The bedroom is your starting point. Luis will wake up be face flat on the floor. The bedroom has a bathroom within it near the bed, which will act as a secondary room.

There's a door with what seems to be a painted red '9' on it, along with a keycard device to the right side. It will not open for you.

And just as you think you're safe, you're gonna notice an even bigger problem. The ventilation shaft on the wall is now making a weird sound. As though it's blowing something in the room. Thinking it's fresh air, you move directly to the vent. But alas, a mechanism goes off right beside the vent. It begins to buzz. And the number on it begins to soar higher.

It's not fresh air. That's a carbon monoxide reader.

Realizing (eventually; or not) that the only exit is locked, you have to make a decision, and a decision NOW. Get out. Or you're going to die. As the numbers of the CO meter rises...

        Better get to work.

        The bedroom has:
-A chest with a keyhole on the other side of the bed. It will not open unless you find a key. Might be a good idea to open it.
-A dresser with a combination lock in the corner of the room, beside the door. There doesn't seem to be a combination nearby. Goes up from 0-39.
-Barred down windows on the opposite side of the door-wall, revealing the night sky. You can see you're on the second floor from here. Not getting out that way.
-Lamps on both sides of the bed. They are nice lamps.
-A letter on the table where the lamp is. It's addressed to 'Luis'. The only address seems to be the lone number '0' on it. It might be for the best to open this later. It seems to be a lot heavier than a normal letter though...wonder what's inside? Still. No time for this. LATER.
-Comfy chairs. Ahhhh...relaxing! Not the brightest idea to be relaxing now.
            -Carpets. They look expensive.
-A chandelier. Maybe you can swing on it like a monkey, and kick the door open? Hopefully, there's someone who will laugh at that...

        The bathroom has:
-A mirror with what looks like two backwards numbers, what looks like a 36, and a 3. Could this be the locker combination for the dresser in the other room? But...don't most combinations have three numbers?
-The toilet. Maybe you can crawl through sewage to get out. Still hoping on a partner, huh? Oh well. Nothing to see here.
-The toilet paper holder. There seems to be something in the hole of the paper roll. Maybe you should check it out?
-A shower. You don't necessarily smell. Sides, even turning faucets isn't doing anything. No water.
            -The ceiling lights. Bright.

              His nose hurt.

This was the first thought that crossed Luis's mind as he slowly regained consciousness, his body still heavy. As soon as he was keen enough to do so, he realized he was lying face-down on the floor. This was not a very comfortable position, and it made his nose ache terribly. With a deep inhale the man pushed himself up onto his hands and knees, and then up to his feet. He absently rubbed his sore nose as he glanced around, eyes squinted in confusion and suspicion. Wasting no time with wondering where he was or how he'd got there, his mind was working on taking in the surroundings. The barred windows, the rumbling vent, the all-too familiar sight of a carbon monoxide reader... Ah, carbon monoxide.

              Not good.

In a few long steps he moved to the door with the '9' on it, observing the keycard device beside the door as he attempted to pull the thing open. When that didn't work, he knocked as loud as he could and called out for someone––anyone––but there was no response.

Next he went to the window and tested out the strength of the bars. However hard he pulled, they would not budge even a millimeter, and the glass of the window looked anything but flimsy. His eyes traveled to one of the nearby chairs, and he pondered for a moment if throwing one at the window, or trying to break the glass with a chair leg, would do any good... Which is when he noticed the letter on a table, addressed to him. Silently he moved here and lifted the envelope, testing the strange weight in his hand, before tucking it away in the pocket of his jeans. There wasn't time to dawdle on the mystery, he had to get out before he...

The thought of him dying here caused his adrenaline to spike for the first time.

Despite his body's cries for panic, he kept calm and methodical as he scoured the room. There was a chest beside the bed, though a locked chest did not particular stand out to him. More interesting was the dresser with the combination lock, but what use was that without the code? Quickly he darted into the bathroom, only to freeze at the sight of a pair of numbers written backwards on the mirror: 36, and 3. Strange, but it could be pertinent information. Luis continued on, this time inspecting the toilet, which seemed to hold no real significance. It was as he was doing so that he got down to eye-level with the toilet paper holder. There was something in there...

Upon inspecting the toilet paper hole, Luis finds...

...a key!

I wonder what it goes to? It might be wise to inspect the bedroom!

A key? The trunk in the bedroom. At least, that was the only keyhole he'd noticed while browsing the room. With some amount of difficulty, Luis removed the key from the toilet paper holder and moved to his feet, wincing at the cracking of his joints. He spent a few moments inspecting the rest of the bathroom, but he found nothing, so he quickly backtracked to the bedroom where the trunk sat. Dropping into a crouch, he hoped for the best as he inserted the key in the hole and twisted it.

The chest magically made a click noise, and upon looking inside...

...nothing.

Not nothing, really. There are three blue keycards; 1, 7, and 9. As well as a paper with a bloodied number '6' on it. That design looks familiar to something you saw in the bathroom...

Luis stared down at the cards and the paper with the 6. In one quick swoop, he gathered up the cards, then backed away from the trunk. The 6 looked a lot like the backwards 36 and 3 on the mirror on the bathroom... And together, he supposed, they added up to a possible combination for the dresser. And the cards...? He glanced towards the keycard reader beside the door. He could attempt to get out now, or he could try his hand at the combination lock. Curiosity was lost on him, of course; he wasn't the sort to sit there and wonder in any situation. But the possibility of finding something helpful within the dresser outweighed his desire to get the ******** out of there right that minute. Besides, he doubted it would take very long to see what was inside this dresser, and it wasn't like he was starting to experience the negative side effects of CO just yet... (As if to taunt him, his head began to beg to differ.) In the end, he strode over to the dresser and began to twist it meticulously: 36, 3, and 6.

Entering the numbers into the dresser's combination lock, Luis hears a click. And as he swings it open, he finds...

...three more keycards (2, 7, 8 ), and the Digital Roots file!

Now, what could all these keycards be...?

Wonderful. More cards. Luis scooped them up as well, noting the numbers printed on them. In total, he now had a 1, two 7s, an 8, and a 9. But what purpose did the different numbers serve...? He stared down at the file momentarily before lifting it. Without further delay, he made his way back towards the door, opening the file as he did so. The file was about things called 'digital roots', which was a term he was unfamiliar with, but the file was brief and he thought the description was quite straightforward. Adding numbers, then adding the digits of the sum... It sounded like simple math, despite the rather intimidating title.

Stopping beside the keycard reader, he glanced between the numbered cards in his right hand and the open file in his left, and then at the tiny machine beside the door. So, what? Pick out three that had a digital root of nine...? Closing the file, he tucked it into the back of his pants before selecting three of the cards: 1, 8, and 9. 1 + 8 + 9 = 18. 1 + 8 = 9. And 9 was the number on the door.

"This'd better work..." he muttered in a low tone as he swiped each of the three cards.
