Lurians are short, friendly, and chatoic oxygen-breathing geniuses who live only by one rule: there are no rules except what you make for yourself. They are from Mars (Which they call Luria), and are the smallest species on Charon. They have nimble hands, ornate horns, and solid bony plates, as well as large fluffy ears.. Most inventors, engineers, and scientists on Charon are Lurians, and this has led them to be nicknamed ‘gremlins’ by the humans. Next to humans, they are the most populous, visible, and adventuresome species... in more ways than one, if you know what I mean. (Naming Conventions: None. They name their babies whatever strikes their fancy, though they often take names from other species and cultures or name children after friends.)

Biology Lurians are small, mammal-like creatures that lived underground during the day and only surfaced at night. Once they developed technology, they went aboveground more often. They have long ears protected by thick, soft fluff, and are covered with bony plates ranging from a stony tan to an ivory white, usually on their elbows, knees, knuckles, cheeks, and chest. Often, there are plates on their backs and faces as well, and occasionally elsewhere on their body. They posess extremely varied and ornate antlers on their heads: males have an even number of horns or prongs and females have an odd number. They have three pairs of horn-like structures on their backs which can have antlers and such but are often simple or filed down for convenience. They have short, bristly fur along their bodies, the color of which differentiates the three races of Lurian: White/silver, black/Grey, or rust red. The White coats were from the arctic and polar regions, the black coats were from the trench lands, and the most common color, rust red, were from most of the other regions. Tawny-colored lurians are rare as it is a highly recessive gene.
Of course, since Lurians often find differences more attractive than similarities, there has been much mixing of lineages, and they have no qualms about halfbreeds, whether between races of Lurian or between the species on Charon. They often fall in love with other species... and often fall in and out of love with several people. They have many and varied sexualities and preferences, but cannot pairbond. This means that the Lurians of Charon are of a wide variety of colors and patterns.
Lurian babies are small and are most similar to earth rabbits, albeit with opposable thumb, innate intelligence, and an incredibly curious nature. They are usually kept in the outward bend of the female’s chest plate, where they munch on the nutritious, cotton-candy like soft fur that grows there. It’s composition is much like human milk and serves as both cushioning and food for the growing youngsters. Lurian Litters typically are two young, occasionally three. Litters of four are rare and larger litters are unheard of.
Of natural weapons, they have few. Their claws are stubby, and they have to train for a long time to be combat adept. They mainly go for a defensive role, curling into a ball to use their hard, bony plates as defense. The backs of their enormous ears are tough and leathery (and sometimes plated) and are usually laid back. However, their ears can be flung forward to strike an enemy.
Their blood is iron rich and they bleed a very dark deep red.
Coloring Specs: Lurians have three base ‘races’: Black, silver-white, and Rust Red. Most will be mixed in coloration. Plates can be sandy or stone-like, and small plates aside from the basic chest, cheek, joint, and back plates can be found on the face, stomach (near the chest plate), arms, shoulders, and neck. Their horns can be ivory to bone to antler-y.
The horns on their back tend to remain nubby, but the ones on their head can be intricate, much like antlers. The exact arrangement of horns and prongs is variable, but females ALWAYS have an odd total of points on their head, while males ALWAYS have an even number.
Ear fur is usually white or cream colored.
Markings are generally feline- tabby or ocelot, in either a rusty red, brown, grey, black, or white, usually similar to the coat but not always.
Eye color is variable. They go through apparently feline and human colors. Their eyes are, however, reflective like a cat's and have a 'glow' to them.

History Lurians have a love of novelty and chaos that drives them to innovation. Their history is full of constant upheaval and, as they call it, ‘fun’.
The most relevant event in their history was when they discovered the mars probes, and subsequently discovered they could screw around with other species' technology. This led them to discover the humans on a neighboring planet. Being curious tricksters, they proceeded to watch humans with great fascination, even spawning an equivalent of reality TV dedicated to watching the antics of the humans. Of course, this made first contact easy enough, though paying the humans for the time they unknowingly spent as part of Lurian entertainment and offering to help beat back the enchloro did help. They helped the humans beat back the plantfolk during the first contact war and later developed a thriving trade and tourism industry. They think very much like the humans, and the two developed a close partnership even before the other species of Sol were discovered. They still have this close partnership, with the Lurians often living among the humans and taking on the various relivions there.
Society/Beliefs: Lurian's and humans have this in common: they have many beliefs and many ways of governing themselves. Lurian's tend to either go with the flow or simply do whatever the hell they please.
They have no society of their own. In fact, they are probably the only species that is completely integrated into the shipcity. They absorb whatever beliefs are around them and make whatever friends they please. They have a 'president' for a councilmember, who is often put up for election. The current one is unusual in that she has served multiple terms.

On Charon Lurians are naturally brilliant innovators and their small size allows them to get into small places and make repairs. While they do not have the discipline that humans have, they make up for it by being magically ablet. They also act as peacekeepers between the humans and the others during miscommunications simply because the little gremlins ‘get’ it and are usually happy to stave off a fight. They are known for gravitating towards scientific, engineering, or exploring careers, but also go into other jobs. In fact, only the humans are found in more professions than the Lurians.
Attitudes: Lurians are mercurial and explosively chaotic (sometimes literally), but they are also the most accepting species. All genders, sexualities, species, combinations of species are treated fairly and well. To a Lurian, a friend is a friend, no matter what form they come in. As such, halfbreeds- sometimes not even part lurian- are found in Lurian-dominated neighborhoods.
