Bored. Always bored. Life was never as interesting as it once was. Never as...well as life should very well be. The way he desired it. "Specta...Specta I'm completely and utterly at a lack for anything ...well... of intrigue. Entertain me Specta...please?"

Dicen was laid out upon a rather unusual rock tower, sunning himself after a few hours exploring about the clear spring in front of him. It had been interesting at first. The way the rocks were balanced. The sweet taste of the water. The completely out of place shrubberies. The odd fish. Well not so odd anymore. More ugly with large bulging eyes he supposed. It was just...so dull now. "Speeeecta."

The foxlet tilted her head at the hart and tickled his legs with her tail. Ears twitching a bit, she curled up next to him in a him. If he wanted entertainment he could get it himself. He was a big boy.

Fay was a hard worker, a female who had never been handed anything on a silver platter and found fighting as essential as breathing. Her body was scarred but the deepest wounds were in her heart where loneliness and distrust combined to make her snappish. It was Dicen's misfortune that Fay was in the area looking for good wood instead of her usual beach wanderings. The raft was her goal, but she'd used up most of the driftwood and was looking for a good source.

She blinked at the sound of a voice and tilted her head blinking at the sudden riot of white and pink. My what a colorful male, too bad he was whining. She gave him an arched brow before moving to give one of the trees a hard kick. Hmmm no probably not bouyant enough.

Sighing gently, Dicen closed his eyes and soaked up a few more peaceful rays...that is until there was a rather horrid and load sound that sounded very much like a thud. Why on earth would there be a thud. He was trying to think of something to do...and thuds...well they simply weren't on his list of conducive sounds to thinking peacefully.

"Specta...Specta what was that...tell them to stop..." He opened one eye lazily to look at his companion only to notice her sound asleep. Well that was completely unhelpful. "Oh very well..."

With another sigh, Dicen pulled himself up to a sitting position on the rock, his neck arched and mane falling about him like a waterfall of blossoms. His movements were graceful...but...lazy all at the same time. Throwing on a smile, he looked down at the female, "My dear lady, I do believe you might owe that tree an apology...to abuse nature in such a way...really."

Fay blinked and eyed the male a bit surprised that he had bothered to stand and speak. He had the look of someone used to smiling and lounging maybe he was a member of court? His smile was...humph she'd seen better smiles. Her eyes narrowed on him and she moved closer her tail flicking in annoyance.

"Oh really? Do I look silly enough to apologize to trees and other non speaking objects? Do you apologize to the trees when you sharpen your antlers?" She paused and her gaze flicked to the top of his head.

"Or would you if you had any? No, and the tree is unharmed it'll continue to grow."

She huffed and then frowned mildly, hmmm she'd done it again snapped at a poor innocent bystander just because she was in a foul mood. Not having a Captain with a jovial attitude to keep her pragmatic cruelty in check was really turning her into a shrew.

"Sorry, I ought not have snapped at you...but I'm looking for something specific and it's quite trying."

Specta cracked an eye open as she couldn't help but be woken by the loud mouths around her. Yawning a bit more, She curled up into a tighter ball and covered her head with her tail. He could deal with this problem by himself, and if he was bored at least it should give him something to do.

"Oh yes Specta, don't mind the lady so fair that she would kick you without apology," Muttering to her, Dicen looked back down at the hind as she huffed and then tried to produce what seemed to be an apology. At least to him. Well that could suffice, for now. Only then she spoke of a quest for something...perhaps something interesting?

"A Quest?" Ears perking, his eyes seemed to fill with life for the first time in a while. His smile genuine and filled with honey. "What is it that you seek, if you don't mind my prying?"

She was reminded of a yearling looking for a way to turn even mundane tasks into games. For a moment she recalled the way she used to indulge her captain with good humor. Perhaps she ought to strive to be patient and indulgent again, but this buck looked to have been over indulged. She rolled her eyes and glanced at the pretty foxlet, luckily her mimicking mion was keeping quiet. Her gaze turned back to Dicen and she gave a wry smile.

"I don't kick harmless foxlets, unless they deserve it."

She was mildly surprised again when he showed interest in her search, maybe he could be of some use.

"I suppose I don't mind. I seek a tree with strong supple branches made of wood that floats on the water, but only the most bouyant will do."

Dicen ignored the comment about Specta, it wasn't as important as something to do and she was asleep after all. "Ah a boat...then you would want numerous woods then. They are made with several different types are they not?"

Moving with a subtle grace, he leaped down from the tower of rocks and moved to circle the trees. "Oak....Oak and Cedar. Oak for the planks and Cedar for the planking. We should be able to find those. That is if you don't want special luxuries...though I prefer simplicity in something functional." His mind was humming, working once more. There was knowledge but never a time in which to use it.

Fay was again surprised by his perceptiveness, it seemed she would have to stop thinking so snarkily of others. His knowledge of such things intrigued her and she slowly allowed a smile to form as her eyes moved over him again. He was like the coastal waters sometimes far deeper than they appeared.

"Hmm indeed, but I haven't crew for a full vessel so my ambition is not to make a boat entire. I'm looking to make a simple raft, enough for me and my provisions, hence why the buoyancy is so important. I won't have the luxury of being safely ensconced and need something that'll stay afloat even in rough weather. "

She wished things were different, she'd love a herd sized crew, the labor of putting hoof to wood and forming a true vessel. To have a true captain again to head such a ship...but those days had passed it seemed and if she wanted her life back she had to go home and find it.

