Alam
. . . . . . .
Alam is the largest city in Mesa and is also the capitol city. The city itself is located in the middle of an island and it is rumored that there are underwater tunnels that lead to and from here. The only ones who can use these tunnels would be Water Elementals.
Most of Mesa’s trade passes through this city due to the large population of people and the location of the island itself. It is also the home to all of Mesa’s royalty and because of that, many who live here are centered around status.
The main castle sits on top of a large hill in the heart of the city. It is here that the King and Queen of Mesa live with their children. Other, smaller castles surround the main one where other high ranking royals live. Peasants live along the outside edge of Alam. Many hospitals and clinics lie between the peasants quarters and the royal castles.
Along the outside edge of the island is a large wall that protects Alam from attacks and the occasional flooding.

Sienna ran over to the balcony off the side of her room. She loved this time of day. Swiftly she flung open the glass doors and ran over to the railing. From here you could see the boats coming in on the tide, bringing various goods to the people to trade. What she looked forward to the most was the sails on the ships. They were huge and varied in colors and sizes. "Its so pretty!" She exclaimed, giggling to herself. She sighed and rested her elbows on the rail and her face on her hands as she watched the boats drift by. When the last of them reached the docks she turned to head back into her room, closing the doors and pulling the curtains. She then opened her wardrobe and dislodged the bottom panel to reveal a new set of clothes. She pulled them out, put them on, and rubbed a stark teal eyeshadow over both lids before she turned to look in the mirror. 'Almost there' She pulled down her pigtails and the transformation was complete.Kye turned away from the mirror and walked back out to the balcony. Down the side over the years she had worn away the stones to create suitable hand and footholds. With little caution, she slid over the edge and crept down until her feet were on the ground. This was always the tricky part, trying to blend in with the crowd. She ran quickly, following the edge of the castle until she could see the road that led to the city. It was always this time of day when the traders made their way up to the castle gates trying to sell their goods. The guards were overwhelmed with people shoving and pushing, trying to make their way onto the castle grounds. She laughed and ran into the crowd securing her path to freedom.

Kye made her way through the city till she reached a large building designated as a hospital that rested in between the nobility and peasants quarters. Quickly she entered the building and grabbed the simple zip up dress that was the uniform here and laid her hat down in it's place. After changing her clothes, she braided her hair straight down in the back and walked into her first patients room. "Hello there sir, what seems to be the problem?" This was the customary first question that doctors asked their patients. Typically they already knew what was wrong or could at least point them in the right direction. If they had no idea, she would skip into a list of questions that would narrow down the problem area. The man simply pointed to his back and grimaced. She nodded, "Could you please take off your shirt and lie down on your stomach. This shouldn't take long at all." She gave an encouraging smile and the man did has he was told. She walked over to the counter where a bowl of water was placed. After going through her cabinet and locating the right powder, she poured a small amount in and mixed it with her hand. 'This should do nicely.'
After years of training, she knew exactly how to heal any kind of affliction with the proper herbs and water. Water was a healing element, so of course she could fix someone with just that, but the pain would return if not treated with some other source as well. She brought the concoction over and sat the bowl down, placing her hands above it. Slowly the water moved up and onto the mans back, hovering over the spot he had pointed out. She could tell it was working from the audible sigh of relief he gave.
After about 5 minutes she put the water back in the bowl and told the man to be on his way and should the pain return, he should come back immediately. He thanked her and walked out the door leaving her to herself. 'This is what I live for. Making people happier and healthier. Why can't my parents understand that.'

Kye moved about the hospital, her hands moving about almost without thought. She'd done this many times, so it was now just a reflex. Healing was her second nature. She looked out one of the windows and noticed the sun was starting to go down. 'What!? How long have I been here!?' What she knew for sure what that she had been too long. She rushed past a nurse quickly saying that she had to go and ran to get her clothes. She changed in record time and ran out the front doors. It was probably around dinner time back at the castle. They would probably be wondering where she was and she could only hope no one had made it up to her room to look for her. She ran through the streets, taking the back allies. If she was found missing, guards would be crawling everywhere on high alert. She wouldn't be able to make it back in for sure, and if she was caught, her parents would lock her up for the rest of her life.

