((Brain is fuzzy at this late hour. crying Will think of a name for it later. As his tag says, daydreamer, stuck in his head a lot. xD )) TeepeesSayuri Nitta | Yumitoko General Location:Aawiusdi PlainsThis is an rp between Neve (Sayuri Nitta) and Akuba (Yumitoko), please do not post in this thread unless invited to do so. Thank you. ---------------------------------------------------- Akuba had been getting back into his old routine more recently, he'd get watch the sun rise every morning before anyone else was awake and take a stroll long the river bank. In his time of self-pity and depression he became sluggish, not even going out until late morning or mid day, sometimes not at all.
'Finally!' Thought Akuba as he stretched his achey old body, he certainly wasn't as young as he used to be and at times he felt he had nothing to show for it, deep down he knew this wasn't true. He had friends, even if they weren't close by anymore, knowing that people were still there for him even at a distance and that spring was on its way was all that mattered to him, usually he'd be all for cosy dark nights and dashing across untrodden snow but at times, he was the only one enjoying it. They'd huddle for warmth or stay under any sort of shelter while he'd be kicking snow around like a foal. No matter how old he grows, he knew that snow would alway bring him youth, even if it was temporary or all just in his head.
He sighed and shrugged off his thoughts,'at least I can see them soon? Ah, I dunno, maybe.' Only time could tell what this news year had in stall for him, for a while he felt stuck with no purpose so tried to create his own, he wasn't even sure if that had worked out yet either.
Akuba began his walk but this time away from the river and further into the plains. It wasn't often he'd venture too far from the river like he used to, in a way he missed it but the plains were now known to have many herds crossing it each year on their way to finding hotter or colder climates due to the season, and sometimes it was just to drink from the river by his home and when they arrived, well didn't he just know about it!

Neve had watched the sunrise that morning, watched as the life-giving yellow orb had first peeked over the horizon and then climbed steadily higher, pale and slightly warm sunlight washing over the frozen plain. She shivered from standing still in one place for too long, and started moving, her legs twinging with little flashes of prickling pain, as the movement sent warmth to cold limbs.
She was hungry now, though still in a pensive mood, wondering how her children, and indeed grand-children were faring. It had been a while since she had seen any of the sprawling, younger limbs of the family tree, though she knew eventually she would again.
When she had last spoken to Maharet and Marut, her oldest and second oldest daughters, they had talked long about the past, and especially Neve's current single status, urging her to move on, especially as they both thought slightly ill of Marius. Neve hadn't been inclined to think ill of him, and even though she could see the merits in finding someone to live out her years with, she would forever lock away in her heart the memories of her time with a stallion that had given her love and six wonderful children.
Her hooves had taken her to a patch of grass that the snow and frost had melted from. It was flattened, and unappetising, but in winter one couldn't be picky and so she grazed, ears flickering and head rising every now and then to look about for approaching Soquilis.

Akuba shuddered when a feeling of the tingling frost rested on his back, he squinted as the sun warmed his face – just a little – he would lean in closer to it's warmth if it was ever possible. He had begun to like the sun over the years a little more because his family and friends only really liked going out when it was warmer, although he had slowly began to adjust from his summer 'hibernation', earlier generations of his family still enjoyed the chill too.
Akuba had grown to feel quite alone in some respects because there were a lot of family he didn't get to see, some he wondered if they knew of his existence and if they did, what were they told. Amongst the family there was a split, he had to choose, this lead to bad things being said about him but his only intentions were to always do his best. Akuba was grateful for his experiences and for his children, all who were doing well as far as he had seen. Getting on in his years he had been feeling sad about having no-one to finally rest with, it was never his original intention to break up with anyone or not have a permanent mate, at one time it wasn't so important as such, it was raising his children, but now he had no-one to look after.
Akuba now waked carefully to make sure that he'd stay firmly on the ground and to slip, he still had some pride in his image after all. No-one wanted to be out at this time of day, not in these conditions but at times he would catch the early bird, whether they were nice or not that was another story, either way, any company interested him.
Akuba continued on carefully until he could see a figure in the distance, they stuck out amongst the frozen vegetation and patchy white ground. His ears pointed towards the stranger then flicked back in thought, he decided to continue his course onwards,'maybe I should say hello', he thought,'but would that be such a good idea?' He decided to leave that question to chance.
Before he knew it he was a lot closer to the figure which now appeared to be a wavy haired mare, he collected himself and he said in a calm voice,"hello." He knew it was not wise to advance from a direction he could not be seen or stand too close either, he hoped his breaking of the silence wouldn't annoy or scare her.

