EDIT: NEW RULE! I have decided that to up the stakes characters are in fact able to die! This will not affect their life in the main timeline, but you will want to keep some caution with characters that could drown or might be in any way endangered. Just don't overdo it and end up blowing up the entire beach you guys.

There, far off in the water, a white-haired boy was happily, lazily floating. This had to be, hands-down, one of the better vacations he had been on. It wasn't some lame museum trip, it was the beach - god bless Brody's family.
Ialo craned his neck and squinted back at the shore at all the girls in tiny, fashionable swimsuits. Yes, definitely, bless Brody's family. The females were out in full force, and he was pleased.
With a deep breath, he pushed himself underwater and stayed there for several seconds before coming back up. The beach was hands down, his favorite place in the world. The massive sprawl of clear sky and blue ocean left him feeling free and untethered. Later, when there weren't so many people out, he would stretch his wings.

A safe distance from the gently lapping waves of the ocean, Danni laid flat on her back on the sand, catching a quick nap while Ialo swam. She and large bodies of water did not get along, so she usually left the splashing and diving to him. She preferred land, and the feeling of something solid under her feet.
At the moment, with slick black sunglasses combating the bright rays of the god-forsaken sun, Danni was completely buried in the sand up to her neck. There was an elaborate sand castle built on top of her and around her, a little project Brody and a few of the drama kids had undertaken. Since being buried actually made her much cooler, and hid her pale skin from the sun, she didn't mind.
The only reason she was here instead of at work or in the Realms was quite simple: Brody had begged. It would be fun, he'd said. It would be fantastic. It would be free. It would be away from the corn fields. That last one had sold her. So here she was, snoring in the sand. The last thing she'd seen before dozing off had been Brody, prancing about in a neon green speedo, doing a series of impressive cartwheels along the shore. It had left her amused enough that she'd fallen asleep smiling.

x x x x x x Brody Warfield was in his element. Strutting his stuff in his new favorite speedo -a nice neon green with a bright yellow star on the back- he executed a series of spirited cartwheels over the sand, the tips of his spiked green hair brushing the ground. He laughed at himself, stopping his cartwheels to stare for a moment as Ialo floated in the ocean several feet away.
With a satisfied, appreciative smile sliding onto his face, Brody tipped his sunglasses up for a better view, watched as Ialo dove underwater, watched him come up again a few seconds later.
He'd known his dragon would like it here. The boy was made for water. And they'd all deserved a bit of fun and frolic. Which was why he'd put in a call to his parents and suggested that perhaps a privately funded school trip might be in order for a little R and R. His mother had gleefully dashed her name across a check, and his father had resigned himself enough to smile as he'd passed the check to Mr. White.
And now, here they were. And it was wonderful. Everywhere he looked, students and teachers swam, ran about, built sandcastles. There was Mac and some of the other drama kids racing to an inflatable raft someone had put out in the water. He could hear their laughter and insults as they swam towards the goal. Lord knew what they'd do when they actually reached it. Brody thought that, depending on what it was, he might swim out there himself. But for now he merely stood on the sand, posing automatically as he looked around as though he were a king surveying his kingdom.

Rays of sun danced on her fair skin. It was comforting to have the sun bathe her. Stretching her wings out, she sat on the cool beach sand. Her toes dug into the sand. So this was what it was like to feel the sand between toes. She was enjoying it. The texture of the sand felt nice; even when she had ran her hand along it a few times. Carving out a few letters in the sand, there was no significant meaning to which the order came out. It was all just jibberish. Her pure white wings flapped once more. It had been a long time since she was able to do this. The last time was when she was nearly mauled by a glorious dragon, but those details would be left behind.
A bikini -- this was the first time the girl wore anything so revealing, then again she didn't understand why girls liked to wear this at the beach when it was just about the same thing they wore under their normal clothes. If Yuna understood, she would have been a little embarrassed, more or less. The scar on her stomach was hard to see from miles to a few feet away. It had healed perfectly fine, but there was still a line that had the shape of a lightning bolt. Someone had to be looking very carefully -- of course though Yuna also forgot that it was even there.
As always, her hands were clothed with white gloves. Could never be too safe around here. Digging her hands into the sand, she watched the water push up to the shore. Blinking, she just sat there in the sun and watched like she was being hypnotized. After she had came back down to Earth, she dug her white fingers into the sand then started to make a shape. There was others around her, but she faulted to pay attention to them as they did her. Somehow she was used to it. A rectangle started to form up as she messed around with the sand. Her hand slid along some of the wet sand where the water used to hit. A the rectangle now made a more 3D shape, no one would probably know what she was making.

