Here is where all the lists will go to help you understand how each species is related to others on many different topics.

Average Lifespan (longest to shortest, in Earth Years)

          Hadan
Easily Millenia. They just keep going. Nobody’s met a Hadan that’s died of old age yet, and it’s practically impossible to kill them. Any that have turned up dead, the cause is unknown.
Thank goodness there’s so few of them, they eat so little, and they reproduce so slowly.

          Female Varton
500-700 years, generally. Their lifespan becomes considerably longer when they morph into Queens, but even then they usually meet a violent end..

          Deriviapod
They can live up to 700 or so years or so- as far as is known.

          Heraculean
200-300 years. Some have lived longer

          Dioti
200-250 years... Possibly longer as they start adopting human medical technology

          Human
180-200 years, thanks to medical advances.... 180 is the new 80.

          Enchloro
150 years, if they want to. Normally, however, they transfer their knowledge via the neural net however they please, so the death of the individual is very tricky.

          Lurian
90-120 years typically. They just burn out, which can upset humans that have made lasting friendships with the little guys

          Male Varton
81 years is the oldest we’ve seen, but the males are so violent that they rarely die of old age, so maximum lifespan is unknown.

          Nayame
30-60 years. Nayame are extremely short lived and prone to disease. They also tend to live fast and loose.

Smartness level from most to least

The different species of Charon have different averages in intelligence and problem solving skills, as shown below:

          Lurian
          Dioti
          Derivapod = Queen Vartons
          Female Vartons
          Enchloro = Humans
Heraculans = Nayame = Male Varton
          Hadan

A few random factoids:

As can be seen, Lurians are brilliant. They are full of ideas. Humanity has helped them turn these brilliant and inspiring ideas into technology that actually works.

Enchloro, though of humanlike intelligence by a standard measure, are highly alien.

Queen Vartons get a boost when they transform from bipedal females.

Hadans are quite slow, but they DO have eidetic memories lasting thousands of years.

These are just average measurements, and reflect the stereotypes of each species on Charon. Your character can be whatever you wish them to be.

Technological level from most to least

          Human
Because humans are sort of squishy and cannot do magic, they have focused their efforts into making lots of technology. They are advanced enough to be able to change things about babies before they have them, and they have almost wiped out all human diseases, extending the human lifespan from an order of decades to an order of centuries.

          Lurian
They are brilliant, but because they are also a little nutty and have had to focus on technology and magitec, they are approximately human-level overall (in part because of active communication between the two). Their technology tends to be 'awesome' and 'spectacular'.

          Enchloro
Specialize in biotechnology and creature breeding. Their technology is alive and highly specialized, all of it. It also has a tendancy to be... interesting... visually, and very colorful. Also flowery, because they are capable of inserting themselves into a 'neural network' that can function as a giant sentient council-like computer and can allow them to control their technology directly and interface with other forms of technology. Its realy creepy, but pretty!

          Varton
Mostly weapons. Lots of weapons. Most other technologies are spartan, and magical technology has never gone beyond Fireballs. However, they are advanced in Philosophy and law.

          Nayame
The Nayame, because they borrow from everybody else, have focused their own efforts on luxury and translation technology, which they trade, along with their mediative services, for all the other things.

          Heraculean
Heaculeans do not have magitechnology- they use physical technology. Most of this is to fill in for whatever they can't do with their bare hands (and bodies ;3), like spaceflight or any flight or fast transportation. Healthcare is a big thing, especially plastic surgery and restorative medicine. Technology that inspires philosophical musings, such as astronomy, is also a big thing with them. However, they live mostly spartan, if sometimes cosmetic-filled, lives.

          Dioti
The Dioti believe that too much technology will distance them from their past and their own abilities, and so have avoided technology for the most part, though they have some technology and advanced magitechnology. As the generations pass on Charon, however, resistance to new technology is lessening as the knowledges of the species blend together and technology, science, and other things become ubiquitous. They currently lead in Magitech development because of their innate biological understanding of magic.

          Hadan
They are so hardy that they never needed to make up technology beyond a few simple tools. They don’t mind it, but they never needed to invent for themselves before Charon.

          Derivapod
Highly resistant to technology, more so than the Dioti. They will use what the Nayame provide, but reluctantly. They do not even make Magitech. If they have a technological specialty it is architecture.

Rarity (Most to Least common):

These species make up the majority of Charon's population. There will not be any restrictions on artists creating or people questing for them.

