The days were steadily growing warmer and Tatiana had taken to spending the bright sunny days laying outside the den soaking in the rays that easily filtered through the bare boughs of the tree canopies. Her speckled tail beat gently on the ground causing some dust to unsettle and flit around in the air before settling somewhere else.
To say the femme was in a pleasant mood would be an understatment. She had spent the entire winter with Kovu and not a moment of it did she regret. Things couldn't have gotten any better but they had and Tat was near giddy about it, htough she was the only one who understood her pleasant attitude.
Turning her head so she could peer into the den Tat yipped for Kovu, wondering when he would join her. She wanted to be close to him and there he was hidden in the den!

"er... hello sunshine happy wooooo..."
Kovu emerged from the den, the midday sun finding its way into his half closed, sleepy eyes. The world SERIOUSLY had something against him napping. The tired wolf focused upon the giddy form of his mate, Tatiana, and he moved slowly toward her direction.
"You rang, dear?" He murmured, blinking sleep from his emerald eyes.

Tat chuckled as a sleepy eyes Kovu emerged from the den. Rolling over to face him she smiled sweetly. "It's such a wonderful day out today and you're going to waste it by napping inside the den." She tsked playfully while blue orbs glittered madly. Oh, Tat couldn't wait! But when would be th ebest time to let Kovu know...wait...would he even be ok with the news? Surely he would be! They were mates after all! But still, there was a tad bit of doubt in the beta's mind.
"At least if you lay out here you'll have a sleeping partner." She winked up at him but didn't budge from her position. She was quite content on the ground which had begun to thaw from the winters icy cold grip.

"Hm... sounds niceeeee..." Kovu smiled sleepily at Tatiana and finished the distance between them, lying down next to her. If there were any suggestive undertones in what Tatiana said, the male was far too out of it still to have detected them.
"It's a... a great day yep... yess..." He moved closer to Tat, sharing her body warmth as he lowered his head between his paws preparing to fall asleep a second time.
Yessss... pack life was good.

Tat adjusted herself so that her body was as close to Kovu's as possible. His scent calmed and soothed her causing the femme to sigh contently and rest her head on her front paws with all intentions of taking a nap. That was, until, a rather amusing but cruel idea sparked in her mind. It was apparent that Kovu was still half out of it and probably nearly back to sleep but Tat knew (well hoped) that there was one way to wake him fully.
Crawling along the ground she situated herself so that her head was laying on her mates neck and her maw was mere centimeters from his ears. She whuffed softly which caused the males ear to involuntarily twitch. A smiled spread across her maw before she whispered softly to him. "Kovu dear." A sly grin spread across her maw. "I am pregnant."
Blunt and straight to the point. Yep, what better way to jostle the slumbering male from the sandman's clutches?

Kovu was asleep as soon as his mahogany-hued head touched the ground. Tatiana's whisper of the shocking news didn't stir him, but rather, invaded his dreams that startled him to the point of his waking instead. Dark eyes immediately shot open and Kovu quickly lifted his head, not aware Tatiana was resting on his neck.
At last the wolf was truly awake.
"OH! Tatiana!" Kovu's heartbeat seemed to slow when he realized that he was back in reality, lying next to his beloved. He breathed a loud sigh of relief, a faint smile tugging at his lips. "I just had the WEIRDEST dream! You told me you were pregnant... and the next thing I knew there were babies exploding all over the den threatening to suffocate the both of us!
...so glad it was just a dream... I don't think I'd know WHAT I'd do if you actually were pregnant."

Tat had thought that Kovu had just simply not heard her so deciding to allow him to sleep she neslted her head in his neck fur and heaved a gentle sigh before her eyes fluttered closed. What seemed like a few brief moments of sleep Tat was jostled asleep at the abrupt motion of Kovu's head.
She nearly laughed at his description of his dream until her face fell dramatically to one of hurt before anger replaced her heartbroken feelings. With a growled Tat reached out and nupped one of his ears harshley before flying to her paws and walking away from him towards the waters edge which was only just through the trees. How DARE he! How could he say such a thing!? It took two to tango and now he practicully says he doesn't want puppies!
Tat was pissed.

"Wa--OWWW! What was that for?!!" Kovu rubbed his ear, unable to muffle the whine in his voice as he watched helplessly as Tat stormed away. What was the matter with her?! All the poor wolf said was that he didn't want pups, or rather, didn't think he was ready for them...
... so why would that make her mad?
It didn't take long for him to realize just was going on; Kovu's eyes widened and his pupils became dialated as he forced in a choked breath.
s**t. shitshitshitshitshit. was she really....?!!!
"T-T-TATIANA! WAIT!" Though still in a state of panic, Kovu quickly got to his feet, following his mate into the brush. Was this real? Was this still a dream? He'd found out soon enough.

