DRAYCEFRAGNIR ________________________▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬________________________▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ A lone teen had been wandering the town when something intriguing had caught his eye. Taped on the window of the town's restaurant was a flyer saying that help was wanted. Unaware of this new term, Drayce had got out his trinket that he had learned recently was called a "cellular device," or a "cell phone" as most called it. He quickly typed in what this term was, still learning his way around common terms. When he learned that the restaurant was in need of workers, he turned his phone off, placing it back into his pocket. Deciding that it was a good experience to have, and that he needed the money, Drayce walked into the restaurant. Seeing virtually no one there, he called out. "Hello?" He said curiously. He had a soft voice that held a dark raspy tone to it. The rasp was due to his lack of talking for most of his life. "I heard that you need some form of assistance with the restaurant. Like some... staff...? I would like to, um... apply for a job here." He saw that some of the other staff was looking at him as if he was a three-headed hydra, he looked away, making a face of complete disinterest. Drayce wasn't yet used to socializing, nor was he ready to truly talk to people and get to know them. As he waited for a response, he casually leaned against the wall, crossing his arms. Drayce tried his best to not catch anyone's eye by glancing around randomly, sometimes staring at the floor, and sometimes at the ceiling lights.

DRAYCEFRAGNIR ________________________▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬________________________▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ As soon as Drayce had properly applied for the job as a waiter, not only was he immediately hired, but he was also given an outfit to wear. He held up the bag which held his new uniform, looking into the contents inside. What a curious thing. He thought to himself. He looked back up, beginning to wander the restaurant until he found the bathroom. Drayce opened the door and went inside, locking it behind him. As soon as he was changed and out of the bathroom, he had been told to study the menu. With a small, arrogant grin, he sat down and began to examine it. He knew that he would easily memorize everything due to his impeccable sense of memory. When he was sure that he had memorized absolutely everything, Drayce thought that that was it. That he could begin. When he was told otherwise, that began to irritate him. As he stood outside the restaurant, he started grumbling to himself. He leaned against the wall and crossed his arms, mumbling, "Not only did I get tricked into about an hours work of memorizing some papers, but I had been tricked into completely wasting my time here." He continued on, continuing to mumble and grumble in his agitation.

My personality is who I am.. " .. You still learned something, right?" The voice was absent minded, yet somehow.. clearly directed at the mumbling boy as it drifted from somewhere to his left. A crinkling sound soon followed, as if in soft warning, before a slender hand appeared a short distance from his crossed arms.. offering a pale red apple to the boy. Attached to that arm a girl stood at his side, her other hand cradling a brown paper bag against her chest as she studied the stranger with a passive crystalline gaze. " .. Keep working hard."
Dressed in casual street wear the girl seemed perfectly at ease walking home from the market, the wind ruffling the rebellious strands of pale hair that had slipped out from under her hat as she waited for him to accept the apple.. her head tilting ever so slightly as if making it clear she wasn't going to explain her gift to him any more than her encouraging comment already had. It was a habit she'd picked up from her mother, something along the lines of 'positive reinforcement'.. From what little she'd heard walking by it was obvious he was agitated. One little apple wouldn't fix his problem, but perhaps receiving it would cheer him up.. or at the very least distract him with the oddness of the offer.
To be honest she'd just left the supermarket down the street, her paper bag filled with a wild range of fruits.. her idea of 'junk food'. What made this trove even more precious was the fact that they had her favorite type of apples in stock, pale red yet rich in flavor... One of which she was now offering to share with this tall stranger. Why? Well.. What other reason did she need aside from simply wanting to? From the looks of it he was likely one of the new employees, the 'Help Wanted' sign had been up for a while in the Restaurant window and from what she'd unintentionally overhead.. He was having a rough start. So she'd share a little of her good luck. .. My attitude depends on who you are.

