Since the beginning of time there have been people training dragons to keep the supernatural world in check. They make up a council of dragon riders that make sure the demons don't inflict too much chaos and the leprechauns don't give people so much good luck that they don't have to learn anything. The council is there to keep the peace. In order to train new dragon riders they set up a school called The Dragon Academy of Quevorath. It tests and trains young riders, teaching them to train their dragon and harness the powers within themselves. Dragon riders are rare, they only find around a hundred every year that can even train a dragon, less that can harness the powers within themselves. Only around fifteen people actually graduate the Academy and go on to work with the council and get the power of the world in their hands. With such immense power there are the few that believe they should do more than keep the peace, they should rule the world. They formed a group called the Keepers. They wanted absolute power and were working in secret to undermine the council. They were exposed and a war began, making the training of young dragon riders more and more important. Then everything went south. The Keepers attacked and destroyed both the council building and the school, killing everyone at the council building, human and dragon alike, and killing almost every child at the school. Only four remain, and now it's up to them to fix the world and set it straight. But they're only teenagers, can they do it?

And the process for becoming a dragon rider not only requires the person to be imbued with magic and power, but also during the hatching of the dragon eggs, it is up to the dragon itself to pick ther rider based on compatible personalities.

Ayin woke up with a gasp and bolted into a standing position. She let out a cry of pain and stumbled. She grasped the first thing she could to keep herself in a standing position. With a groan her eyes focused and her hand flew to her mouth. It was destroyed, it was all destroyed. The school, the pen, the dragon paddock. It was all gone. Ayin looked down. Her light green nightgown was soaked and stained with blood. But whose blood. Even in the pouring rain everything was still smoldering. The smell of charred wood and flesh assaulted her nose. The devastating loss numbed her to her own pain and she started walking. Her bare feet stung with the cold as she walked through a puddle looking at all the destruction. Suddenly worry and panic hit her. Where was Maila?
She started running. "MAILA! MAILA!" she cried looking around for the beautiful blue dragon. She tripped as she ran down a hill and started rolling, then she heard a familiar roar of a voice. "Ayin!" Her roar of fear mingled with her shout and then there was a scaly tail with soft fur wrapped around her and pulled her to a stop. "Maila!" she said, relieve flooded her voice and she clung to the blue dragon. Before she could stop them tears overfilled her eyes and spilled over down her cheeks. "Everyone's dead Maila. They're all dead." Her sobs echoed off the burning trees.
Kadin was wrapped Ksashurru's leathery wings when he woke up. He'd been out late, practicing his turns with Ksashurru when the attack happened. Ksashurru tried to fight but they were both to inexperienced to help so Ksashurru got them both out of there and hid them in the surrounding the school. Kadin tapped on the wings and Ksashurru let him out. For the first time he saw the destruction, the burning fire. It was raining, as if the sky was mourning the loss of everyone at the school. Suddenly he heard a familiar mellifluous voice. He recognized it anywhere. Ayin, the class water elemental. Suddenly there was the roar of a dragon followed by loud sobs.
Kadin stood on Ksashurru's back as he looked for them. If he found Ayin, he'd find Maila. Dragons and Riders were inseparable. "Come on Ksashurru, let's find them." He settled himself on his beck right at the base of Ksashurru's neck and they took off. They flew over what had once been the school, what was now a smoldering pile of rubble. It didn't take long to find Ayin and Maila. "There they are," he said to Ksashurru. They started looking for a place to land.