          Common: Humans, Lurians (1/1) -
Fairly Common: Dioti, Heraculean, Male Varton, Nayame (1/2)

These are the less common species of Charon. If we feel we have too many walking around the shipcity, we will be unlikely to accept quests of this type. Hybrids are iffy and tricky. Please see the post below about compatable Hybrids and be aware that we are less likely to accept halfbreed quests than single-species quests. Hybrids may also be given out in special events.

Uncommon: Deriviapod, Enchloro, Varton Female (1/4)
          Rare: Hadan, Hybrids (1/5)

These varieties of creature- the dragonic leaders of the Vartons and the extraordinarily rare and shunned female Heraculean are SPECIAL EVENT ONLY. You may not quest for either, though Varton Females are available and can become Queen during these special events.

Almost impossible: Varton Queen, Female Heraculean (1/???)

Hybrids: The WHAT WE ALLOW.

In the interest of some form of pseudo-magical realism, we wanted to put some limits on what can breed with what.

Because of Magic and Science and technology and stuff, there are many options. Same sex couples are as able to reproduce as any heterosexual couple, though each individual is only allowed to reproduce twice unless they buy an additional child licence (to prevent overpopulation). There is always the option of adopting/surrogating/donoring/etc for couples who, for one reason or another, don't want to use technology to make a baby or reproduce in the 'traditional' way.
More on that in the Breeding thread, of course. Here, we are specifically talking about hybrids. Every individual can breed with their own species just fine or, in some cases, with themselves (Yay magic!). Occasionally, love crosses species boundaries. This is varyingly acceptable, depending on species and culture and individual beliefs, etc. In the couple of centuries or so that Charon has been drifting through the void of space, its happened occasionally.
As have... cross species babies. Since we are in the BC forum and we all know how much we love Hybrids, a few rules need to be set.

First off, not everything can breed with everything else, well except for Deriviapods and Heraculeans. They reproduce through purely magical and abstract means, so they are compatable, literally, through magic. Enchloro, however, are plants and so alien that they can only hybridize with magical creatures. Because of this, their symbiont's DNA comes along for the ride sometimes.
Hadans are so bizzare and alien that they cannot hybridize at all.
Humans and Nayame hybridize fairly easily because of their adaptablity.

All this information is on that graph above.

Why you might want a Hybrid:
DUDE THEY ARE ******** AWESOME! They have cool art and edits and stuff and the potential for really awesome backstories and colors and wooo!
Some might even have rare powers or be 'better' in some ways than the parent species.
Some might be able to survive in lots of places or see the future or... or... cool things like that.

They come with some serious downsides, though.
Well, first off, THEY ARE TWO SPECIES. FROM DIFFERENT PLANETS. This can cause psychological issues, hormonal issues, organ issues, social issues, and lots of other problems. Hell, they might not be able to breathe effectively, or be very sick all the time. They are also likely to be sterile, even to magic sometimes. Basically, all the awesome comes with a nasty grab-bag of physical problems, and we havent even mentioned all the social problems.
Magical hybrids tend to do a bit better, especially deriviapod hybrids, but they can also have problems of their own... like magical explosions. Or something like that.

An example of the s**t hybrids have to go through is Drac's Lurian/Human Odie. Because she is half lurian, she has too much iron in her blood, which damages her half-human organs. Later in life, she will have to get implants to help with that. She has keen hearing and eyesight, as well as good night vision, but she is also sensitive to sudden bright lights because she just can't handle sudden light like a full lurian. She is smarter than a human child and dumber than her lurian child and she has very few friends of either because of her need to bully to feel in control of her life. Her behavior will only get worse when she hits puberty (early for a human and late for a lurian) and she starts to feel conflicting desires. Lurians are known for their easy promiscuity, but she definitely won't be comfortable with her own blossoming desires. Clothing, also is a problem, but not by too much- its not hard to find a custom clothing designer or store and on Charon they are cheap. But she won't be able to just buy a shirt and wear it. Hats are tricky and may even be out of the question.
Still, Odie and other hybrids can find a place in society easily enough. She wants to be a part of the crew- the military/police/spaceship part of the spacecity's infrastructure. She can overcome her issues and work hard to do it, and they will let her in if she qualifies.
She is not so lucky with her parents- her Lurian father doesn't know she exists and her mother feels she is an embarassment. Lurian/Human hybrids aren't as stigmatized as other hybrids, but it still isn't easy.
Oh yeah. and she likely can't have babies in most ways. Adoption is still available as is just about any other option besides donating the materials herself.

We aren't saying you can't try for a hybrid, or that we hate them, we just would prefer there to be lots of non-hybrids around and that you consider all the s**t they would have to go through as a hybrid.
