this time around, I had never heard about "The Apparition" or seen the trailer so......yeah I had a blonde moment. I think from now on when I want to see a movie that has a title that starts with "The" I'm going to pay more attention XD I mean you have to sorta admit the titles are a bit similar >_>,,,,,don't judge me. XD
