Barae's brother, Azar, was a asshat. His rather insulting manner always ended up driving Barae to tears. Despite all his efforts to remain strong and not show how the others words cut him. His mother had offered him good encouragement after all. Still, words really could hurt, and they hurt Barae often. So when he was feeling the need for a good clean cry, he would make up an excuse to leave the cave he shared with his family and trekked on out over open grass and rock. Sometimes he did cry, sometimes just being outside was enough to lighten his mood. Today seemed to be the latter for Barae. With the warm sun overhead and a light breeze ruffling the feathers of his one wing, he seemed able to forget his brothers jabbing comments...and his fathers complete inability to be sensitive. Barae ambled his way amid some large rocks, his hooves sounded sharply on the stoney ground. Though his thoughts were far away, his focus remained set on the area around him. he had never come this far from home before, and he was pleasantly surprised by the small ravine he had wandered into.

Down at the bottom of the ravine, was the river that probably formed the shape of the sides of the valley. Kneeling beside it, Rinji was taking a drink from the cool liquid. Being a wanderer, he comes upon little treasure troves like this one every now and then. Because of this, he knew not to take the resources of the new location for granted. Sticking out of the ground beside him was a long stick with a rope that trailed into the water. He had nothing to store water in, hence why he was getting his fill now, but he could still catch a small supply of fish... if any would bite. When his thirst was quenched, he wiped his mouth and moved back away from the river's edge to sit and wait for something to nibble, unaware of any others that may have wandered into the ravine.

Barae fluttered his mismatched wings as he hopped over a medium sized rock. On the other side he found himself facing a rather refreshing looking stream. Barae swept his eyes up and down the winding waterway, then blinked. His eyes landed upon Rinji's brightly colored hair. But it was his magnificent wings that truly caught his attention. Ah! A dragon! Aside from his father, and brother, Barae had not seen any others of his kind. Even in part. The young quarter dragon stood and stared for a few moments at Rinji. What should he do? Go up and introduce himself? Or...would that be bad? He knew his father was territorial...oh! Crap... was he intruding? Barae cast his eyes around the ravine in a quick scan for some sort of sign of a dwelling cave but...he didn't think he saw anything. Okay...so then...perhaps a greeting at a safe distance... Barae didn't have the same gift as his father with flames... Barae's tail twitched and swayed behind him nervously as he lifted his unchained hand and waved over his head slowly. "H-Hey there..."

Rinji was unaware of the other approaching him as he dunked cupped hands into the stream and brought them up for a drink. He let out a soft, quenched sigh, but his demeanor remained otherwise emotionless. The half-demon was just happy to have some rest as he fixed his long top and sat back to just tend to his own thoughts. Hearing a voice though snapped him from any thoughts that might have come his way as he lifted his dual-colored eyes in the direction of the call. That was when he spotted the other coming his way before stopping some distance and waving. He took note of the others wings and tail, but made no judgement as he bowed his head to the other and called back. "Greetings."

Barae watched the stranger react in a startled fashion. Which was understandable. He clearly had not known someone else was nearby until now. The stranger recovered quickly though, and nodded as he offered his greeting to him. Now that he had been acknowledged though, Barae found himself uncertain what next to do. His purple eyes flickered over the area again and Barae took a pair of slow steps towards the other. "My name is Barae. I hope I am not intruding here." Perhaps simple and straightforward would be the best way to go about this. That way he could quickly get a feel for the stranger, and the other wouldn't be under any pressure to figure out what he was about. "I am just out for a bit of a walk to enjoy the scenery. I've never been down this way before though. Do you live around here?"

Rinji's wings flapped softly as he looked to the other that had called out to him. He did not sense anything threatening coming from the other as he slowly walked closer, but that did not mean that could change, so he was a little cautious, but tried not to show it... which was not too hard for him. "You are not intruding at all Barae. I am Rinji Kokoro and I am just passing through. I have no home of my own and was just resting on my journey to find a place to call home."

When the stranger flapped his wings, Barae came to a halt in his slow steps. He didn't sense any aggression in the act. Though much like a wary cat, he wasn't about to just trot up and expect the other to be okay with that. From what he'd learned of his family, caution was always the best way to go about things. Barae took the time to consider the strangers proposed purpose for being here. "Well, if I can be of any use. I'd suggest not going upstream. My family lives there and my fathers very territorial. Though the fishing isn't bad in the fall and spring. But it's pretty dry during the summer. Unless you like frogs." He tried to offer helpfully to the other.

Rinji took note of the other stopping, but just jotted it up to the other being cautious as well. He was a stranger after all and more than likely on his lands. When Barae mentioned not going upstream, he looked in the direction for but a moment before his gaze returned softly to the other.
"I appreciate the warning and shall take your advice."

Barae barely managed to keep himself from nervously shifting from hoof to hoof. He had a lot going through his mind at this moment. All of it revolving around Rinji's comment of looking for a new home. "I've roamed around this area quite a bit." He really hoped he didn't sound too desperate as he looked up towards the top of the ravine. "Do you have any preferences? I could suggest where to look or..or not."

It would be a lie to say that Rinji didn't notice that Barae seemed nervous, though his face did not show that he was aware of it. "Have you now?" He asked idly as he looked to the top of the ravine as well, wings fluttering just lightly in a small stretch before tucking against his back again. At the question of if he had a preference, he shook his head lightly. "No, not really. Just a place I would either be accepted, or where I will not be bothered." He explained simply with an ever so small shrug of his shoulders.

Barae took the acceptance of advice as a good sign. If Rinji had been a aggressive sort he wouldn't have wanted or cared for anything he might have said. Barae lowered his purple eyes and rubbed at his chin as he thought about the landscape. Upriver was where his family lived. He had never followed the river before so he had never come across this ravine. Though he had explored the areas around it. "If you go further downriver, it will eventually turn into a bigger river. There should be better fishing there then you will find here." He stated with a glance towards Rinjin's fishing line. "If your looking for caves to live in I'm afraid this ravine will provide the better natural options, but it is pretty close to my families home and dad is territorial. He may not know your here for a long time, but thats not really a garuntee he never will. The area down by the river is pretty hilly, with trees in small clumps. If you don't mind working to make your home you might find a grove of trees that would be perfect for shelter and privacy. I've seen lots of waterfowl down there too, and I assume deer will be around come winter. I've seen their marks on trees where they have stripped the bark for food."
