Tony and Steve had been fighting crime so to speak for a few years before things went wrong. The two had started when they were still in school. They taught themselves how to fight and used that skill to protect the other students from bullies. When they finished school they decided to amp it up. Petty burglaries and vandalism were the majority of what they attempted the thwart.

"You sure about this Tony?" Steve peeked around the corner of the building. They were hiding in the alley hoping to stop an illicit deal that they'd heard about. Someone was planning to pay a mage to bring someone back as a demon. They hoped to stop the deal by stopping the payment.

"Don't worry about it. Have a little faith. It will work." Tony smiled in a way that always encouraged Steve. They had been working on a plan since they heard about the details of the payment. It was supposed to be very covert. The buyer would stay at the Dragon's Beard inn, a cultist messenger was to arrive to receive the payment and give the buyer more details on what was going to happen. Tony had been tipped off by one of his more secretive contacts. Steve didn't trust him, he seemed squirrely and he knew an awful lot about the crime underworld. That being said, the cultists had done so many horrible things in the past, Tony believed that if they could stop this, at least that would mean one less chance of things going wrong. Steve couldn't argue with that.

"Alright Tony, Ready? Three... Two... One." Steve was about to open the window to the Dragon's Beard hallway when he heard a scuffle behind him. "Tony?" Steve turned and saw Tony held from behind with a hand over his mouth. Steve started toward him to help, but another man dropped from the roof between them. They had trained themselves and each other, but they were no match for these two.

Steve was thrown against the wall, his head slammed against it before he slid to the ground. Ears ringing, ribs probably cracked possibly broken, and having difficulty seeing out of his left eye Steve wondered what the hell happened. He chanced a look at Tony who seemed to be in a similar state. When their eyes met, Tony must have found new spirit. Tony swung his leg around and caught Steve's attacker in the small of his back. The man stumbled forward but recovered and turned back toward Tony. The idiot had gotten their attention away from Steve, but now he was fighting two to one. Steve pulled himself up using the wall, ready to help Tony. A swift kick to his stomach brought Tony to his knees. The other, already behind him, grabbed him and in an instant snapped his neck. Tony's eyes were wide and already lifeless by the time he hit the ground.

Steve saw red. He tackled the nearest one and started to pummel him. All strategic planning, all tactical fighting skill, all rational thought were just gone. Tony was dead. Tony was gone and it was his fault. He should have known this would happen. He knew he didn't trust Tony's informant, he should have been more insistant. This stupid Neverlin deal was probably fake from the beginning. It was all a stupid trap to stop them from interfering with petty ******** criminals. He didn't even feel the knife that was lodged into his back several times. He was still trying in vain to hurt his attackers as he was dragged off the one that snapped Tony's neck and left bleeding in the alley. Tony's killer was pulled up and out of the alley by his friend. Steve yelled after them long after they left, granted his yelling became more of a whimper rather quickly. With all the effort he had left, he pulled himself over to Tony. "I will find you."
