A world of many races, but ruled by humans: others are mostly either shoved onto the outskirts of human society or forced into servitude. Magical ability is very rare, concentrated in only a handful of family lines, and these families form aristocracies and royal families who often war amongst themselves for control over the land and its peoples. The rare magical plants and animals are sacred to the magical ruling class, and interference with them by non-magic users is punishable by death. Duniya has many climates, but most of the population lives in the tropical regions.

Mabel keeps to herself, very reserved due to her element of decay. She doesn't want to hurt anyone. She's a very calm person most days, but when she is scared she starts to get hysterical. When she is mad she doesn't really see it, but most people can see her glaring at them.

Her childhood was filled with her mother pampering her and showing her off to her colleges, but she found her escape from her mothers expectations. She would go into her room where she kept a small flower garden. When she was quite young her mother found out that her element was decay, whenever someone made contact with Mabel's skin their blood would stop flowing and if they maintained contact for long the area that was touching Mabel wouldn't revive itself. Mabel's mother forced her to wear gloves for her protection and others. And told her that when Mabel grew up that she would be able to control it enough to touch someone else without the gloves, but that she had to keep the gloves on until then. Her childhood was also littered with cases of her getting sick, she now she hates sickness and getting sick.
When Mabel turned 18 her mother saw it fit to send her to Thousand Gates Academy, where she would learn to control her magic. For a full year she was taught how to control her element, and for that whole year she didn't have contact with anyone. She didn't want others to touch her if she was going to hurt them. Since she didn't want anyone to touch her she found the school garden and started taking care of them. After that year she was able to keep her element in check, but she still keeps the gloves on just in case.
