)Yesterday (March 5), I finally got to see Les Miserables for the first time live, at the Forest Theater in Philadelphia.
My 8-year-old sister, Jackie, also saw it, and this was the first time she heard any of it.
When I was really little, like 3 or 4 or 5, my mom would put her Les Mis casette in (our car still played tapes) and I would always want to listen to 'Lovely Ladies'. I didn't really understand the words that well, and I didn't get what they were talking about. But I thought that that song was awesome.
Eventually we got a new car, when I was... 6, I think. So we didn't listen to it anymore. But this week, my mom made me lend my CD to the family (it's the original London cast recording- the one with Michael Ball heart ), and by this point in my life I know every word to every song and my friends think I'm crazy cause I talk about it a lot. Anyway. 'Lovely Ladies' comes on and my mom reminds me of how I loved it.
And I get embarassed, cause like, it's 'Lovely Ladies'... I'd been hogging my mom's 10th Anniversary Concert disc and I knew it was about whores.
And then my mom says that when my cousin (who's 22 now) thought that was the best song when my mom and dad would take her to see it when she was around 7.
So we go to see Les Mis yesterday, and I ask my sister *8* what her favorite song was, and she goes "'Lovely Ladies'"....
question
Has anyone else noticed how little girls like 'Lovely Ladies'?

I think it's because Lovely Ladies has a fun beat to it... it's a fun song! I got to be a whore when I was in Les Mis which was a LOAD of fun. Whoooo sluts!
The thign that amused me was when I saw it at a children's theatre they dried DEPERETLY to clean the lyrics up. It was hillarious!
"See 'em with their jacket's off they're never quite a grand."
"I hear women hear 'em in the air. Think I'll drope my anchor in that harbor over there. Lovely ladies hear 'em through the smoke. Seven days a sea can make you hungry for a joke. Even jokes need a little joke."
Etc. It was so funny. My favorite was in in At The End of the Day though... 'Take a look at his jacket you'll see where he stands!" Hahaha XD

Welll...I think everyone just likes the tempo and "upbeat" feel of Lovely Ladies. Hell, my dad was singing it and my mom and me were like: eek . Then we told him what the song was actually about and he was: eek .

Also, it's kind of true that little girls tend to like whores and sluts. Because they're "pretty." I mean, let's be honest, the prostitutes get pretty puffy long dresses and big hats! Some of the dresses are even SHINY!!! Little girls love that kind of stuff!
Also, that part is rather disney-like (other than the sex part xd ) The prostitutes are larger-than-life characters.

I was curious after reading this so today while I was in the car with my little brother and sister, I put in my Les Mis cd. When it got to Lovely Ladies they wanted me to play it over and over again! They epescially liked the part when the one guy says "I smell women smell 'em in the air!". Very interesting...

When I first listened to LM music my fave song was 'Do You Hear the People Sing?' I liked the march tune. All my little cousins love "Lovely Ladies' though. I'm just glad my uncle hasn't yet realized just how much I'm corrupting them.

When I was little, I loved it too! I asked my mom what it was about when I was 3 (I was raised with Les MIs), and she said she'd tell me when I was older....

Kids that are ten/eleven tend to like it because they've just learned the word "prostitute" and "the facts of life", and they find it VERY funny, I've noticed.

It was my favorite song, too...before I listened more closely to the words. It's one of the few upbeat songs in Les Mis (one of the others being Master of the House xd ), so people will tend to like it. It's catchy.

I was REALLY little when I first saw the 10th anniversary tape and didn't understand it at all, and I don't remember what my favorite song was, then I was going to go see it in 2nd grade, and my dad confiscated the video so I wouldn't remember the show when I saw it, and would get a fresh experience. The only song I remembered at the time was 'Who Am I' (my aunt asked me what my favorite song was because she thought I was familiar with the show) so I think that must've been one of my favorites. After I saw it, On My Own was my favorite... poor Ponine... Now I don't have a favorite because I love all the songs so much!

I think I liked it too, when I was younger. But I find it hard to remember much before I was thirteen. Repressed memories, I think. But now I can't stand it. It's probably the song I like the least. I don't know why. But I've always love Master of the House. Thenardier is probably my favorite singer, aside from Valjean and Javert.