{Ooc: SORRY IT TOOK SO LONG!} Alure had just come back from hunting with Dep, when she spotted a formation of foreign dragons approaching the academy. "We have to sound the alarm!" She hissed as lure directed her dragon. They were halfway across the training field, when an enemy waylaid them from behind, fire breathing from its nostrils. A battle quickly ensued. Alure didn't know how long she could stand on her own, and she didn't see any help coming. Both dragons danced across the night sky, neither one making much headway, but Depthtalon had just gorged himself, and was beginning to move sluggishly.Zim hear the explosion, and felt it rock the dorm building. He was on the 6th floor. There was no way he could make it to the bottom before the place gave way, and he didn't have time to wake anyone. If they hadn't felt the vibrations, there was no hope. He dove out of the window spread eagle, and free fell from the window. A couple feet from the ground, Ezmot caught him. 'You cannot be so reckless!' Zim shuddered. 'What would have happened if I had not been here?' Zim didn't want to think about it. "It didn't matter, one way or another I would have died. At least I had a chance jumping from the window." Ezmot didn't reply. They flew higher in the sky trying not to be spotted. There was nothing they could do. It would have been pointless to stay and fight. Zim turned around and saw the school in ruble. There couldn't possibly be any survivors. "Alure..". he whispered. Had she gotten out all right? That was when he heard the clamor below and saw her battling, and saw the enemy swipe at the tender fabric of Dep's wing. He cried out in pain and dropped lower, having to work harder to keep aloft. Anger swelled in Zim and he shot a gale of wind at the opponent and knocked them off balance. Ezmot quickly drew up along side of Dep and helped guide them away. They had to escape. The enemy seemed to have forgotten about them, as they quickly flew of towards a load bugal call. There wasn't anything left of the school. "I'm glad you're all right Al.... Dep, do you think you'll be alright?" The dragon hrumphed in reply. His pride would keep him from telling the truth. They'd have to take a look at the wound when they landed.. While flying, Zim overheard voices. He scanned the area and saw two lone figures, and two huddled dragons. "I t looks like Ayin and that Marks kid." They flew down and landed in the clearing silently. They didn't speak, there wasn't much to say. Everyone they knew had just been massacred.

((OOC: It's okay. I don't mind. biggrin At least you replied.)) Ayin's sobs masked the sounds of the gathering dragons, the other survivors finding her, not the other way around. Why couldn't she fight? Why couldn't she help. She was one of the best riders in the class, yet she'd been helpless. Maila softly nudged her side and she looked up, blinking tears out of her eyes to see clearer. The large blue dragon gestured with her beautiful head to the sky and the clearing around them. There were three other dragons. Kadin Marks and Alure and Zim D'artigi seemed to have survived.
With a sniffle, Ayin stopped crying though she was shivering in the cold rain. Gritting her teeth she decided to go see how everyone was. She got along alright with Alure and Zim, they hadn't spoken much before, but Kadin and her were almost always at each other's throats. There didn't seem to be a main reason but the biggest reasons were their family names. She came from one of the best dragon riding families, while he came from one of the worst. He was the first in generations to be able to actually even get a dragon to pick him, let alone manifest any type of magical abilities. It didn't help that their elements were opposites.
She shook the petty thoughts from her head and slid off of Maila's tail. She landed with a grunt and a cry of pain as her knees buckled out from under her. She landed flat on her face and just lay there trying to force herself to stand. There were searing pains in her ribs and ankle. She'd probably only sprained the ankle but her ribs were definitely broken. She suddenly felt a soft hand on her shoulder, taking her arm, and helping her up. She leaned on them heavily. "Thanks," she said softly. "No problem," a rough deep voice answered. Shocked, Ayin looked up at Kadin. I guess total devastation and destruction can sooth any petty feud, she thought as she looked up into his dark eyes.Kadin noticed Alure and Zim flying over on the backs of their dragons and he felt immense relief to know that it wasn't only him and Ayin alive. They wouldn't survive together much longer if it had been. They couldn't get along, not at all. Well, it was more Ayin didn't seem to want to. Kadin had tried, and tried, and tried, but Ayin only ever found faults in him. She seemed to carry her families prejudice against his family. Still, he didn't know just what had happened, so he needed to be around other people, find out. He landed in the clearing next to Zim and Alure and dismounted Ksashurru, just in time to hear Ayin give a cry of pain and watch her crumple to the ground.
He walked over and hovered for a second, not sure what to do. She seemed to need help to stand. Well, feud or not, he needed her around as much as she needed his help. With a gentle touch he helped her to her feet. She leaned on him heavily, clearly not noticing who he was. "Thanks," she said. It was amazing how melodic her voice sounded even when she was panting with pain. "You're welcome," he replied, mentally wincing at just how rough his sounded, especially in comparison to hers. She looked up, shocked and he looked back at her. After a minute they seemed to silently agree to not mention anything about their rocky past and Kadin helped her over to where Alure, Zim, and their dragons were. "Hey," he said, consciously trying to make his voice softer. "Are you all okay?"

