Broken ruins, the haunting skeletons of a happier world...

There is little to be done but gather against the darkness. The flickering lights of the world come together and perhaps then they can stand as the last beacon against the oncoming night.

The Queen of Hearts
Cora Mills

Be careful to whom you give your heart, because when you give your heart to someone...

There was little to be done really. He had outlived his usefulness and Cora had grown weary of his simpering. Cold onyx eyes stared at the cowering peasant as he pleaded for more time or whatever his excuse was for his failure, she wasn't really paying attention, nor did she care. With a cold smile she rammed her hand into his chest. The ruby heart glowed brightly in her hand as it was wrenched out with little to no ceremony. No one could fault the Queen of Hearts with being sentimental. The heart was crushed into ash with a flex of her claw-like hand.

"Peasants," she said with disdain as she dusted her hands of 'heart'. Still, they had their uses. As the man collapsed he dropped a small peach. It was insignificant and ordinary to the untrained eye, but she instantly sensed its magical properties. She picked it up and studied it. It was a peach, nothing more...

"But if you turn it this way... it will show you your dreams." A deep male voice echoed in her mind.

Cora gave an amused chuckle as she sensed the deep power laced into the fruit's sweet flesh. She was no stranger to enchantments, but this particular type of magic was special, it was a brand not found in this broken world. It wouldn't get her to where she wanted to go but it was a step in the right direction.

"Show me my dreams indeed," she smirked knowingly, "Men, always so fond of theatrics. I think we can do better..."

With that she walked away from the peasant's body. A young girl no older than 14 rushed from her hiding place amid the foliage and shook her father's cold body.

"Papa... papa! You killed him! You... you..." her green eyes glared at Cora's retreating back even as they brimmed with tears, "We did what you asked..."

The Queen of Hearts paused but didn't turn to face her. "You are a clever girl. I suggest you measure your next words carefully."

The girl shook with grief and anger. "I wish... I wish the goblins-"

She never finished her thought before Cora flicked her wrist an she was thrown against a tree.

"Well see, those really were the wrong words," the Queen smiled cruelly. Another flick of her wrist and a glowing light gathered around the girl's throat before flowing away and coalescing in the witch's gloved hand. "I'll hold on to this. You know, for safekeeping."

The girl's mouth opened but no sound came out. With another infuriating smirk Cora turned before vanishing into a puff of indigo mist.

Be careful to whom you give your heart, because when you give your heart to someone...

There was something about potions that simply wasn't Cora's forte. Elixirs were too subtle a magic for her grasp and while she knew how to brew, it didn't flow easily from her as say tearing out a fresh heart. As much as she hated to admit it, this was a skill better suited for a certain imp's skills. Nonetheless, Cora could make do even with her limitations.

Deep underground in one of her own personal apothecary labs, a peach lay sliced in half and glowing within a glass beaker. Tendrils of magic lay visible as they wove through the flesh of the fruit coating in in layers of power. There were several things here, things she didn't really need: Glamours, illusions, and dream spells. Yet at the core near the pit, there was a spot of magic. It anchored the source of the spell to another world a sort of path beyond their realm. It was complicated but she managed to dissect and hijack the spark of power before weaving into her own enchantment. The peach fizzled and thrummed with power as it resisted her influence but soon it melted into a puddle of smoke and glamour leaving behind the glowing core.

Cora smiled as she drew out her newly loomed spell and bottled it into a tiny flask. The bottle had a pleasant champagne light glowing from it center and she raised it to her eye level to examine it.

"My... well this is perfect now isn't it?" she smiled, "Now all I need, is a mirror."

Baba Yaga walks out of her house to see her beautiful garden which she starts to tend when a ogre stumbles upon the house. Baba calls one of her guardians who throws a spear right through its brain. "spasibo" said baba as she continues to tend her garden. The other guardians then take the body to the river where they dump it to get rid of it. "Mistress me and the guardians have been wondering why weren't we affected by the curse." said her white guardian while she finished with the tending. "Well its because a certain witch had plans that dont include the curse so she saved herself of it." she said to the guardian.

She then walks into the house puts some stuff into a basket and then goes outside. "I'll be back soon must take care of some business that require my assistance and your night side." she said to her black guardian who agreed to go with her to where they needed to go. They walk down the river seeing many things along the way but don't stop as they have other pressing matters that baba must deal with.

While Lady Aurora was creating the fire and setting up camp, it was the female warrior's choice to make sure the immediate surroundings were clear from any harm--or worse, trolls and ogres. It would be a bonus to find fish or any other game that was easy to skin. One could only have so much squirrel or pheasants in his or her life-time.

Keeping ever so silent, she readied her dagger as she came slowly closer to the banks of the river. Hearing vague footsteps she did not recollect, the warrior did her best to hide herself away from immediate sight by laying low and close to some shrubbery not far from the banks of the river. Peeking through what little space between the branches and the leaves, she noticed an elderly woman and a fighting companion traveling along the river side; but it was the woman who had the look of determination--as if she was on a mission of some sort. The female warrior was never one to have anything to bring herself into the attention--as she was never trained that way in any matter. For now, though, she continued to keep silent as she watched on the elderly woman and her possible guardian move onward and most likely past the river.