DRAYCEFRAGNIR ________________________▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬________________________▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬As soon as Drayce heard another voice speak to him, he had gone quiet. He looked to his side to see a girl offering him an apple. What an odd form of encouragement. He thought as he carefully accepted the apple. Was this the way that humans tried to offer help? He looked down at the apple, examining its red color. It was obvious to him that this was the girl's way of positive reinforcement. Drayce was sure that if you'd look at the expression on his face, it was completely the same from what it usually is. Completely disinterested. But this time, he held a spark of interest within his eyes. Slowly, a small smile had started to appear on the boy's lips. He looked back at the girl. "Thank you. I had been told I had some form of a temper." Upon further examination of the girl, he could see clearly that she was one to offer help. Even though she gave off an odd air of... was that rebellion? Drayce stood away from the wall. He had no real interest of the apple, so, instead of eating it, he cleaned it for her, holding it back out. Fruit had never appeased anything for him before, he didn't expect it to start doing so now. "I'm... Drayce." It sounded as if he had trouble introducing himself. As if he wasn't entirely sure to trust the girl yet with any personal information of his. Especially his name. But, while he was having a war with himself, his own mouth had decided to start moving on its own. Drayce then pulled his "mask" of disinterest over his face again, just like his parents had taught him for years to do.

My personality is who I am.. Watching him take the small fruit it was difficult to tell just what he was thinking, Birdie lifting her now-free hand to grasp the bill of her hat.. pulling the firm material down until it successfully blocked the stray bits of sunlight that had managed to irritate her eyes. It was challenging enough to tell if her gift had helped without the sun throwing off her sight.. That stoic demeanor of his certainly hid it well, of course.. Until that small smile formed. Oddly enough that seemingly simple gesture managed to soften his features a great deal.. and Birdie realized she'd smiled back on impulse; The girl's lips curving up at the corner in a self-confident quirk in response to his words. 'Temper' was it.. she just couldn't picture this guy throwing a fit. Then again, they had only just met.. so who knew? Still from the way he explained it so calmly.. " I doubt it is entirely your fault, misunderstandings are bound to happen when you meet new people."
Noticing that he had started to move she took a small side step, giving the boy a comfortable space as he settled on his feet.. but she couldn't help a small blink of surprise as he offered the apple back. It wasn't the fact that he was giving it back, actually.. she was surprised he had introduced himself in such a way. That had actually sounded cute, hesitant yet impulsive.. Not at all what one would expect from such a aloof figure. But it was his way of speaking, rather than his expression, that had her attention now. He seemed to express more that way..
Ignoring the fruit he offered the girl reached out, her hand landing just above his wrist on his arm.. keeping her touch light as she answered his awkward introduction. " I'm Birdie, nice to meet you. The apple... keep it, never know when you'll need a peace offering right?" .. My attitude depends on who you are.

DRAYCEFRAGNIR ________________________▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬________________________▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬Upon further examination, Drayce could clearly see that she was examining him as much as he, her. Well... that was new. Never before had a human ever taken such an interest to him. That was, unless she was faking it, which was not something that he was keeping out of the picture. When Birdie had told him to keep the apple in case it would ever come in handy as a peace offering, he accidentally let out a small laugh. "Well, if I ever make any enemies, I'll be sure to give them this apple before anything ever happens. Maybe they'll be kind enough not to throw it at my head." Drayce said, the smile fading. Gently, though, he took her hand away from his wrist, making sure as to not appear rude. "Birdie, is it? I don't believe I've met someone with that name." He then ran a hand through his hair, letting the small smile return. "Birdie... I like it. It's unique."

My personality is who I am.. " Mm.. Wouldn't hurt to practice ducking, just in case Drayce." Birdie mused, the laughter in her tone genuine as the girl rocked back on her heels playfully. Ah so the guy could smile and laugh, to think she'd been worried about that stern face earlier. Clearly it didn't bother her when he brushed her touch aside; Birdie simply threading her arm around the paper bag to grasp her other elbow.. offering more support to her cargo as she cast the boy a side-long glance. " Of course you haven't, I'm the only 'me' as far as I know.. Though the name you can thank Mother for, she taught me to sing with a old musical favorite of hers."
As if catching herself from rambling too much the girl paused, the clear blue of her gaze darkening with a hint of gentle mirth before the expression was hidden under the thick fringe of her lashes.. Birdie keeping her eyes closed as she sighed softly. " .. Your own name is pretty unusual, it suits you. Are you a student as well?" It was a little intrusive to ask maybe, but from his earlier hesitation.. it was obvious he wasn't going to share too personal information with her. But it would be nice to know if she'd be bumping into him around the campus, he had a quick wit that admittedly earned a little of her respect. .. My attitude depends on who you are.

