Life was good. Cordero hadn't really hit the low point of being out on his own yet and he never went to bed hungry. Although, he didn't know what kind of dangers he now had to protect himself from though. As an adolescent he had wandered the lands but always made to stay close to his mother and siblings as he didn't really want to get separated from them. However, once he became an adult he decided that he really wasn't ready to go to the pride with his mother and start his life there. In fact, he wasn't sure if he even wanted to go to the Swampies. So all of those things smashed together and well, it had led him here.

Cordero stood only inches from a watering hole which was surrounded by trees with no leaves. The dirt was dry and there seemed to be no life around him at all. While he should have been more leery of this situation, he wasn't. In fact he was more then happy to walk up to the watering hole with not so much slight hesitation. Then again, that might have been because he had seen his mother leery of almost everything that moved or sometimes didn't move. He dipped his maw into the water and lapped up as much water as his body could carry. This was something his mother had taught him and his siblings to do, but he admittedly didn't know why. Mys'ketay, his mother, wouldn't make them drink so much water if there wasn't a reason though. He learned that the hard way once when they went without water for several days. It had been miserable.

If Seito understood anything, it was being alone. The small lioness hated it, of course, but being alone was no pleasure, simply in that she was easily... Confused. She'd never fended for only herself, the former slave walking carefully. Even free for a time her littermate had taken care of her, and the experience was interesting if nothing else.

She wished she hadn't wandered so far from him though. It had been a long time since seeing her brother, and in kind, her brother was the cause of his concern. She didn't know him well, but he was protective, and surely worried.

The lioness fidgeted as she walked, nose catching the scent of water close by, and she looked up slightly. Her head never went above her shoulders, but it smelled fresh, and she moved for the scent slowly, tentatively. When she drew nearer, though, the scent of another gave room for pause, and the female gave a shiver, moving lightly, looking.

Seeing someone else was unplanned, but seeing a male made her pause to make herself small and nonthreatening as she crept near, half wanting to drink, half afraid of a negative reaction, and therefor, she crept close, almost crawling on her belly like a newborn to a mother's side, and looked at the male's drinking patiently, remaining low.

Despite his lack of concern, Cordero was great at tracking and hunting so he knew how to use his nose. It wasn't hard for him to notice the female approaching and he wasn't afraid at all. In fact another male looking for something to kill could have come walking up and he wouldn't have even thought for a moment to run or get ready for a fight. Needless to say when the black lioness with small designs that looked white and the color of sand appeared he found it a bit odd to watch her creep up to the watering hole for a drink. In fact he wondered if she was injured or something. He waited until she reached the watering hole before he lifted his head up to get a better look at her.

"Hello!" Cordero greeted her happily, completely unaware that she may be terrified of him. "The water tastes delicious. You look like you might need some so, drink up!" He grinned before returning to drink himself. His mind of course was ablaze with questions to ask this lioness as she was the first lioness he had ever encountered alone. Cordero lifted his head once more and looked over at her. "You know, if you ever feel overheated you can dig up some dirt or even sand and what's unearthed will be much cooler then the top layer." Cordero said, once more not considering that she knew this information. Clearly he didn't talk to others much and the poor boy really just wanted to talk to others.

For one moment, Seito was frozen, eyes widening before she nodded slowly.

"O...Oh... Thank you." She let him finish speaking, however, taking the information in. Mostly... She didn't know it, and once he took a moment, she crept close, still small, and dipped her head to drink in small, shy sips, watching.

"...A...Am I intruding?"

The young lion was surprised by how soft her voice was but smiled all the more brightly. Maybe he had found someone to talk to. Cordero turned himself and laid down next to the lioness. "You're welcome." He answered before she spoke again but only after she had started to drink. "No. I was just stopping for a drink. Never know when the next watering hole will pop up. When I was a cub my mother warned me and my siblings to drink enough water to make us sick and I didn't listen. We went several days without water and I thought for sure I was going to die." Cordero laughed gently. His blue eyes scanned her again, and he once more found no reason on the surface for her to be so low.

Then she asked if she was intruding and he could help but tilt his head in slight confusion. "I don't own the watering hole. No one can own something other then themselves." He said, never having heard of slavery in his life. "Well, there are those that think they can." He added, pawing at some sand with his right paw. His mother had told him of her life, how her father had kept her as a slave, never letting her out of the den until she ran away and all the things that befell her... How he and his siblings came to be. It was kind of hard to know that his mother had been conned into spending the night with his father who quickly abandoned her afterwards. However, his mother said as hard as that was for her to go through she was so happy to have them. He supposed that's where his blue mane came from and where the blue glow his siblings had came from as well. Despite knowing this Cordero never once thought that there could be prides out there that kept slaves. He assumed his grandfather had just been one of those few who was bad. "Are you hurt?" Cordero finally asked. "I don't see any wounds on the surface but I figured the way you were walking was..." He wasn't sure what word to use. He had never been submissive or seen someone be submissive and frankly didn't understand.

