It's the National Novel Writing Month (although it goes world-wide). The challenge is to write 50,000 words of a novel in one month, and it happens in November. It's tough for many, but the community makes it a lot of fun (I remember a discussion of what would happen if a skyscraper were to suddenly turn into gelatin). There aren't any prizes, just the satisfaction of getting things done. Here is the official site, so check there for more. I volunteer for the site, so I'd be happy to answer questions here too! biggrin

I actually don't think I could do NaNo without the site (the graphs are so helpful to me as far as understanding my progress goes). Even if you don't work on the coding end, that's really cool.

Actually I'm an ML for an Elsewhere region, so all my work is local. Organizing write-ins, getting more people interested, encouraging my people, and trying to get my local library involved (they'd be great as they have a number of small town branches, but they weren't interested last year). Still quite a bit for me to do, especially being an introvert in person.

I don't go to the write-ins (huge introvert myself), but I know they're important to a lot of people who wouldn't attempt NaNo at all without the local support. Well done.

It's my second year and thankfully I'm not the only ML for my region (we're really spread out and rural, so we do a lot of chatroom write-ins). But the site staff is amazing; it's great what they can do being non-profit and all. You probably don't see it, but they do a lot for us MLs too.