"So simple and functional then. Do follow me...Specta!" Dicen wandered off to the deeper and older...much older part of the forest. History, these tree's held history and were there for quite durable. Anything full of memories had to be durable. It was the fragile that never had a history. Never built memories...and therefore must be less durable.

"Now these...the oak. They should make you a frame of lady. Do get to cutting one down.." Giving her a smile, he moved to a pile a foliage and laid himself down to watch and give advice.

Fay rolled her eyes and followed the male mostly out of curiosity. He led her into the forest and she huffed a bit disliking the way the rich earthy scent overpowered the scent of sea salt that clung to her fur. Still, there were some rather lovely and large trees about and Fay looked at the oak impressed.

Of course there was a problem, they were huge, and the branches looked very sturdy. "Hmm...this whole tree isn't coming down, and the branches are high...it won't do."

Except that the wood was perfect, plentiful, and strong. She gave the trunk of one of the mighty oak a firm kick and...nothing, the branches didn't even quiver. She circled about looking for the smallest of the mighty oak trees and noticed one did have lower branches.

"Hmm..."

Dicen was already running potential build plans through his mind. Shapes and materials flowing about as he tried to make them solid enough to seem like a real, true vessel. Well raft. A raft was a vessel of some sort. They'd need something to chrisen it.

"Specta... Specta dear?" The foxlet had pulled itself from its nap to follow them and not at all amused that he simply gt up and wandered off without her. Eyes and face holding a rather grumpy attitude, she flicked her tail about and glowered at him as if to say What?!

"Now now Specta, we mustn't be cross in front of company...We need berries and juice for christening. Would you fetch some?" Smiling brilliantly at her, the foxlet debated batting at him with her nails at the ready...but kept her fit to herself. It was for the lady...not him...she'd do it for her. Wandering off, Dicen waved farewell to her with his tail and then turned to the lady, his mood wavering as she simply stood there. Well that wasn't quest like...and it was boring.

"Well of course it wont be felled...I showed you the trees, there should be a felled oak from the storm the other night. Really dear lady..."

PostPosted: Thu Sep 13, 2012 11:17 am

"Christening? Aren't you getting a bit ahead? I can hardly christen something that isn't even built yet. I'll need tie the frame with vines, find some sap, seal it, use sand to smooth and shape the wood, give it some more sap coats, bind it with twines vines, set up the rigging, weave some grass mats and gather supplies...and then I can christen it..." Fay sounded a bit discouraged at the end of the long list, so much work, but it would be well worth it when the spray of salt water surrounded her again. She couldn't wait to see the gleaming coast of her old home, it had been so long since she'd first set sail. Her parents had called it insanity, but her guardian had given such a whoop of joy that Fay knew in her heart she wouldn't perish in the waters.

"A felled...well why didn't you say so?" She looked at the male trying to figure out if he was toying with her or if he genuinely expected others to read his mind. She stamped through the trees looking for the fallen tree and her eyes went wide when she found it.

Impressive, huge, she was surprised any storm could bring it down, but then she examined the place where the wood had splintered and noticed a bit of rot. Well that would do the trick nicely, and as long as she didn't take any of the rotted wood she ought to be fine. She set about snapping off thick branches with her hooves. For a moment she paused and glanced back at Dicen curious if he would assist.

Dicen let his body fall into a comfortable lounging pose as he listened to her listing off all of the subsequent steps in a rather unnecessary manner. Was she trying to break her own morale? That was just silly. "Its always positive think towards the result is it not?" The hart then tilted his head with a slight confused expression, "Odds state that with a storm surely comes felled trees. The oldest are tallest and there for more prone to tottering over. Simple really." He ignored the side glances as the work began, he'd tried manual labor...it wasn't his thing. Repetitive...boring. Not to mention he made it a habit to try and limit any sweat breaking activities.

Simple, obviously, how did he sound so confident and bored at the same time? She studied the angle of another branch and brought her hooves down on it snapping it off and slowly gathering up a small pile. He really was just going to watch her it seemed, but ah well it wasn't his raft after all so why should he help?

"Yes the result...I'll be glad to be away from here." She paused and huffed a bit glancing at what wood she had and deciding she'd still need a bit more.

"Is there a spring near by?" Fay was used to thirst, but not while working herself so hard. She slammed her hooves down again on a thick branch, but this one didn't want to come off so easily. She slammed it again and then paused to lean against the felled tree for a moment and rest her limbs.

She was rather impressive with the physical...manual labor stuff. It was never for himself...but still it could be intriguing to watch the pure strength of others. Only if it was for their own means however. He expected nothing less if it were something they were doing for him.

"Ah...yes...to be away. I often mull over the possibility, and yet I remain." His task....it would be accomplished so much easier if he left. If he he could just leave all this behind...the memories. It was hard experiencing everything there was to life here...without great travel. The things he found now were truly gems...but not good enough. She needed more. He sighed gently and forced himself to rise.

"You do seem to be in need of refreshment, shall I lead the way to the spring?" Once again, he moved before her answer. He was leading the way whether she was ready or not.
