Any ideas on how to do it?

I have no money, so I can't afford fruit and veg all the time. I have no money so its cheaper to buy junk than the healthy option. I have no money, so I can't join a weight watchers type program. I have no money, so I can't join a gym. I have no money, so I can't buy an exercise dvd/video.

Seeing a pattern? rofl

Anyone have any good exercise tips? As it looks like thats the only way I'm going to lose this ridiculous weight!

At the moment I weigh 243 lbs and I'm about 5' 10". Not good!

*hugs Lass!* I understand about the money problem! Plus, it's easier to make improvements where you can without having to buy equipment or join a gym sometimes! What I'd do is start some sort of muscle action routine either first thing in the morning or right before going to bed. This is what I used to do. Do like 20 reps of one muscle group, whichever I felt needed some work, and then move on to another muscle group. I'd stand by a wall for support and raise myself up on my toes 20 times to work my calves, then do sideways or backwards leg raises 10 times or so on each leg to work my butt or hips, and then do 20 squats, and then lay down on the bed and do 20 crunches. Something like that is a good start. Anything's a good start!

Or, since I learned a little pilates, doing the stomach muscle ones is easy anytime! Just contract your abdominal muscles and hold there a few seconds on each exhale, then release. You're not even doing crunches; just tightening and releasing muscles with each breath. smile

Whether or not you know a move or exercise from a video, you can normally do what you feel your body needs to. Like after I lay on my back with my legs straight up and do some scissor motions with my legs, my legs feel the need to bend up and down about 10 times at the knee, just to stretch out or feel good or whatever, and that's certainly not something I ever saw in a class or video! Just what feels good to my body.

aw, i know where you're coming from Jen, being short of cash can make things difficult, white breads cheaper than wholemeal, it's generally the pizzas that are on buy one get one free not the healthier options.
Oats are cheap though, being a Scottish lass you should be able to eat porridge til it comes out of your ears!
Frozen veggies are just as good as fresh and a lot cheaper, especially if you have a cheap frozen food shop near you( and a microwave)
i know your work situation sucks at the moment, but one thing it does give you is lots of free time! Get out there and walk.
Whilst my Nan was in hospital my Mum lost a stone just from the extra walking to and from the hospital every day.

Maybe..with your animal expertise you could advertise to walk people's dogs for them??
Take your camera too and sell them shots of their precious pooches

I totally understand the financial end. I'm right there with you. My boss pays for my Weight Watchers or I wouldn't be doing it but like you said, it's really hard to buy the good stuff on a very limited income. Of course this means I'm not doing well at all.

It is unfortunate that some of the cheapest foods are the starchiest as well. When I was still Jenny's age my mom thought I ended up looking anorexic and the main way I was burning fat was with a preferred aerobics video and making sure I never ate coser than 4 or 5 hours before bed time

Don't suppose you still have the video?

I'm looking for a good one at the moment. But none of them really appeal. Actually, I might look into getting Kelly Holmes' DVD. She will know what she's talking about I presume. biggrin

I highly agree with getting out and walking! It's a great way to get your cardio up, which will help boost your metabolism. As far as weight training goes, not much is better than working against yourself--push-ups, squats, lunges. You can find out how to do all of them properly online, there are tons of sites related to that stuff.

One thing that was suggested to me aobut eating is to slow your eating down a lot, cut out as much sugar as you can, and, halfway through each meal, stop and rest for 10 minutes. You'll feel fuller faster. Also, everey time you feel hungry, take a drink of water, as usually what we take for hunger pangs is actually thirst.

3nodding eating slowly certainly makes a big difference, really helps you to eat less as you feel replete sooner, i enjoy walking, but there a so few places for me to walk to around here, and it loses its appeal very quickly when you can only follow the same route all the time neutral

Well I heard something today that seems to have helped.

"Depression is rage turned inwards"

I'm one of these people who needs to understand something before I can start fixing/dealing/doing something. After hearing that, something in m head just went click!!