Hesitantly, Petra stuck one of her fingertips out from under the cover of her black parasol. As she did not burn she let out her whole finger, then her hand. Then she dropped the parasol down entirely and stared, blinkingly, out into her sandy surroundings.
“Thank you, Gerry. The wards you’ve put up seem to have proven safe,” she said, granting her teacher a smile. He did not return it, but nevertheless stood proudly.
“I told you,” he said, “I was sure to test these barriers. I will also be sure to reapply them come sun up each day we are here. Just to be certain.” In a rush of joy, Petra threw her arms around Gerwald.
“Thank you!” she squealed. “Now, I say we must make the best of this week. Promise me you won’t simply hide away in your books?” Gerwald sighed. This girl was determined to make sure he would actually socialize. There was reason within her insistence; he might otherwise lose the entire week to books. Not that he would mind, but he could do that anytime back at school. This opportunity was not to be wasted.
“I will… make an attempt,” Gerwald agreed. This was enough to please her, as she set off running to join Naomi within seconds of him having spoken. He sighed again, staring down at his clothing. So informal. They had to wear a bathing suit of some kind in case of any danger in the form of magic students having too much fun. He had chosen a full body suit, but still he felt… exposed in some way. The way the aerodynamic suit hugged his body was uncomfortable and, while he was covered, accentuated parts of him embarrassingly. This was going to be a long week.

Fumi was in the water already, happily splashing in her kappa form. She wore a swimcap over her head and a small, kappa-sized bathing suit. She raced through the water, leaving a trail of white foamy splashes in her wake. She was already out pretty deep, determined to make fish friends while she was there. Fumi only slowed as she started to pass by a white-haired boy, impressed by how far in the water he had swam.
“HEY!” she shouted, though she was close enough that shouting was beyond unnecessary. “It’s nice to see a fellow swimmer way out here! You’re Ialo, aren’t you?” Cat paws stretched out under the sun. Warmth was such a wonderful feeling! Water was not. It was a thing Toshi would avoid with great purpose for the remainder of the week, but still he was glad he came. Everyone looked so wonderful in their swimsuits, basking in the rays of the sun. Yet, Toshi felt comfortable as a little fur ball.
He trotted around, watching the thespian kids playing with delight as they buried Danni. Ialo was far out in the water, too far to talk to. Much to his surprise, he did see one person sitting alone, tracing her fingers through the sand. If Toshi’s face weren’t covered in fur it would have turned red at the sight of Yuna. He’d expected her to come in a cute little one piece, or maybe just regular clothing. Yet, there she sat in the cutest little bikini he’d ever seen! It was a crime against nature that she was sitting by herself!
Taking his time, he worked his way over to where she sat before plopping down next to her. He meowed loudly in greeting, tails swirling happily in the clear air.

Her rectangle came out nearly perfect. It took a little bit of estimating and calculating to come out with straight angles, especially since the sand didn't seem to want to cooperate very well. That was one down! Now she just had to put another rectangle on top of that one. It was going to take some time, she could tell.
Yuna wasn't very quick with people being around her so she was taken off guard when she heard a loud meow. Goosebumps gathered on her skin as she hauled up in fright. Yeah, she wasn't very graceful for an angel. Her wings outstretched like she was ready to fly far away. Before she could turn to see who she assumed was Toshi, she fell forward into the sand. It was embarrassing but she was actually smiling. She then rolled onto her back.
Her head turned to look at her haunter. It was Toshi alright. Stealthy as a cat! Oh, hey, she was getting better at those, wasn't she? "Hey, Toshi," She called through his head as she gave a quiet giggle. "You scared my soul away for a minute there." Yuna was grinning as she was laying on top of her sand...sculpture. She wasn't upset at all.
Still laying in the sand she head bent backwards to see the rushing water. Sitting up slowly, she propped herself on her elbows. "You don't like water do you?" She asked curiously. Cats didn't like water, from what she read about over the few weeks. Out of everyone she had met she wanted to know more about their race since it intrigued her. The only reason Yuna didn't like water so much was just because she couldn't swim very well. Still smiling she sat up more.

