What's this little one doing out on her own, so far from family, so far from home~?Hello everyone! As you may or may not know, I am currently drowning in Kage babbins, and wanted to share the love! This little girl comes from a breeding between Mistfell and Troon, two Temporals- I've decided to keep her brother, but thought it'd be fun to give others a chance at a Temporal of their own. If you're interested in finding out more on how, read on!Starts: January 29th Ends: February 5th (exact time TBA)

So what do I do? Storytime The pinpricks of serrated teeth digging into her hide and sudden sensation of motion jerked the infant Kage out of a sound slumber. Freshly created of magic and intent, the last thing she could recall was curling up under the protective wing of her Temporal mothers; now she was being jerked roughly about, all darkness and confusion gripped in the maw of some beast, jostled with each step of its taloned paws thudding harshly against the ground. As she was carried away into the darker, tangled depths of the forest by she-knew-not-what, she could hear a Temporal's angry, screaming calls cutting through the night. Writing Prompt Somehow, a rogue Hell Kage has managed to pluck you straight from your mother's bosom, thieving you away into the night with unknown intent. Does it plan to eat you? Use you as a plaything before rending you piece by piece for fun? Or perhaps through some twisted and lonely mindset, raise you as its own? Describe what happens and what path your fate takes, because one thing is for sure- you are no longer with your family, and it's a harsh world out there for a small Kage to endure. Please post all entries in this thread! At the end of the contest, I'll be reading and picking out the one I like best. :> Feel free to make it as long or as short as you like; I'm curious to see what everyone comes up with! heart Entries: Capricorn Sunchai Kesmi Kazzmonkey

The screams. The screams. The tiny temporal could barely keep her head up in her half-sleep adrenaline fueled daze. She wriggled, but the sharp pricks of pain intensified. Whatever had grabbed her certainly was not letting go. In the growing distance the bellows and calls from her mother rang out into the dark. Anger. Desperation. She tried to call back. I'm here, I'm here...
The wind whipped at her ears. It should have been her learning the skies, not being hauled through the forest. The Hell suddenly stumbled and fell forward with a grunt, sending dirt spraying every which way. For a moment her eyes opened wide, hoping that this was her chance!- but after a few sloppy steps continued on. She wailed, the most pitiful sound; it was lost in the wind.
So there she hung for what seemed like eternity while her kidnapper ran. Her frail voice had screamed itself hoarse. She had barely noticed when the wind finally stopped, when her body touched the ground below. Her nose smelled pine needles and dry mulch. What was coming next? She was so certain she was going to become lunch. Any minute now she would be lifted again and-
A snuffle. Something just as large as what had stole her away came close suddenly; it was not the thief. A nose pushed against her tired little body, but she did not have the strength to even cry out for it to leave. More, smaller footsteps were heard then and suddenly paws and noses were pushing against her. She found the voice to squawk at them, finally opening her eyes and staring another young, distinctively Hell kage in the face. The baby balked and skittered, prancing away from her and behind what must have been its mother. Although the Temporal cringed away from her, it was not her who had carried her away from her parents; a larger male Hell stood some feet away, heaving for breath. Their coats were a silky blue-black, blending into the shadows with little effort.
"Ssshe's too light, how are we sssupposed to hide her like thisss?" the female hissed. The male cowed away from her.
"The other wasss white," he growled quietly, "And I almosst didn't make it out! Would you rather me have returned with nothing? That human took our other child, we cannot afford to be picky!"
His words seem to have struck a sore spot, as the female went quiet. The child temporal cried a single, wailing note as she moved close, lifting her off of the ground gently and bringing her towards what must have been their den. It was tucked between gnarled roots and stones and lined with cozy, warm moss.
The Hell mother plopped the baby into a pile of moss and lay down at the entrance, blocking the way out. The tiny Temporal cried again, finally curling to face the back of the cave. Periodically she let out a soft, pitiful sound. As frightened as she was, her aching body was warm. These strange kage had not eaten her yet. Until she grew larger, there was nothing that could be done unless someone came for her. Her belly rumbled quietly, empty.
She was going to be trapped for a long time.