Kye rounded a corner to find a mob of guards preparing to head out into the city. They were literally everywhere. About every two feet there was another guard searching the area surround the castle. There was no way she would be able to sneak around them to save her life. She wished right about now that that statement wasn't so literal. 'Okay, so obviously you're screwed. Now on to Plan B.' Plan B. Plan B. What the heck was Plan B? How was she supposed to know?! She never really had the time to come up with 'what if' scenarios when she was stuck in Sienna's head. Quickly she backed up into the alley she sprang from and pushed her body up against the wall. 'Okay, first things first. Calm down.' She took a giant breath in and let it out slowly. There wasn't time for this. 'Step two. Think while moving away from the scene of the crime.' She turned back the way she came and began running. Even though she was in disguise, the moment the alert went out, they would be looking for anyone who even resembled her.
As she ran she began thinking of places she could go. 'I can't stay here. The guards will have covered the entire city by nightfall. After that they will extend the search to the nearest cities and so on until they cover all of Mesa, which won't take long if they send word to the forces in the surrounding cities that Sienna is missing.' She paused her train of thought, not liking where it was taking her. 'I'll have to leave the nation.' Her heart sunk at the thought, but the alternative was to give herself up and never be allowed to practice healing again. All she could be after that was a figure head for the people to look up to. 'I guess that was always to be my destiny... even if what I was doing was prolonging the inevitable.' She shook her head not allowing such thinking at a time like this. 'Whose to say Sienna is my true self? After all she was nothing but a creation to keep the King and Queen happy. Maybe this is my chance, to free myself from her and finally become who I always was meant to be.' After all, every nation could use a good doctor. She could go anywhere. Her options were endless.

Lilas Fedt It was the same old day, nothing different than the day before, or the day before that. It never bothered Lilas though, she did her work and always did it with a smile on her face. If not people would think she was an imposter. As the small blonde haired girl made her way down the long, stone, hallways she smiled at the other chambermaids as she passed, in her hands holding a basket of clean linen for Princess Sienna's room. Reaching her destination, with very little interaction from the rest of the help she placed the basket on her hip, knocking gently to let the princess know she was coming in. Opening the door she looked around the room, expecting to see her friend there, but only saw nothing. Quickly rushing in she closed the door behind her, setting the basket on the bed, letting out a small, soft, laugh. "I see you are out and about today, princess. Or should I say Kye?" With another laugh she started going through the linens, stripping the bed of the old ones and putting the new clean ones on them. It didn't take her long to finish her duties, placing the dirty linen in the basket. Looking around the room again she left, going to wash what she had just changed.
---
It was several hours later when Lilas returned to Sienna's room, expecting to find her there since it was already getting dark. It is frowned upon for a chambermaid to be in someone's room so late without being requested so she had to sneak there. Of course, she had done it so often that she had become and expert at it. Quietly closing the door behind her she expected to see the light on in the room, and her friend waiting for her. Instead found no light, and no princess. Instantly she started to panic, running to the window trying to catch the slightest glimpse of her, but to no avail. "Oh, Sienna....Kye, where are you?" The girl paced the room for what felt like hours, but was only minutes, twirling and fidgeting with her hair. When almost 15 minutes had passed and there was still no Sienna Lilas knew she had to go look for her. The guards were out and she was positive the princess was stuck out there, unable to get back in the castle.
With haste she left the room, running into a guard on her way out. "What are you doing in the princess' chambers at this time?" For a brief moment Lilas froze, panicked, but quickly collected herself. "The princess called for me. It appears she is ill and requested some fresh linen for later. She asked me to make sure no one disturbed her." The guard had nothing but skepticism on his face, but he briskly nodded, walking away, leaving Lilas heaving a heavy sigh of relief. Wasting no time she headed to her quarters, fetching her robe and left the castle. There were guards everywhere, but they paid very little attention to her, she was of no importance and clearly posed no threat to them. This allowed her to move quickly and search thoroughly. It didn't take long for her to find Sienna, hiding where the guards couldn't see her. Relived she quickly ran over to her, hugging her tightly. "Where have you been!? I managed to keep the guards out of your room for the time being, but it wont be long until they check in on you. We need to get you back to the palace." With that she took of her robe offering it to Sienna/Kye to put on so no one would notice her.