Baba Yaga

Baba Yaga notices mulan and smiles as if she was expecting her to be there at that moment. She gets out a necklace and puts it around her neck. Her shadow then detaches itself from her as she gives the shadow a ring. Her shadow then flies away with the ring taking it somewhere.

Baba Yaga stops and rests her feet as her guardian barely notices mulan looking at them. He asks what he should do into Baba's ears as she tells him that she is not a threat for now and to let her be. This still troubles her guardian as it goes against her wishes and goes to pick mulan up and take her to baba yaga. Baba Yaga sighs knowing her guardian would disobey her order to leave mulan alone. She then starts poking designs in the sand waiting for her guardian to quickly knock mulan out and eliminate her as a threat.

Odette sat along the river's edge, webbed swan feet tucked under her and wings folded neatly. What was she to do? How was she to find her dearest Sigfried now? The enchanted forest had been destroyed, made horrendously unsafe, she had had to flee on white, downy feathers away from the castle of her darling, Prince Sigfried. Her heart thumped painfully at the memory; her love had confessed unwittingly to Odette's imposter, Von Rothbart's vile daughter Odile. Before Odette could get Sigfried's attention and make him see reason, a curse had taken many residents of the enchanted forest, including more than a few of its leaders and the like, and leaving it defenseless against the forces of darkness. Weak in her swan-state, Odette had had to flee for her life.

Thus, she found herself by the river's edge, biding her time until the sun finally departed and the curse would ebb temporarily, leaving her in her human form able to dance once more. Though most would think it odd that the first thing the girl wanted to do was practice her ballet, it was all she could do to unwind, to release herself from her stresses, and think. Ballet, she thought, was the greatest magic of all. It had the ability to heal all of ones emotional pains and sufferings.

There was nothing to be curious about with the shadow as it was no concern of hers at the moment. Not even the necklace nor the ring. It was more of the safety of Aurora and herself than anything else. However, the guard the elder woman was accompanied with thought other wise.

At first there was some struggle, but the guard was able to get Mulan out from her cover. Moving closer to the elder woman, who seemed not to care at the moment, the former general maneuvered around the guard a little bit better than the guard himself can move. Pushing him downward, seeing him stumble, he was able to pick himself up before swinging a fist towards her.
"I did not come here to fight; but I will."

Not once removing her sword from its sheath, but quickly moving over to pick up the dagger she dropped; the guard was able to catch her in time to give a swoop at her legs, making her fall flat on her face and just out of reach of the dagger. Rolling herself out of the way from the stomp towards her chest, the former general kicked her leg upwards to where the sun doesn't shine for the guard. He did not keel over, but it gave her enough time to swoop in with an upper cut to his nose. Unfortunately, this brought two punches to her face. Not out quite yet, she kept one eye open while the other was screaming to be kept shut. Grabbing a hold of her, the guard moved her closer towards the lake, as if ready to drown her; but it was the knee-punch to his stomach that released her from his grasp. Holding onto his shoulders, she gave two more knee-punches before one more upper cut to the chin this time. It was then the guard finally went down.

Wiping away the blood from the cuts close to her eyes and on her lips, she glanced over to the elder woman and tilted her head curiously.
"Next time, if you want them to kill me; send in at least five for a better chance." Knowing she would get in trouble for getting into a fight--yet again--Mulan believed this elder woman would be no threat for now; or else she would have done so by now. Grabbing the dagger and placing it back onto the belt, the former general glanced over to the swan of white close to the banks of the river. Finding it peculiar for a lone swan to be so close to the banks, she did not mind anything of it for now--possibly one whom is lost from the flock or its mate.

Baba yaga sighs for her guardian who was left dead on the ground. "Why must they always resist at first. Guess i do have to get my hands dirty." Grumbled the old witch as she made steel binds wrap around Mulan. She looks at the half dead body and surrounds it in dark clouds reviving the guardian. "Did you really think i'd let my creation die? Foolish younglings these days no respect for elder witches. In my day you would ask questions get your answers then be on your way but now all people wanna do is fight! Now how is that in any way civilized? Well anyways Mulan our paths were fated to meet including that swan so will you listen?" She said as she pulled a teapot out of her basket and poured herself some tea. Her guardian got up and sat down embarrassed at his defeat at the hands of a human girl.

Odette watched the fight between the Asian woman in exotic armor and the odd, armored man with frightened eyes. If she had been a normal bird, the sight and sounds would have had her flying away. As this was not the case, she was frozen, though the lake nearby was certainly an option she knew she could take if need be. The Asian woman finished the man and looked her way, making the swan princess flinch.

Quite frightened of the woman now, Odette stood in preparation of taking to the lake. The old woman's words stopped her in her tracks. She swiveled her long neck to peek at the woman through black eyes. Her eyes widened as bet they could. The woman was a witch, a magic user just like the man who had changed her into a swan! But was this one good or bad? The swan could not fully trust the old witch until she knew the answer. But what had the woman meant by saying that their paths are fated to meet? She asked, but all that came out was a series of trumpet-sounding honks.