Warmth, that's what the night lacked as the small blue Temporal realized as she snapped awake. Eyes barely opening a crack to stare into darkness, wind pressed against her face as she was taken from her mothers. A high pitched keel escaped her small maw, one that was lost within the silence of the forest. Where was she going? Who or what had taken her from her home, her family, her warmth! Tiny limbs pulled in closer to her chest and belly as her tail tucked itself between her paws. Swift paws carried her further away from the keeling screams of her mothers as they woke to find her gone, stolen right from under their noses, in the dead of night.
After a time, the fleet of feet slow as the Hell slowed to a near stop as it looked around, hot breath washed over her back and shoulders. The Temporal again chanced a peek at her surroundings, still not but darkness. Teeth released her as the Hell moved away for her, the Temporal curled up in her ball, ears twitching to listen to whatever she could hear. Foot steps, just one body was still around, her captor she supposed as it came closer again and breathed down at her.
"Get up you miserable cub." Came a voice that growled with demand, "Get up and show what others fear the most." The Temporal didn't move but curl up tighter and start to shake, she was cold and everything wasn't familiar in the least. The Hell growled and cuffed her with a paw, minding to not scratch her hide. The Hell moved to stand behind her, again nudging her to move,
"I said get up," the voice said once again with more force behind the demand. Body quaking with both fear and cold, the small Temporal pulled herself onto wobbly legs and staggered a step or two to one side before she sat down. Raising her head towards the sounds of the Hell, his footfalls sounded around her as he inspected his catch. "You will make a fine pet, one way or another." Growled the Hell as he sat himself to watch the cub.
The Temporal gave a keen keel as she scaggered forward towards the presence of warmth, the air of the night was getting colder. Turning her head up towards the Hell's face, she crept closer, pressing against his side. The Hell stood and danced to one side as the small bundle of cold rested against him.
"No! You are not resting against me." The Hell snapped, only to recieve another high pitched keel from the Temporal. "You have to learn to earn your rewards, no sleep until you have done something worth."
She didn't understand, anything that was happening around her. She wanted to just go home, sleep with her family, play with her brother. Grow up to be what she was meant to be. Laying on the ground, her cries dying to sobs, her body wracked with trembling. She wasn't going to last the night, she just knew it, it was too cold, she could feel it straight to her bones. Succoming to sleep, soft whimpers being the last out of her, the Hell grunted and moved closer. He had work to do to mold this Temporal into what he wanted, and he hated work. Laying close to the infant, he watched it, plotting.
Not my best. xD But a try.

Blu cried out for her mother. She could hear the frenzied calls getting further and further away as she was carried off by the unknown kage. She tried to wriggle free but the grip on her scruff only increased. Her desparate calls soon turned to terrified mewls. She was desparately tired but as soon as she began to nod off she was jostled again or the teeth would shift and she would once again be forced back to the reality of her situation.
She had no idea how long it was before she was released and flung to the ground. She fell with a hard thump and was dazed for a few moments. The fur on her scruff was damp with the kage's saliva and, she realized with horror, something red and sticky that came from the plafes that hurt the most. She fought the urge to close her eyes and instead focused on getting to her feet. She would wait for an opening and run back to her mother. They couldn't have gone far it had only been a few hours... or days... or years... Having not yet learned the concept of time she hadn't the faintest idea how long it had been. She tried to get a handle on the growing despair. On her own must be better than stuck with this unknown kage.
For the first time since being pried from her mother she was given the opportunity to see her kidnapper. The kage was completely unlike her mothers. The most striking difference was the distinct lack of wings. Blu had no idea what it could be but she didn't really need to. Whatever it was, it was bad news. The thing, it wasn't a kage certainly, said nothing. It was knealing next to a stream tearing through a rather large fish.
Blu's stomach rumbled. She squeaked and stared down at her tummy. She'd never felt so empty. What an odd and scary sensation. Her stomach growled again and she began to really let the weight of her situation hit her. The empty feeling in her tummy spread upward and became a lump in her throat. She choked on a quiet sob. She heard a harsh voice in her head so unlike her mothers', "Quiet." This only made her heart heavier. Her sobs grew and soon she could hardly breathe. Her stomach growls and frenzied were practically cacophonous in the still, quiet morning. She felt a slimy splat as fish hit her on her nose. The harsh voice came again, "I said quiet! Eat that and stop your whining."

Annnd this contest is officially over! Thanks you guys for entering; it was a lot of fun reading everyone's entries, and definitely a tough decision!
There were definitely things I enjoyed about each entry, both in descriptions/writing itself and the future character potential; in the end I've decided this little girl is going to be going home with Capricorn Sunchai. 3nodding Attention to tiny little details really sealed it for me; things like the wind in her face but not from flight, the way you described the Hell babies reacting to her, and the description of the den itself- not to mention, I'm very curious how she winds up adapting to being raised in a Hell family with siblings! heart
Kesmi, Kazz, I really enjoyed your entries too, and if I had more Temporal babbins you'd both definitely be getting one! <3 I really liked the idea of a Hell raising her to suit his own purposes and making her 'earn' her keep; and the idea of a baby having no concept of time, minutes or hours or years that she'd been separated really stood out to me as a great detail.
Thank you everyone for entering! biggrin