Giggling happily, the blonde angel boy went splashing through the water, not far from shore. Earth was such a miraculous place, with so many wondrous things--such as the ocean. Water was stretching out as far as his eyes could see, and he felt if he flew out there it would be a long time before he reached land again. He’d looked down upon Earth from Heaven before, but it was very different being on the surface. The ocean looked so much bigger than he could have imagined. And it was fun! Dressed in his two-piece bathing suit, the bottoms sporting a ruffly little skirt over them, he splashed into deeper water, springing back up as his wings spread in the form of glowing golden threads of light radiating like wisps of energy from his back.
”This is so magical!” Amei splashed back towards shore, laughing as he ran, wings sparkling behind him and leaving a faint trail of golden energy. ”I like this much better than going to classes, it is true!”
Storming the beach, he slowed to a stop, clasping his right wrist behind his back with his left hand, humming softly and looking around at all the students sprawled on the sand. He wanted to approach someone, but he wasn’t yet sure what to say. Biting his lip, he rocked on his heels for a moment... until he felt a pinch on his big toe. Green eyes flashed downwards to spot a crab whose claw was latched onto his toe as though it wished to do battle with his foot. Normally this crab would be far outmatched by a foe of this size... but against Amei...
”WAAH! WAAAHH!” Amei cried out, flailing around and kicking his foot. ”Let go of me you horrible monster, let go! Ooo! Ow, ow, ow! OW!”
With a strong kick, he managed to send the crab flying off into the air, nailing Brody right in the head. Amei, however, was completely unconcerned with where the crab went. As soon as it was gone, he fell onto his bottom in the sand and clasped his foot, tears in his eyes as he sniffled and rubbed his toe.
”How can it be that there are so many creepy crawling creatures who like to pinch in a place like this?” Looking at his toe, the redness of it made fresh tears spring to his eyes. ”Wahhh...! I did not do anything to him either.” He hiccuped, rubbing his eyes with another sniffle.

Toshi was momentarily distressed to hear he had “scared away Yuna’s soul” but assumed it must have been some sort of weird saying he’d never heard as she still seemed altogether there. Her wings flapped out in her surprise, and he chuckled a bit. Both of their more animalistic features gave away so much more of their emotion than with other people. Chock that up to one more thing he had in common with the angel.
He came up to her face as she fell back against the sand, rubbing his own little cat face against her more regular, human one in greeting. He felt a bit embarrassed that he’d frightened her. Then Yuna sat up, asking him if he didn’t like water. That question could only be answered with a resounding “YES.”
“Yeah, I’m not a big fan of it. Makes my fur stick to me uncomfortably. Even as a human I don’t like to get my hair or tails wet. But I’m loving this sun. Even with the UV blocking spells I can still feel it’s warmth and...” Toshi flopped down onto his belly. “…it makes me kinda sleepy.” He rolled over a bit, acting silly to get her to laugh. “What’s your opinion on water and swimming and such?”