"Yea, We're all right. Alure and Dep got attacked though. I think the cartilage in Dep's left wing got clawed to bits. How about you guys?" It was a dumb question on his part. He could see that Ayin was injured, and he knew no one in their right mind would be okay after what had just happened. There was merely coping. All their friends were either dead, or captures, or killed, or whatever the goal of the invasion had been. All that was left was survival.Alure couldn't speak. Dep was huddled as close to the tree as he could get to keep his wing from being battered by the wind, and so every time a gust blew through, she could feel the pain racing through her left arm. There was no supplies. There hadn't been time. They would have to go elsewhere to get necessities and stay under the radar of whoever had planned this attack, because who ever it was, wanted the dragon riders dead. "We need to move on." She finally managed to croak out.

Ayin looked at Zim and shrugged. "I've seen better days," she said attempting a smile but managing a pained grimace. She turned to Alure when she spoke but the pain made her stop mid turn and she clenched Kadin's arms so hard she felt her nails pierce his skin. He half jerked away but held steady to keep her standing. Tears of pain streamed out of her eyes and she felt Kadin shake his head.Kadin glanced at Ayin when she spoke and then he responded. "I'm...as okay as I can be given the circumstances," he said before Alure spoke. He felt Ayin half turn and suddenly she was clenching his arm hard enough to draw blood. He jerked away automatically to stop the pain but realized what he was doing in time so he held steady to keep her from falling over. He shook his head. "We can't leave now," he said looking at Alure. "Ayin clearly has broken ribs, she can barely stand let alone fly, and Depthtalon doesn't look like he can fly. We need to find supplies around here and help everyone heal before we move on. They think we're all dead. They won't be coming back. Not for a while." He looked down at Ayin, who seemed to be crying from the pain but was trying hard not to make a sound.

Zim felt a little restless after the adrenaline had been pulsing through his veins. "What can I do? There won't be any dry sticks in this rain to start a fire. I can try and find some food of some sort." While he spoke, he looked around for some sort of edible vegetation. "Over there." Grimaced Alure. "There should be some bushes with edible berried." She could feel the vegetation around her. "Roger that." He scampered off in pursuit of the meager food. "Do we have anything we can use as shelter?" There was no use in dwelling over the pain. They had to find away to survive even throughout the night. "With those injuries you may be more prone to catching pneumonia." If only the rain would stop.

Ayin smirked at what Zim said about the fire before he ran off. They had someone who created and controlled fire. They just needed a dry place to put the wet wood so the heat could dry it out and then start a fire. She thought about stuff for a shelter. "I think I saw the pool tarp wrapped around those trees over there," she said gesturing to the edge of the forest. "If we took that down and then found a spot with...like... I don't know, low lying branches and threw the tarp over it we could make a little tent like structure," she said as Kadin helped her over to Maila and let her lean against the dragon. " It will at least keep us out of the rain. And then Kadin can dry out some wood and we could make a fire to keep us warm." She looked up at him to see what he say.Kadin listened to Ayin talking about how they could survive. She started hobbling over to her dragon and Kadin helped her. When she let go he rolled his sleeve up and let the rain wash off the blood. There were five tiny holes in his skin where her nails had pierced him. When he mentioned her making a fire he looked at her and then thought about it. "I can try," he said softly. "If I can't make the fire. Ksashurru probably can." She nodded and then slid her way down to the wet ground and laid down. That probably wasn't very good for her but the cold ground seemed to help her pain. "I'll go look for that tarp," he said. He glanced at Alure. "I think there are some medicinal herbs growing around here. If they survived the attack we can probably use them to heal Depthtalon." He smiled kindly at her before he ran off towards the group of trees in search of the tarp Ayin hopefully saw.
