Hybrids: The WHAT WE ALLOW.
In the interest of some form of pseudo-magical realism, we wanted to put some limits on what can breed with what.
Because of Magic and Science and technology and stuff, there are many options. Same sex couples are as able to reproduce as any heterosexual couple, though each individual is only allowed to reproduce twice unless they buy an additional child licence (to prevent overpopulation). There is always the option of adopting/surrogating/donoring/etc for couples who, for one reason or another, don't want to use technology to make a baby or reproduce in the 'traditional' way.
More on that in the Breeding thread, of course. Here, we are specifically talking about hybrids. Every individual can breed with their own species just fine or, in some cases, with themselves (Yay magic!). Occasionally, love crosses species boundaries. This is varyingly acceptable, depending on species and culture and individual beliefs, etc. In the couple of centuries or so that Charon has been drifting through the void of space, its happened occasionally.
As have... cross species babies. Since we are in the BC forum and we all know how much we love Hybrids, a few rules need to be set.

First off, not everything can breed with everything else, well except for Deriviapods and Heraculeans. They reproduce through purely magical and abstract means, so they are compatable, literally, through magic. Enchloro, however, are plants and so alien that they can only hybridize with magical creatures. Because of this, their symbiont's DNA comes along for the ride sometimes.
Hadans are so bizzare and alien that they cannot hybridize at all.
Humans and Nayame hybridize fairly easily because of their adaptablity.
All this information is on that graph above.
Why you might want a Hybrid:
DUDE THEY ARE ******** AWESOME! They have cool art and edits and stuff and the potential for really awesome backstories and colors and wooo!
Some might even have rare powers or be 'better' in some ways than the parent species.
Some might be able to survive in lots of places or see the future or... or... cool things like that.
They come with some serious downsides, though.
Well, first off, THEY ARE TWO SPECIES. FROM DIFFERENT PLANETS. This can cause psychological issues, hormonal issues, organ issues, social issues, and lots of other problems. Hell, they might not be able to breathe effectively, or be very sick all the time. They are also likely to be sterile, even to magic sometimes. Basically, all the awesome comes with a nasty grab-bag of physical problems, and we havent even mentioned all the social problems.
Magical hybrids tend to do a bit better, especially deriviapod hybrids, but they can also have problems of their own... like magical explosions. Or something like that.
An example of the s**t hybrids have to go through is Drac's Lurian/Human Odie. Because she is half lurian, she has too much iron in her blood, which damages her half-human organs. Later in life, she will have to get implants to help with that. She has keen hearing and eyesight, as well as good night vision, but she is also sensitive to sudden bright lights because she just can't handle sudden light like a full lurian. She is smarter than a human child and dumber than her lurian child and she has very few friends of either because of her need to bully to feel in control of her life. Her behavior will only get worse when she hits puberty (early for a human and late for a lurian) and she starts to feel conflicting desires. Lurians are known for their easy promiscuity, but she definitely won't be comfortable with her own blossoming desires. Clothing, also is a problem, but not by too much- its not hard to find a custom clothing designer or store and on Charon they are cheap. But she won't be able to just buy a shirt and wear it. Hats are tricky and may even be out of the question.
Still, Odie and other hybrids can find a place in society easily enough. She wants to be a part of the crew- the military/police/spaceship part of the spacecity's infrastructure. She can overcome her issues and work hard to do it, and they will let her in if she qualifies.
She is not so lucky with her parents- her Lurian father doesn't know she exists and her mother feels she is an embarassment. Lurian/Human hybrids aren't as stigmatized as other hybrids, but it still isn't easy.
Oh yeah. and she likely can't have babies in most ways. Adoption is still available as is just about any other option besides donating the materials herself.
We aren't saying you can't try for a hybrid, or that we hate them, we just would prefer there to be lots of non-hybrids around and that you consider all the s**t they would have to go through as a hybrid.