Neve swallowed the mouthful of grass she had been chewing on, licking a stray blade from one of her pointed canines and regarded the stallion silently before she answered.
'Hello.' she replied, quietly sizing him up, moving one front leg in a casual manner, bending it so that she could kick out at a moment's notice. He had a slight size advantage over her, but she felt confident in her ability to defend herself, and she could take to the wing if need be.
She wondered if he would speak more, or just go on his way. She hadn't exactly been welcoming, but she was sorely out of practice in speaking to strangers, and if he was found to be harmless, she figured there would be no harm exchanging some conversation.

In his younger days Aku would judge a book by it's cover with a quick glance. Over time he learnt that not everyone was what he'd initially judged them to be and so now in his current life he took greater care. He wasn't so quick to put people into categories anymore.
"I'm sorry to bother you. I don't normally bother strangers but my company is dwindling a little,"he frowned a little at the thought of decreasing company, he knew to some the thought of being alone was made up of pure joy, but he only found joy in the company he used to keep.
Staying inside by himself meant that his conversation skills were lacking and this meant that there was always a hit over nervousness which would try to creep out, but he wouldn't let it pass him without a little bit of an internal fight.
"I couldn't help but come over and say hello",Akuba looked at the mare who didn't seem impressed nor very welcoming but continued so as not to be impolite,"my name is …uh… Akuba." His eyes flickered to the flowers in her mane and smiled.

Neve tended to judge others by appearances; though that was more out of a survival instinct as appearances mattered. Visible traits that showed Kalona blood, or worse were to be paid attention to as they put her on guard and meant she could act quickly should she need to. But, she had reason for what could be seen as slight paranoia. From what she could see so far, she didn't have much to fear from this one, and she listened when he spoke.
'So your lack of company becomes my problem?' she replied, though her tone sounded faintly amused at the irony. Her pool of friends was slim indeed, and her social skills rusty.
'You might find yourself regretting the compulsion to do so. I have not sought company in a long time, and I am now prone to speaking rather bluntly.'
She nodded as he gave his name. Well, at least he had manners, even to her that was still important.
'Neve.' she replied, not sure if she would be able to carry a conversation, but she felt she should give him something for his efforts to be polite to her.

Akuba's brow furrowed, he'd never thought of it that way he was almost embarrassed, he looked back at her feeling sort of taken aback,"only if you see it that way."
Akuba raised a brow at her now seeming sort of concerned, he knew that blunt weapons and words were almost the most painful, but he wasn't really ever one to be around anyone as blunt as his daughter and old family members who had left a long time ago. The pain for him was too great to stay and it had ultimately broken his heart, definitely a gripe he'd hate to admit to.
He smiled,"then would it help if I didn't speak at all?" It'd save her having to say anything at all,"Neve. Thank you",Akuba nodded, he'd usually have a go at saying people's names no matter how simple or complex their name was, it was always a good way for him to remember.
Akuba couldn't to help but occasionally rest his eyes on her purple striped sock markings and the almost symbolic markings on her neck, soon after he realised he was staring and awkwardly took a few steps to the side to make sure the cold didn't start to rust his joints together and nuzzled at the snow to reveal more frozen ground. As much as he liked the colder climates he always hated when even the most simple source of food had frozen over. He sighed and moved onto another spot,"this is why I store things for the winter", he grumbled.
Even then things perished before him or his family were able to eat it, in a way he was thankful that none of his children were born in the winter, he wasn't so sure they'd survive at all.

'I might if I felt like doing so.' Neve admitted. She knew that once upon a time she had been better than this with strangers, and he didn't deserve the cold front she was presenting, though it was hard to remember how friendly and easy to talk to she had once been.
'Probably not, then I would believe that I had offended you (which I may have done), and taken myself away, hoping that next I met with a stranger I would behave as I should do..or once would have done.' she caught his eye, catching the fact that he was giving her a close look and smiled to herself when he looked away again.
'Like a squirrel?' she asked, rustling her wings with a little amusement, having caught the words that he had grumbled.
'There are ways to get food, but it involves reliance on others, and so I don't do it often.' the mare said. 'The two-leggers have food stores and will share it out during harsher winters.'