Kye almost screamed when Lilas came out of seemingly no where. Her adrenaline levels were much too high to handle even small disturbances. Though once she was over the initial scare, she melted into relief and embraced her friend back. She wouldn't have to go alone. She would have Lilas with her! But that train of thought halted once Lilas began to tell her that the guards had not found her missing yet. 'Then why are there so many? Are there always this many guards crawling everywhere this late at night.' It was certainly possible since crime tends to rise as the sun goes down, and the guards were always preoccupied at the castle most of the morning and afternoon. Though she wasn't sure what to do now. Just a moment ago she had set her resolve to run away. It had all made sense, but now things were different. She could go back. She should go back, if for no other reason than to think before she made such an important decision.
She reached out and took Lilas' robe from her and slipped it over her shoulders. "Thank you for coming to find me. I didn't know if I would be able to get back in. Seems I stayed too late today." She could hear Sienna slipping into her voice, trying to take over whenever she was saying one thing, but thinking another. She knew Lilas would probably notice, but hopefully wouldn't bring it up until they reached her room. Now was not the time to discuss going rogue. She would wait, bide her time, think it over. Positives versus Negatives. "Let's get going, as you said, we don't have much time." There, Sienna was gone for the time being. She should stay gone. She's weak. Quickly she turned back towards the castle, pulling the robe tighter around her body and her hat over her eyes.

Lilas Fedt Lilas laughed a bit as she startled Kye, quickly covering her mouth from laughing too loud. She wasn't laughing cause she thought it was funny, but because she didn't know how else to react when scaring someone. "Sorry!" She said it in a low whisper, trying not to draw any attention to the two of them. She could see a quizzical look on the princess' face, but couldn't place why. As Kye spoke she briskly nodded her head, giving her a warm smile. "I'm glad I found you before any of the guards did but...." Stopping her train of thought she pursed her lip, erasing her usual smile. She thought about how to describe the situation back at the castle. Bringing her hand up to her chin she thought, trying to figure out the best words she could think of, since she normally wasn't good with explaining things. The best thing was to go right at it, besides she could be worrying about a whole lot of nothing.
"Well...before I left to look for you there was a lot of commotion going on at the castle. I'm not sure what, it was just a bunch of loud talking, but I couldn't catch a word they were saying." Laughing lightly she ran her hand through her hair, messing with the bit that hung by her ears as she normally did when she thought. "There is a lot more guards at the palace too, more than I've ever seen. If we're going back there we have to be more careful than usual. Right now they're not worried about you, but I'm not sure what's going on." As Kye turned towards the castle, hiding herself beneath her robe, Lilas returned to her usual cheery self, even though she was slightly worried and a bit confused at the whole situation.

As Kye stood there listening to the situation at the castle, she could feel panic creeping slowly back into her mind. More guards were never a good thing. It seemed she'd been right about that then. She bit her lip, deliberating on her next move. It was going to be tricky to get back into the castle, but if they weren't focused on looking for Sienna and distracted by something else... it could be doable. "Alright, the plan is to stay as undetectable as possible. If we're going to do this, then its got to be now. The longer we wait, the worse it will get. Once we're back and I have time to get changed, I'll see what's going on." She swallowed hard before adding in the last bit. "If its serious then I'll probably have to stay there for awhile till things get sorted out." There really wasn't any other option. If she was going to go back, she had to be a lot more careful, and that meant no sneaking about till things calmed down. She took a deep breath and began walking towards the castle. "Stay with me until we get close, then I want you to go in like you normally would. There's no need for you to get caught sneaking me back in. It would be a shame to lose the best maid I've got." She turned and smiled at Lilas, trying to make the situation less serious than it already was. Besides, with the sun going down, long shadows were extending out from everywhere. She could stick to those and possibly get back in through her window if she was very careful. Trying to go through the main part of the castle would require running into many different people who had seen her face probably everyday of their lives. Someone would be bound to recognize her.

