Just general Sabre discussion.

Well.. My fencing team's session is up.. But, I really don't want to be like.. Really out of shape.. ((And I can't afford to go to the club as of now... Need to earn around 50 bucks for it.. x.x)) So.. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can keep the speed up still? Oh. And there is a catch, I have really bad asthma (xD) and then this problem with my heart and dizzy spells. ( gonk ) So... What do you say? Should I just do foot work drills for 20-40 minutes a day or what? xD

Yeah! That's basically what I did last year-- I found a place where I did footwork all day and practiced flestching faster. Now my fencing has gotten ten times better; the only problem was that I practically lost my distance over the summer... well... what could be done about that??... unless you practice with someone. Anyway, the best recommendation I have is just joining a private club.

Mmm, that's what I'm trying to do...
My bf and I are going to join a club later this month and stick with it for most of the summer. (But he has baseball.. Soo.. Yeah.. And I'm going to Europe for a month.. x.x)
But footwork.. I keep trying to do it in my room (Because I have no where else todo it) but yea... xD Not enough room..
I'm thinking about going outside to the backyard to do it, but... xD The neighbors will think I'm even more insane then before. xD
It's all good though. :]

I know what you mean though about getting 10x better. I worked on my foot work a lot more this year, and all in all my fencing imporved so much.

Argh. My coach is trying to get us to learn flunge. I find it almost easy to do if I do it alone. But if I incorporate footwork I just can't do it. Anyone else have troubles like this?

I've had problems with that before....
On the other hand... We have this horrid thing called "The Clapping Drill"... Where one clap is change speed, two direction and three lunge. (We do this for a good 20 min...)
This drill actually helps me a lot... It's a great warm up too.. Maybe you should suggest it to your coaches?

Sabres are fun, I like their grips and a little extra protection on the fingers. Spears own all *aerie is mainly a spearman razz * but yeah. One thing that'd be cool on gaia, a loan program, where you get loaned the money from the bank and then you get the thing you want but you have to pay off the debt before you get anything else, it'd be kinda cool but I think some people would end up making extra accounts and stuff, another cool thing would to to buy the item now and pay for it in installments, or you get the item but you go into the negatives and every gold you get automatically brings you some up. Sorry, I had to say my piece, GO CHOY LEE FUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

....Right-o......
New thing I learned.... Hitting the person on the inside of the arm if you're a lefty and they're right handed. Hurts like a beast. Haha.

That does hurt...

I'm a pretty new sabrist (I've only been fencing since October with a one-month winter break crying ) A few practices ago (since we're a club), there were only two other sabrists there: my male captain, and another really really good member. I came away from that practice with three bruises, five welts, and one scab...all on my right arm.

I really really really need to learn to protect it more...

It may not be a matter of protecting but just learning to control yourself. When I was just learning my natural aggressive streak had me diving forward regardless of priority and it wasn't odd for me to be a mass of bruises by the end of a practice. Too much pressure one way or the other can cause good strokes to end up hitting off target.

The thing is, a good number of touches scored on me are on my right arm stressed I want to learn to fix this crying

hey, remember, u dont have to be the one to make the attack. advance forward and let them attack. u get the parry riposte and that gives u right of way lol. if ur opponent is like, an agressive monster, it works really well.

But then again, sabre is all agressive monster, isn't it... *dunce*

Aren't refs annoying? I was at a tourney a couple weekends back, and it was pissing me off: there was this lady who is usually an epee fencer, and she decides to coach sabre at a USFA tournament. She kept making bad calls, we kept correcting her, but she was steadfast in her belief that she was always right. We had tons of parents and coaches complaining. Argg. Complaining sabrists are so great...

Do you tend to argue with the director a lot? How do you complain?

I thinked a thought i thunked i remembered awhile go. Wouldn't it sometimes, if you're agressive, be good to dodge back a swipe and then striking against against the unbalanced opponent? (works in stick wars but i know stick wars and fencing are very different)

I'm not sure I understand what you're trying to say... do you mean like retreating and then doing a sort of flick to the wrist? or doing a pasata sotto/inquartata and then attacking into your opponent? confused question