"O...Oh. N..No... I'm not hurt." She blinked, staring. Was he close? What was he doing? She looked back to the water, drinking again.

"I've never been alone before. I w...was a slave until m..my brother took me away." She swallowed timidly. Oh, she hoped she wasn't offending him! Seito continued watching, wary.

"You're not hurt?" He repeated, one of his eyebrows raised. He didn't really believe her but, maybe she was telling the truth. "Me either!" Cordero responded, his tail flicking behind him playfully. However, his amusement and happiness drained from his maw when he heard she had been a slave. "You... You.. You were a slave?" He asked, the hurt look he had for her was visible in his eyes. "Where? They must have hurt you! Where are they now?" Cordero asked, rising quickly to his feet and bridging the small gap between them. "Where is your brother now?" He asked, thinking that her brother had also been a slave and now was in trouble and that's why she wasn't with him. "I'll help you go rescue him!" Cordero nodded. "Was it your father too? My mother was a slave for her father. He never let her outside and was... awful to her." He closed his eyes for a moment, trying to calm himself down a little.

"You don't ever have to go back there again." Cordero once more smiled, this time it was more sweet and innocent; his young age showing through.

Seito squeaked, blinking. Why was he concerned? She looked... Confused. Males didn't just protect females like this! It was.. odd to her. Foreign.

"O...Oh... I w..wandered from my B...BNrother. R...Rufus saved me. F..Father just t...threw me to friends of h...his for not being a son. Ruffy w...was his h...h...heir before Ruffy kil...killed him and ran with me." Seito blinked, studying him. He didn't look too old-- but she and Rufus were young themselves. She wasn't sure he was fully filled out for a grownup-- or, their father had just been fat. Or both. She didn't know.

"I...I didn't mean to upset you."

Cordero listened intently to what Seito said and made sure to nod at the appropriate times so that she knew he was listening. "Just because you weren't a guy?" He asked, looking as just as confused as she was at his age. "That's not something he can't mad over, besides, he had your brother anyways." Cordero just didn't understand. "Were you the only slave?" He asked before he shrugged. "I'm not violent, but I hope your brother made sure his death was not quick." He said as if that was something normal to say outloud. He certainly thought so.

"Upset?" He asked, his light skyblue eyes searching for her's. "I'm not upset at you. I'm sorry you were treated that way and if your brother hadn't killed your father I probably would have asked you to tell me where to find him and made sure he had never hurt anyone again." He said with a soft smile. "I'm Cordero."

"It's okay." Seito drank a little more, forming an answer.

"I didn't see it, but I heard. Most slaves were weaker members, but father wanted sons." Seito looked down.

She drank quietly before answering again, looking to Cordero and nodding slowly.

"My name is Seito." She nodded, smiling faintly, but still wary.

"I can't imagine he had to many lions who were behind him. I wouldn't stand for a king who do that." He sighed, realizing that it wasn't really his choice to make. "Nice to meet you Seito." Cordero genuinely smiled. He watched her as she continued to drink, happy to see a slight smile on her maw. Cordero rolled over onto his back and looked up at her to try seeing her from another angle. Again, he wasn't convinced she was uninjured. "Where are you heading to next?" He asked, curious to know if Seito needed any help finding her brother but not sure if he should ask. She seemed.. afraid? Being a former slave he supposed she had a right to be but he would never imagine hurting someone else, well, unless they were like her father. Then he would gladly hurt them. Cordero just knew he didn't want her to be afraid of him.

"I'm not sure." Seito blinked. "Im just looking everywhere is all." She tilted her head. "And father had many... Mostly those of similiar mind. Maybe one or two females too."

The lioness looked to her paws, quieted.

"I just don't know where Ruffy is."

Cordero rolled over and crawled his way closer so he could look up at her eyes. "Need some help?" He paused. "I'm sure you'll find him. If you want something bad enough, it'll happen. You just got to grab at it." He nodded before he backed up and rose to his feet. "I'm sorry your father was like my grandfather... I'm glad you're free from him and I know that our brother will do everything he can to find you again." Cordero added, not sure if the lioness knew that she no longer had to be afraid. She was free.

"I don't want to trouble you, though?" Seito blinked, confused. "I just... Don't know what I'm doing."

She wasn't used to being alone. He was a curious male-- but she only rose slightly.

Cordero nodded. He actually didn't know how to help her to be honest. He had offered without really thinking. Which wasn't something he did often. Then again, he kinda got worked up about the whole slave thing. It still bothered him. "I think there is a pride to the east." He said, reminded of his mother that was heading east from where he last saw them, towards the Swampies. "Eventually you'll come across the 'Swampies' and they may be able to help you. Mother was heading there. So was I..." He trailed off. "I'm wandering the lands currently." He laughed. In all honesty, he had broken away because he himself wanted to be alone but he worried for Seito. He worried she would be taken advantage of like his mother, mostly. "Just... Just be careful." Cordero said a bit firmly, but not so that she would be afraid, just so that she would be sure to remember what he said.