Aidan Norman Serpent Warrior of Mesa "Your all doing it wrong..." Aidan groaned for the tenth time. He continued to watch the other unit of soldiers struggle with the technique Aidan had been trying to teach them for the whole day. It wasn't a simple lesson nor a hard one either. He extended his arm out and concentrated enough to lift three large balls of water in the air and had them orbit around him. Mastering this small technique could allow you to gather more water and cover extra blind spots for whatever purpose. Wasn't the best skill but even so could save your life if needed. Seeing they continued to struggle once more he just let another sigh escape him. "Well continue this tomorrow. Rest for today then be ready in the morning." As they all left tired Aidan decided to walk around the city. He's been ordered to train the next set of units but at this rate he doubt he'd be fast enough to have these new guys ready. He wasn't the best instructor but was better than some at least. In a couple of days he'd be leaving soon but he wasn't sure where yet. Another yet complicated task but he'd see where things would go. Walking towards the large castle something caught his eye. From a distance he could see two woman that seemed a little suspicious. Trying to eye closer he raised an eyebrow, unsure if he believed it was who he think it was. "The princess?" What would she be here for if it was her? He had never seen the princess up close before but he was most likely positive they'd want her inside the castle. Then again it must sucked to be locked up in there doing who knows what. Should he do the right thing and bring her back? Or leave her be? He felt the need to follow and see what goes on. He slowly eased towards them, hoping he could at least be sneaky.

Kye began her journey towards the castle alone. She knew Lilas would be alright without her. Quickly she walked towards her home keeping her head down, but also trying to look like she belonged there, which was hard considering she didn't want to stand out. From her experience though, the ones that stood out were the ones acting suspicious, so she tried to find a nice balance of sneaking/not sneaking. 'Oh boy I'm going to be spotted for sure.' She took a deep breath and gathered up her confidence as she slipped into the shadows around the edge of the giant structure. Once there if she was spotted, confident or not, she would look suspicious. She then picked up her pace, and prayed she could make it back to the window in time.

Somehow Kye had manged to scale the side of the castle without anyone noticing, at least none that she knew of. Turning around she closed and latched the window behind her before quickly redressing into Sienna's attire and pulling her hair back into it's usual pigtails. She then stopped for a moment expecting the mental switch that usually took place when she did this, however nothing happened. "Sienna? It's you turn.' She continued to stand there waiting, but still nothing happened. Sienna was silent. Something like this had never happened before. She then began to panic. She didn't want to be stuck here, dressed as some girl she never even liked. Sienna was the part of her that was an actress, not her. Could she even pull it off?
Suddenly there was a knock at the door and a servant popped their head in to let her know dinner was ready. She gave a silent nod before following them out the door and down the hallway. 'Please please come back! Where are you!? Take over!' She continued with these thoughts all the way to the dining hall where her parents were already sitting. As she entered the room, her father looked up from his meal at her with a kind smile, "Hello Sienna, how was your day?" Kye's palms began to sweat, but she quickly said, "Fine." and sat down hoping they wouldn't notice her sudden personality change. The King eyed her a little, but seemed to accept the response from her and go back to his meal. She let out a small sigh of relief and proceeded to let her self appear to be extremely interested in the meal that was in front of her.

After days and weeks had passed since her almost disastrous sneak out, Kye had not left the castle. She assumed those at her work probably thought she up and moved, or maybe even just fell off the face of the earth since there was really no way to contact them. She had also not really been leaving her room unless the King or Queen forced her to. The reason being was that Sienna had been harder and harder to recover since that day. No longer could she pull her out at will, but sometimes she would just take over and then disappear just as fast. It was something like that she couldn't risk having happen while sneaking around. Plus as she was who she considered her normal self, Kye, most of the time, she had no interest in involving herself in anything the castle had to offer. It was all so boring and not to mention incredible frustrating. She was expected to marry and lead this country one day. To pass on her genes of the original water elemental to those of her children and continue their bloodline, and sometimes that's all she felt she was good for.
Currently she sat at her windowsill and looked out at the city and sea surrounding the place. If given the chance she would throw this whole life away in a heart beat. Go exploring the all the nations, train under the most skilled of doctors, help people at a personal level rather than an authoritative one. Suddenly there was a knock at her door, and a maid came in holding a note, which they placed on her bedside table and left. The maids never made friendly conversation with her anymore. It made her wonder about what had happened to Lilas. She hadn't seen her since that day and her parents refused to tell her anything.
Slowly, she lifted herself up and dragged her body over to her bed, throwing herself on the plush mattress and grabbed the note. Upon opening it and reading it's contents she cringed, and then panicked a little. Her father required her presence at the annual celebration in Dunia that was coming up in the next few days. Normally this was something he would have brought up over dinner, but Kye had been, well, not the daughter he was used to as of lately and a slight rift had formed between them. He obviously didn't know how to approach her in person about it, so left it to paper to explain. She sighed and crumbled the paper tossing it across the room. 'It'll be fine. This is a social event. If Sienna will come out to play then it will just make things easier.' She took a deep breath and forced herself to sit up. 'You've got this.'