((Note: This is after Lolita's trip to the freelands. >w< *this note is for my own references later!*))
He'd overheard the last half of that conversation, and much to Hige's credit, wasn't so stunned that he didn't make the connection right away.
So, it really came as no surprise when Hige stepped in as just what he was, an overprotective father coming to his daughter's defense! He'd been standing off to one side (having been coming by on his morning rounds to greet the pack members and see that everyone was alright and decide if they should perform a hunt for the pack or not.) when he heard Kovu's brilliant declaration... followed by Tatti's disappointed anger, and Kovu's stammering recovery.
The large mountain wolf now stood in Kovu's path giving the younger male a disapproving glare and sound much like a short growl. His vibes/look clearly said: "HOLD IT pal."
His actual verbal voice rang out clearly to be heard after that, turning his head to the direction his adopted daughter was going.
"Tatiana!"
Hige wanted definite facts.

If Tat hadn't been so furious with what had transpired she was sure she would have broken down in tears by the time she was out of sight of Kovu. His stammering yell didn't go unnoticed but she could not find it in herself to reply to it. No, she was just too furious that she was actually afraid of what she would say to her mate. It wasn't until a few short moments after Kovu's yell that her fathers caused her to pause.
A piece of her just screamed out to keep going to the water's side, to ignore whatever her father or mate may have to say, but Tat couldn't disobey her father, her ALPHA. Taking a deep breath she slowly turned and padded back to them.
Head low and tial dangling between her legs Tat was far from the proud Beta that roamed the South Seaside pack. No at that moment her heart was crushed and her emotions torn in so many ways she couldn't begin to piece them back together to make sense of them. Only giving the males a glance she made sure to sit several paces away head low and eyes downcast.

Hige? Where'd he come from?!
Kovu grimaced, but didn't back down and away from the massive, slightly imtimidating wolf. Regardless if Tatiana was his daughter, and if he was superior to the both of them, the matter of Tatiana being pregnant was none of his business.
...how Kovu saw it, anyway.
Dark eyes narrowed, following Hige's head as it moved toward his surrogate daughter. Kovu felt his fur beginning to bristle as he stepped foward, moving what would normally be considered dangerously close to Hige.
"Step aside." He growled, his voice sounding both caring and defiant.
Tatiana was all that mattered to him now. And if he had to step through his alpha to get to her, so be it.

Hige didn't look impressed by Kovu's demand, he wasn't the only one that cared about the rosary-pelted beta. Hige knew that Kovu had plenty right to be there, upset, but the way Hige saw it he also needed to remember that Hige was not only Tatti's father, but the alpha. It was Hige's responsibility to help keep the peace, especially when and if his betas were unable.
The older wolf shot a growl right back at the gamma, tail raising a little higher in case Kovu wanted a reminder.
"I won't. Watch yourself, Kovu." He spat. He'd accepted Kovu into these lands, and as Tatiana's own selected mate, but Hige wasn't about to roll over onto his side or back just because of that. "Say what you have to say with me here."

Tat was not impressed by either males. Her sorow quickly rose back into anger, her hormones were on the wildest rollercoasterride they had ever been through! She could not take this. Anger rising steadily she rose to her paws and padded right up to the two. "Stop it! Both of you! This isn't helping one bit!" She glared at both of them. At this point she cared little what rank either held. Right now they were just her father and mate, two males who appeared to be more interested in dominance then anything else.
"If you two can't settle down then just leave me alone! The last thing I need is the two of you doing...doing THIS!" With that she stormed off to the lake and did not stop for any of their yelling for her to return. She needed to calm down and sort through her raging emotions.

"Believe it or not, Tatiana's an adult now. Regardless of what you think, she doesn't need your constant protection..." Kovu refused to step down still, "that's what she has me for."
He watched helplessly as Tatiana stormed off, feeling more frustrated than ever: "Will you PLEASE just let me go and talk to her?!" Kovu looked back in Hige's direction, now sounding more desperate than anything.
"Quit being so stubborn, Tat!" He shouted past Hige, trying to reach his mate in any way possible. "Please... let me talk to you! Keeping this bottled up isn't going to help anyone!!"

Dammit, Hige knew that! He didn't need to hear it from Kovu, of all wolves! That just left a bitter taste in his mouth. Hige just growled again softly, but before he had a chance to consider speaking up again, Tatti interrupted with her outburst that left the alpha feeling blindsided and a little stupified. Hadn't she just been dejectedly upset??
"Tatti!" Hige called out, frustrated as well. Kovu's voice in his ears caused him to twitch them. Augh! fine, fine! If Tatti wouldn't talk to Hige NOW he'd just talk to her later. Kovu seemed to be in a more certain state of mind now, as much as it frustrated Hige to realize.... this was better for them to settle amonst themselves now. With a soft snort, Hige stepped back and turned, glowering. He needed to go hunt something down. "Set this right. I'll be back."
