Favorite Books(other than HDM of course...)

By Lloyd Alexander-The Prydain Chronicles, The Iron Ring, The Boy and the Gorgon, The Arkadians
He is easily my favorite author of all time 3nodding

By Susan Cooper - The Dark is Rising Sequence, The King of Shadows, The Bogart
My second favorite author, not nearly as prolific as Mr. Alexander, which is a shame

By Garth Nix - The Abhorsen Series, The Seventh Tower Series, The Keys to the Kingdom, The Ragwitch
I really love Nix's style, and he has some really great ideas for stories.

By John Steinbeck - East of Eden
A classic. It is really long, but I highly recommend it to anyone willing to try it. It is about an early 20th century family in Southern California who lives a retelling of the Biblical stories of the fall from paradise and Cain and Abel.

By Nancy Springer - I am Mordred
This is probably my favorite book of all time. It is about the b*****d son of King Arthur, and the hell of his childhood and life. So very great, I highly recommend it.

By Jude Watson - The Jedi Apprentice Series
Now, I am not normally a Star Wars fan, but these books are great even if you aren't. They are just a great tale of coming of age, as Obi-Wan and his Master Qui-Gon have extremely interesting and varied adventures with really great minor characters. A very fun read.

By Anthony Horowitz - The Alex Rider Adventures
These aren't done yet, but so far they are about a teenage 007. Alex Rider is a 15 year old London school boy recruited by the M-14 after his uncle is killed on a mission (his uncle was a spy too). Great old fashioned suspense and some really awful bad guys.

By Brian Jacques - The Redwall Series, The Castaways of the Flying Dutchman
Yep yep, I am a Redwall fan. The Redwall books are all kinda the same, but regardless, once you become hooked, it becomes a great pleasure to relive the stories over and over. The Castaways so far only has two volumes, but they are both very good, almost gentle stories of good triumphing over evil.

By D.J MacHale - The Pendragon Series
These are great fantasy books, but unfortunatly I think there aren't gonna be anymore published because it simply wasn't popular enough, which is a great shame.

By Meg Cabot - The Princess Diaries
So fun and funny. I am not normally a realistic fiction fan, but this author is so great capturing the way a teenage girl really thinks. Well worth a read (and absolutely nothing like movie)

By George Orwell - Animal Farm, 1984
These are really good books because they allow you not only to see the extremes of communism addressed but to also access the mind of a highly unique, and in some ways, troubled individual. Classics I really like.

Favorite Manga
Pretty much anything by Clamp, but especially X, Cardcaptor Sakura, Wish, and Clamp School Detectives.
I also dabbled in Inuyasha and I am starting to get into Pilot Candidate and DNAngel. 3nodding

I am a huge Neil Gaiman fan. I love all his work. Especially Neverwhere. (Croup and Vandemar RULE.)

I also love the Discworld series by Terry Pratchett. *hugs her Discworld books*

Um, the Jeeves and Wooster series by P.G. Wodehouse. Yes, they're old. But they are so. Damn. Funny.

I liked Wind Singer and Gossip Girl too! I only read the first 2 GG books, and that was a while a go. I reread Wind Singer though... Um... just about 2 weeks ago.

His Dark Material Series - Philip Pullman
My Favorite book series of all time, to many reasons and Quotes to say why.

Clockwork, Spring heeled Jack, and Lyra's Oxford - short stories by Philip Pullman
I just am biased for anything Pullman- plus they are good.
“It was none other than Prince Otto himself, stark dead, as cold as ice, with his eyes wide and staring ahead of him, his left hand gripping the reins so tight they had to be cut loose, and (this was the strangest part) his right hand still moving, lashing the whip up and down, up and down, up and down.” - Clockwork

Phantom of the Opera - Gaston Leroux
My Favorite stand alone book. I love the writing style, the characters. The Phantom himself is one of the greatest characters ever envisioned.
“He spoke, but I had now no other wish than to know what I already called the trick of the siren. He satisfied my curiosity, for Erik, who is a real monster--I have seen him at work in Persia, alas--is also, in certain respects, a regular child, vain and self-conceited, and there is nothing he loves so much, after astonishing people, as to prove all the really miraculous ingenuity of his mind.”

1984 - George Orwell
If you have not read it, just do.
“I enjoy talking to you. Your mind appeals to me. It resembles my own, except you happen to be insane.”

Alice in Wonderland - Lewis Caroll
My Favorite books pre HDM, and still are very special to me. Very smart and funny.
“In that direction,” the Cat said, waving its right paw round, “lives a Hatter: and in that direction,” waving the other paw, “lives a March Hare. Visit either you like: they're both mad.”
“But I don't want to go among mad people,” Alice remarked.
“Oh, you can't help that,” said the Cat: “we're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad.”
“How do you know I'm mad?” said Alice.
“You must be,” said the Cat, “or you wouldn't have come here.”