After returning home from Dunia, the castle had constant activity, though nothing that Kye was allowed to be involved in. The only thing she was allowed to be occupied with was the female social gatherings with her mother, which were incredibly boring. Though she knew from being even slightly observant that her father was up to something. There were constant guards and messengers rushing all over the castle, even sometimes rather late at night. She knew it had to do something with the party that went wrong, but she had yet to actually figure out what he was planning, and of course no one was going to tell her. If she wanted to know, she'd have to figure it out herself.
There was also the matter of figuring out who that guy from the party was. When sitting and having conversations with the other ladies of nobility, she couldn't help but let her attention fall on the one whom he was describing. The Duchess didn't seem to have changed demeanor at all since returning, so she wasn't sure if he actually made contact, but the more time that went by, the more confident that she felt about him not coming to murder her. That was certainly a relief. Still, that whole situation was so bizarre, she couldn't help but feel drawn to discovering it's secrets. One night she tried to slip into the library to maybe look up records on the Duchess, but official looking military men had set up shop in there, and didn't seem to be leaving anytime soon, so that plan was busted.
Currently, Kye was on her way to meet with her parents. Her father after these last few crazy days apparently wanted to speak with her. About what, she had no clue, but maybe he would finally let her know what was going on, but that was probably wishful thinking. Creaking open the door to his study, she found him sitting there discussing something with her mother quietly under his breath, and the moment she entered the room, he stopped to look up at her with a big welcoming smile like he always did. She couldn't help but smile back at his goofy grin that he reserved for his immediate family.

Eamon Reagan King of Mesa ----------------------------------------------------- Eamon turned his attention from his wife to that of his daughter as she entered the room. He gave her a wide smile, which she returned before he addressed her. "Sienna! Sit down, we have some things to discuss." His tone was light and cheerful, though Sondra eyed him nervously as Sienna pushed back the chair and sat down. He knew she hated discussing matters of conflict, especially with their daughter, but this was unavoidable. They couldn't keep her in the dark forever, especially not if they wanted to protect her. Once she was settled he began his speech, not wanting to waste time. "As you already know, what happened at the party in Dunia was no accident, and whoever was responsible got away." He watched her reaction closely as he spoke, hoping not to scare her. She seemed to be handling the news well, so he kept going. "Currently we are unsure as to who was behind the attack, but my men are doing their very best to track them. Our best guess at the moment would be that Aria is somehow involved, but nothing can be proven just yet. Just know that all from Aria who worked in this castle have been removed for the time being." He didn't want to reveal too much about what him and his men were up to, just make sure that she was aware so that if she spotted an Arian within the castle walls, she would avoid them knowing they weren't supposed to be there.
He continued on, "Because we don't know who was behind the attack, nor if they plan to follow up, your mother and I have decided it would be best to place a couple of our military personnel on you at all times, just to be safe. I know you might see this as an invasion of privacy, but it's a necessary evil, at least for the time being. I will also be upping the amount of military we have in and around the castle for safeties sake." He paused, smiling gently at both Sienna and Sondra, "My goal is to keep you both safe through this whole ordeal and I hope to have some answers soon, but until then I don't want either of you to worry. Just go about things as you normally would. I just wanted you to be aware of the changes that would be going on." Once he was finished, he sighed and leaned back in his chair, stretching a bit. It had been a long day indeed. "Well that's about all I had to discuss, so if you ladies would excuse me, I have other things to attend to." He stood up from his chair and made his way over to the door, "Sienna, if you have any other questions, feel free to ask your mother. She knows most of the important details." With that he made his way out of the room to take care of his plans for the coming days.
