Do people have plans for their plot already?
PostPosted: Sun Sep 16, 2012 9:21 am

Wow, a post! surprised

I'm working mine out on some index cards. Just rough stuff. And the same story from last year, since I didn't even get halfway through it.

I've got a synopsis, and a working title.

I'm having a hard time deciding what I want to write about- I was going to do a modern post-apocalyptic version of An Afterword to the Records on Metal and Stone, but now I'm not so sure.

Right now, I'm trying to clear out old projects. Actually, that's what I'm planning on doing for NaNo too. I have a number of half-finished fanfics which have either been distracting to me or have vocal fans who want me to finish them. But that means I need to get ahead on currently updating fanfics, double-check my plans and plots so that I can pick up on each project quickly, and figure out which ones really need working on. Oh, and finish off two shorts before November.

But if I manage to get even just one of those fanfics done, that's more out of my head so that I can focus on my original works.

I've started to toy around with some ideas for mine. I'm either going to write the second half of last years novel or write something in a completely different genre to get myself out of my writing comfort zone to push myself further.

I'm hoping to do some revisions to my first half of last year's and finish it in this years. But I do have another option too. BUt I really want to finish the first one. So...yeah. Btu sooo many ideas. And I have to get a few fanfic chaps ahead so I"m not scrambling.

Ooh, yay! I'm glad I wasn't the only one thinking about this! xd

I'm going to be redoing a novel I've been tinkering with. My first novel should be done by then (though I've been saying this for years crying ). I'll also redo this guild and make it more relevant for people's needs and such.

Yay, our captain's alive, too! emotion_kirakira

I hope it's not too off-topic to say so here, but I'm so happy to see people posting here again. So sad to see dead writing guilds! :(

Yeah. Sorry about that! I've been busy with my novel for the better part of the whole year (seriously, restructuring the ENTIRE thing within the last 6 months. Not fun. @_________@). Now I'm rereading it again and it looks better, but there's still more stuff to be done. crying

But, yeah, expect different subforums and such (like, completely redone). And hopefully I can be a little more centered on how one should go about editing (though I'll admit I'm not an expert). I may give credit to books and such (maybe I'll rent a grammar book, too?) I think writing guilds should give some kind of guide that other writers can use so that, even if no one is posting, the guild can still be useful.

I also think it helpful to post things like flash fiction contests that others can be involved in. I may hold something like that here (like, let's say, 250 words). So, yeah, a bunch of ideas.

It's not all on you! Takes two to tango and all that. 3nodding

I can recommend some books and stuff if you're looking for resources. I'm looking forward to the new stuff though!

Also, it's pretty awesome that you have enough of a book done to be looking at the integrity of its overall structure. I'm still at the point where that seems like an impossible dream. xd

Yeeeah, I realized later on that novel writing is more of a marathon than a sprint. xd I can't tell you how many times I've given up on the novel but I keep dragging myself back to it.

It's going to look bad for a while. Mine did until I found what my writing style is and I've been doing pretty well with it. 3nodding It takes a looong time.

I already have a few ideas here and there. The main forum will be for users hanging out while the subforums will be helpful tips and such. Things like how to format your manuscript, grammar, how to land an agent, critiquing your work. Things like that. 3nodding Excitement!

Hey Sevi! If you need any help with the guild just flick me a PM or poke me in the staff forum. Was going to PM you the other day about the guild but then family came to visit and my Gaia time has been close to nonexistent.

I have the same thing, way too many ideas, not enough time to write them in. But I do really want to finish last years project, which was actually a rewrite of a novel I started way back in university but was in extremely rough shape. But I know if I don't give some of my other ideas a bit of attention now and then I risk losing them even though I do have them jotted down.
Oh yeah, don't want to fall behind on your fanfic. I'm scrambling to do as much reading this month and next as possible so I have a bunch of reviews to post on my blog during the month of November so I can spend my time novel writing not reading and writing up reviews.

Yeah, well I've been wanting to work on this one AWFULLY bad to finish it but then there's this other sprining up in my mind. But I think I'm going to finish the one since I wanted to finish it last year but I hadn't been able to.

My main character needed to be...fixed some and some scenes added. Then I wanted to do a brief go-over to see what needed to be added in scnes to seem it togeyhert nd at the end. Then do revisions.

Yeah, I've been way behind recently from all these allergic reactions and then my computer is in the shop and I had pre-written stuff....so I was like I can rewrite it or...I can wait and see if its' still on teh computer. I get it back today. It's supposed to still be there. So that will lessen the load some.

Problem is I also head up a fanfic collab which I've been behind on for the medical reasons. So I have to keep up with that too.j

I have one I started in highschool that I'm going to start revising soon. It was began and I had some friends put some input into it. However, now I'm going to completely eradicate their influence because it's not what it needs/what it needs to be. I need to make it back my own which should be pretty simple really. Since was mainly character quirks they offered up.

But I have to retype the whole thing, THEN I have to edit it because I only have ahard copy because of a computer and flsh drive crash. So over 100 pages of typing straight. Plus at least 50 or so assorted scenes. Plus probably 100 pages of character profiles etc to go through and sort.

Plus ALOT has and is going to change. So it's going to take FOREVER.

Sot hat's waiting till December or next year where I can lay out the pages in my spare room where wer'e gong to fix up with a table so I dont' have to put them up allt he time. I can just continue where I left off.

Plus there is going to be So much revision. I was 16/17 when I began piddling with it. My style has changed and so have my ideas--which is why even though it sounds horrid I'm eradicating any influence my friends had on it. Because it's not true to the story anymore, plus some of them aren't in my life anymore. And the characters are ghosts of what they should be--too perfect or too typical. I need to mess them up, flaw them, rename them--give them reasons instead of being cardboard cut outs.

But if i don't change those characters then there is no way to continue the story. There may be shallow shallows or even a name that escapes eradication, but that's about it.

I know the feeling. crying I meant to have my current novel done before Suwrimos, but that didn't happen, so I spent more time editing and rewriting over the summer. Then it was supposed to be done by September, but I suddenly decided on rewriting another section, and now I can't even decide if I've made it better or worse. *dies*

My original plan was to finish that novel and write its sequel over suwrimos. Then I planned to jump genres and write a magic realism story for Nano. I was so looking forward to that, but I'll never have all the plot details worked out in time...

So my new plan is to work on a story collection set in the same universe as the novel. (Yes. Nano Rebels, here I come.) Less plotting, more ability to jump around. I'm hoping that'll work out.