Auntie Mame - Patrick Dennis
A very funny book that has a lot of heart. I haven’t run into a lot of people who have read it that are my age- because the book is older and not considered a classic although it does have a fan base.
“By the way, child,” She said. Once more her eyes had that penetrating look.
“Yes, Auntie Mame?”
“Did your father ever say anything- that is, tell you anything- about me before he died?”
Norah had told me that all liars went straight to hell, so I gulped and blurted out, “He only said that you were a very peculiar woman and to be left in your hands was a fate he wouldn’t wish a dog but beggars can’t be choosers and you’re my only living relative.”
There was a quiet gasp. “That b*****d,” she said evenly.
I reached for my vocabulary pad.
“That word, dear, was b*****d,” she said sweetly. “It’s spelled b-a-s—t-a-r-d, and it means your late father.”

Les Miserables - Victor Hugo
A wonderfully and skillfully written book about the struggles of a low class people and their interactions and unknown connections with each other. It may have 360 chapters, but it’s well worth the read.
"Humanity is identity. All men are made of the same clay. There is no difference, here below, at least, in predestination. The same shadow in front, the same flesh in the present, the same ashes afterwards. But ignorance, mingled with the human paste, blackens it. This incurable blackness takes possession of the interior of a man and is there converted into evil."

Lord of the Flies - William Golding
Like 1984, it’s a must read.
“We’ll take you off. How many of you are there?”
Ralph shook his head. The officer looked past him to the group of painted boys.
“Who’s boss here?”
“I am,” said Ralph loudly.

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy - Douglas Adams
The Funniest books I’ve ever read, laugh out loud funny. But I’m strange and the humor appeals to me.
“And wow! Hey! What's this thing coming towards me very fast? Very
very fast. So big and flat and round, it needs a big wide sounding
word like... ow... ound... round... ground! That's it! That's a
good name - ground! I wonder if it will be friends with me?” (Thoughts by a Very Surprised Sperm Whale)

The Last Unicorn – Peter S. Beagle
Over looked but on par with Lord of the Rings and The Chronicles of Narnia.
“You man come and go as you please,” Said King Haggard to the Lady Amalthea. “It may have been foolish of me to admit you, but I am not so foolish as to forbid you this door or that. My secrets guard themselves- will yours do the same?”

At the Back of the North Wind - George MacDonald
A slightly strange story that is like the last Unicorn in the sense that it too is over looked but is just as good as Alice in Wonderland and Peter Pan.
“What is your name little boy?”
“Diamond,” answered Diamond, under the bed-clothes.
“What a funny name!”
“It’s a very nice name,” returned it owner.
“I don’t know that,” said the voice
“Well, I do,” retorted Diamond, a little rudely.
“Do you know whom you are speaking?”
“No,” said Diamond.
And indeed he did not. For to know a person’s name is not always to know the person’s self.

I have a lot more, but that’s more then enough for now. whee

I Don't really know who my favorite author is but here's some:

Phillip Pullman: HDM series
For obvious reasons lol otherwise I wouldn't be here

J.K. Rowling: The Prisoner of Azkaban
This one is my favorite so far, I REALLY didn't like the 5th one..I want to sue her for it lol.

Garth Nix: Sabriel, Lirael, Abhorsen
These books rock. It's got humor, love, adventure, danger...it's just great. Hahaha sweatdrop

Anne Rice: The Vampire Chronicals series
I love the way she writes. It's very detailed and gets you hooked when you read them. They're about vampires and everything.

Louise Rennison: Angus, Thongs, And Full Frontal Snogging series
So far there are 5 I believe and they're hilarious. I suggest reading them. They're set up like a diary. The main character's name is Georgia and her problems with life are so funny. She likes a guy so she stalks him....she starts liking other people....it's just life and it's awesome.

Ann Brashares: The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, The Second Summer of the Sisterhood
These books are great. It's about a group of friends and they find a pair of pants and every 2 weeks or so each person wears them to something important and they write things on them. The pants are very important and they have a creed and everything. It's just about life and I thought that they were nicely written and good books.

Various Authors: The Royal Diaries
I have a thing for the past, especially medieval times so some of these really appeal to me. It just takes a famous person from time and makes it into a diary of that person going into details about days they had and everything. In the back of the books are pictures and information that is real about the person. If you're a history buff like me I think you might like these.

That's all for now! smile