Akuba listened to her words and wondered how she believes she should behave, he smirked,"it's alright, by now I should have a thicker skin, but to be honest I don't. Still, there is no proper way for you to act, you're just acting however your want and that's is fine." He didn't know how she really felt about strangers or what she may have been a little prejudice against but to him it didn't really matter, for all he knew he may not even see her again.
He believed upon first appearances a person had the power to paint a picture of themselves anyways they wanted. When Neve suggested his methods of living were like that of a small roadent he chucked,"well, I never thought of it like that but I guess you could say so."
Akuba stared at the mare intensely,"I understand that but they can he terrible creatures",he exhaled,"yes maybe not as bad as the worst of us, but they are opportunists." He huffed,"they take advantage of us, even if they wouldn't like to admit it." He knew some soquili were willing to help people, (he saw it as a form of stockholme syndrome, or possibly it was all they'd ever known) but others were not as willing and they had no way of voicing things but through actions.
"I do not rely on others for things like that", he shook his head in disgust, but he didn't mind others relying on him.

'Actually there is, or as I believe I am supposed to. Your behaviour doesn't warrant my being rude to you. My lack of being social over the past months, maybe even longer, have led to my not being able to converse with a stranger as I should.' Neve said.
'Well, your behaviour could lead to that comparison, but I don't see a bushy tail, so I guess I cannot really compare you to a squirrel.' she continued, still slightly amused, her head canting to one side as she imagined him with said bushy tail.
Neve was slightly confused by his tone; she had never had any negative dealings with them, and so was curious as to why he seemed so hostile.
'What problems have you had that leads you to say that about them?'

"I see", Akuba shrugged at her comments, he had become a hermit for the past few years and only spoke to his children when they cared to visit or talk and so talking to strangers was always awkward for him now. Too many old memories hanging in the air had made the atmosphere around him very stale.
Akuba's head whipped round to look at his tail and wagged it up and down a few times,"nah, no bushiness here I'm afraid." Akuba's tail would always trail behind him like a silk curtain, beautiful in it's own way but needed so much maintanence that sometimes he had considered cutting it by a considerable length, he was not the confident and dare he say slightly vain young stallion he used to be. For him everything was about practicality now.
Akuba's ears perked at Neves question and his eyes dialated when the memories came back,"When I was young I was naïve. I am not from here, I was brought here", he paused,"I befriended a young two-legger who showed me to his family one day. They took me, made me work and then sold me on to another family",he huffed,"I was happy to work. For that family. I still thought..well I thought I still had my own freedom. Aparently not." He knew in his mind it was not worth moaning about anymore. It was not like he had any family he knew of back then.
His eyes squinted and nostrils flared,"tough task masters were the second lot of two-leggers. I just had to get out. I wanted my freedom, and I wanted it without a broken back", Akuba spoke flatly,"they think they can catch us and break us in. This is why I have cautioned my children." His story was not something he often spoke about not even to his children but he would always try to make sure they were safe.
Akuba cracked an almost sinister smile and said,"fools learn".

'Very true.' Neve said with a short nod of assent, watching him as he examined his tail.
'No bushiness there, just length.' she flicked her own curls and waves that made up her tail, dislodging a petal from one of the flowers that was tucked there, which drifted to the floor.
'I think of the two of us, mine is closer..so maybe I should be the squirrel.' she said, chuckling faintly, attempting to be amusing, though she was sorely out of practice in that as well.
A brow raised at his tone, though from what he said, she could well understand why he mistrusted them.
'A hard lesson to learn as well.' she said, adding; 'Though one I have not had to learn. I have been fortunate to know the best of their kind, a female who has been unstinting in her help and kindness when it was needed of her. But, it would be naive to think that there wasn't cruelty amongst the two-legged ones, the same as there are cruel and dangerous Soquili. So I have no reason to disbelieve what you say, just sympathise that you had to go through it.'