DRAYCEFRAGNIR ________________________▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬________________________▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬Drayce tilted his head slightly, watching as Birdie had begun to babble. He had begun to think that this girl was amusing. When she complimented his own name, he merely nodded as recognition of it. Naturally, though, upon her question, he looked away, sighing. "You mean to say am I student at the academy nearby...?" Drayce said, mostly to himself. He looked down at the apple still in his hand, frowning. He was fighting the war again to share more information about him. Deciding that it was inevitable, Drayce gave her a slight nod, face again reverting to it's natural disinterested mask. "I... am, actually." Replied he, speaking in the same tone of voice he had previously used to introduce himself. With a sudden spark of greed, he hid the apple from sight. With a small growl, he looked away. He tried to push it back, knowing that his draconic side would come out at any moment. With a sigh, he managed to control himself again and looked back at Birdie. That was one of the most random mood swings yet.

My personality is who I am.. Oh... Though she gave no physical sign of noticing his behavior, the girl's mind had started to turn with a mixture of curiosity.. and concern. Not for herself, it never crossed her mind that the boy might act out against her, but his expression just now.. seemed troubled. The fact that he'd had such a expression at all was warning enough, considering how aloof he usually looked. The red flags were there, certainly, but Birdie.. really was her mother's daughter.
Choosing to not point out his struggle the girl instead focused on something a little more basic, Birdie casting her gaze to the side.. as if casually studying something in that direction as she started to speak. " .. It doesn't hurt to be careful with information, you're cute enough and you seem reasonable so I doubt it would cause you too much trouble down the line.. " The paper bag crinkled as Birdie shifted her stance, one arm leaving the bag so she could instead brace her hand on her hip as the girl leveled a thoughtful stare back on the boy.. Perfectly serious as she continued. " .. but it can be hard to be friends if you do not relax a little Drayce, I'm not going to bite you." .. My attitude depends on who you are.

DRAYCEFRAGNIR ________________________▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬________________________▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬Drayce seemed to grin at the thought of the girl "biting" him. Was that another human term? If so, what did it mean? Drayce had a pretty good idea, but still, the thought had amused him. If anything, he would be the one to bite anyone. "Well, I certainly am glad that you aren't going to bite me, Birdie, because then I would have to pretend to be hurt." Drayce said, easing up as she had suggested. "Apologies, though, for concerning you. I had been raised as a dragon. Not as a human. I'm not the best with social interactions." He then waited patiently for her reaction to his not-so-subtle placement of words. He was, after all, starting to trust the girl. Even though he had just met her, he still felt as if she could be some sort of a friend to him. And that was something he seemed to desperately need, though he would never share it. Before any of that, though, he wanted her to know the danger of becoming his friend. He didn't want people to get hurt, because of him. Yet sometimes, he is completely unable to do anything about it.

My personality is who I am.. " Scoffing like that, you've obviously never been bit by a human.." With a haughty tilt of her chin Birdie gave a soft 'hmph'.. the girl closing her eyes as a hint of a smile worked its way back into her features. A Dragon.. Honestly she never would have guessed, but there wasn't a doubt in her mind that he was telling the truth as she peeked at the boy from under her lashes. No, he wasn't lying.. but he was warning her, clearly he didn't desire to cause her any harm. That.. really was enough for her to believe his good intentions.
Against her will Birdie felt her lips twitch, morphing into a rather confident grin as she reached up to grab the bill of her hat.. crystalline eyes glinting with a rebellious enthusiasm. " My risk to take, Ace.. ." As she spoke her arm relaxed, lowering.. until she held her hand out towards him, offering it without hesitation as she added calmly. " .. I'll watch your back, and I'll be trusting you to watch mine. We Humans can be pretty tough when we want to though, so don't worry." He wouldn't be responsible for her, she'd never allow a friend to feel guilt if she got hurt for them.. Because she picked her friends, and chose to protect them of her own will. .. My attitude depends on who you are. (( Forgive the nickname, fickle mood lol ))