His face had came close to hers, the warmth of his face was comforting. Something inside of her twitched, but only for an instant. She returned the greeting the same way and gave a mute chuckle. One would have observed that it was only a quick, sharp breath. Blinking, she listened to his first response.
"Yeah, I’m not a big fan of it. Makes my fur stick to me uncomfortably. Even as a human I don’t like to get my hair or tails wet. But I’m loving this sun. Even with the UV blocking spells I can still feel it’s warmth and..." It was unfortunate that he didn't like the water that much, but at least she understood. Sometimes her feathers stuck together and it was hard for her to fly occasionally.
Toshi had belly flopped onto the sand. It startled her again. Why had she been on edge lately? "…it makes me kinda sleepy." That's right, he was part cat after all. Yuna echoed a quiet giggle through his head as she brought her hand to her mouth. Smiling, she watched him slightly alter his body. "What’s your opinion on water and swimming and such?"
What was her opinion? Her face started to flush with embarrassment. "I uh...can't swim." Yuna's hand slipped behind her head as she ruffled some of her green locks. "It's too bad you don't like it that much, but that's okay." She still planned on getting in the water, but only to her knees though. Her hand -- all by itself -- moved to his head to scratch behind his left ear. She wanted to feel his fur with her own fingers, and even his hair, but she didn't think it was a good idea. Did he like his ears scratched. Yuna stared with amusement. Slowly she was starting to rethink that if it meant leaving the cat-boy by himself.
"Hm. How about heights?" Flying personally sounded like fun, even though she didn't like heights very much. The thought of it nearly excited her, but she tried to remember that he was still, and forever will be a cat. Her hand pulled back to her side as she rested against the sand now. Smiling she tilted her head to the side to wait for his reply eagerly.

x x x x x x Brody was in the process of stretching his arms up above his head and rolling his shoulders when the crab smacked him in the head. Even as he yelped in surprise, he was spinning on his heel, aiming a single look at the crab before dismissing it and focusing on whoever had thrown it. If they thought they could get away with harming his precious face, they had another thing...
His line of thought vanished when he saw the blonde angel collapsed on the ground, clutching his toe. It took him a moment to place the face, but it was hard not to know of the cross-dressing angel boy. Amy -no, Amei- that was his name.
Immediately righteous annoyance turned to concern, and he all but leaped over to Amei's side, crouching down beside him, running a hand over the boy's blonde hair.
"There now, darling boy. Did that nasty old crab hurt you?" If there was ever anything that distracted Brody from his own vanity, it was a woman's -or in this case, a cute little man's- tears. As a man, it was his duty to see that he stopped those tears. Preferably in a way that showed of his own manliness.

"Gccckkhtht-" Ialo accidentally inhaled saltwater and began to choke. Who the hell followed him all the way out here?! And who the hell was mad at him enough to be yelling at him this loudly, this early in the day?
His eyes watery and his nose stinging, Ialo stared at the little kappa girl. Oh. It was her.
"Ye - Yeah, it's me. Hey...." Her name... oh, right, right. "Fumi." There was a small twitch in his eye from his most recent addition to his list of near-death experiences. He slowly tread the water, staring at her. She was one of the loudest and most rambunctious students at Mystic Fountain, enough so to even overshadow Ialo and put him off a bit.
One of the reasons he was out this far? His tail was out, and he was using it underwater to help him swim faster.

Fumi stared as Ialo struggled to stay afloat in his surprise. Maybe he wasn't as good of a swimmer as she had thought. Still, it was at least good of him to have made it out this far. Fumi flipped onto her back, and literally started to swim circles around him. What animal was it that did this again?
"What are you doing?" Fumi asked. She spotted his tail as she circled around. Opening her duckbill wide she squeaked with surprise. "You have a tail! Normally you don't but now you do!" Toshi felt a bit guilty now. She didn't seem that happy about her inability to swim and it wasn't like he could really teach her. Even if he could find a way to stand the water, the most he could manage was a doggy paddle. Or rather, a kitty paddle.
However, he was torn from his thoughts as her hand came behind his ear to scratch lightly. Oh yes, this was heaven. Instinctively he pushed his head against her hand even more, signalling that she should continue to pet him. Toshi hoped to himself that he wouldn't start purring. How embarrassing that would be!"How about heights?" she asked. He considered it for a moment. He'd never really thought about heights. He'd climb things with his brothers all the time, trying to get to the highest point possible. The up was a lot of fun for all of them. The down was... tricky.
"I'm not opposed to heights," he decided. He really wasn't. It was just that heights seemed opposed to him. Toshi found it easier to simply concentrate on how great her scratching felt.