DRAYCEFRAGNIR ________________________▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬________________________▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬Drayce rolled his eyes in a teasing manner when she haughtingly told him that obviously he had never been bit by a human. Either she was making a joke, or she truly didn't know how invulnerable to most everything he is. Either way, there was no doubt that Birdie had intrigued him. Honestly, though, he was surprised about her reaction towards his being draconic. Her reaction only made him even more intrigued. And hopeful. When she held out her hand towards him, Drayce eyed it for a moment or two. After a while, he started to reach his hand towards her own. But instead of grasping her palm, his hand ghosted past hers and grasped gently onto her forearm. "This is how my people show their trust." Drayce explained, the pupil's of his eyes lengthening in height, yet in width, they were becoming condensed. When his pupils had stopped shifting their form, they now resembled that of a reptile. "This is more of a symbol of a bond being made than a greeting, which it can also used for." Said he, trying to explain it further.

My personality is who I am.. Surprised by the boy's firm grip her own hand flexed.. curiosity filling the girl's expression as she slowly curled her fingers around his arm in return. " ..." This was his way.. Then she'd treat the gesture with the respect it deserved. Lifting her gaze to meet his she paused to study his eyes as they started to morph.. slanting into that of a snake.
A calm blink, and she realized that was wrong. Not a snake, even a human could tell the difference between the cunning tilt of a belly crawler and that pair of regal serpentine eyes watching her so intently. It didn't scare her, if only for the fact that she could feel how carefully he was holding her arm.. But in a rare moment of clarity Birdie understood exactly what she was dealing with and the danger behind that aloof mask of his. That awareness was no doubt reflected in her gaze, yet instead of acting wary it inspired something quite different from her. Respect.
After a moment the faintest hints of a blush seemed to tint Birdie's cheeks, the girl gently pulling her arm away as she turned to the side.. reaching up to pull at the bill of her hat in what was obviously a fidgeting habit as she kept her gaze on a stray leaf that crept across the street. Honestly she was really happy, as simple-minded as it was the girl was touched he took being her friend so seriously. " .. I like it, sort of like a Dragon-handshake but with pure meaning behind it. And with that.. you, my friend, are stuck with me. Afraid yet? " A short, playful glance slid his way to let him know she was teasing. To think, this all started with one little apple.. Just one more reason to enjoy them. .. My attitude depends on who you are.

DRAYCEFRAGNIR ________________________▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬________________________▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬Drayce chuckled, having noticed the blush on the girl's cheeks, but didn't say anything about it. He had often caught human's glancing at him and blushing as soon as he had purposefully made eye contact with them. Drayce had always found it an amusing sight to see. "If I were to be stuck with someone, then I'm glad it's you. You're kind; a trait that has long been forgotten from what I've known." Drayce said calmly, allowing himself to give her a somewhat lopsided smile. It seemed like it was on the verge of a grin, but never quite getting to that extent. He looked back at the bag of food she was holding, he had gotten an idea. "Would you like any help? You look as if the bag is inconveniencing you." Drayce said. The "dragon-handshake" that they had just performed was more like a ritual of bonding together. A way for dragons to know whether or not to trust the individual or not. For a brief moment of time, Drayce completely understood the way Birdie acted and why. It was merely for a couple seconds, and in that short amount of time, Drayce had decided wholeheartedly to trust this girl. "I don't have any more hours to do. I could carry that for you." He said, letting his more caring side show as his eyes returned back to normal. He didn't want to creep her out any further than his eyes might have already done.
