Where~ Located a little further than most warrens from the farm, but large in size due to the complex system of tunnels in place to keep out trespassers. The main river resource for the warren isn't visible from above-ground, but it is a constantly flowing river, with a current not too strong for small kits to wade into without facing harm. Further within the warren there are pools of water, most likely what has leaked through cracks in the rocks around the river bed, which are used for initiation into the warren itself.
About The Warren~ Inlé is seen as their true god, so rabbits of this warren sleep during the day and are mostly active at night. The warren itself is well hidden within a maze of tunnels, and kits must be trained as soon as they can walk to navigate the extensive network in order to get within the warren itself. Though the maze is always dark to fool elil, once you are within the dens themselves you will catch the soft glow of the strange fungi that light the dens and passageways of the inner warren, and the warmth of the warren that comes with it. Rabbits of this warren are used to the soft light and recognize each other by scent more than sight, and a stranger would be identified right away. Owsla are split into two groups: Inlé Owsla and Frith Owsla. Those that watch the warren during the day and keep the tunnels lit by tending the fungi with water are seen as the braver force, facing Frith-followers and the elil that are awake to defend the warren. Inlé Owsla are the ones who are active at night, keeping the warren in line and watching out for their Rah. All types are found within the warren, from storytellers to crafters to regular rabbits. Stories are commonplace within the dark, though usually song is the more adored pastime. The Rah himself was one of the most enthusiastic for song as a kit, and that would be why he was named for such. Upon death of a member, the rabbit will be lain within the flowing river on a piece of driftwood and all the warren will mourn the loss, usually humming a soft choir until the body of the deceased has floated from view and into the arms of the Black Rabbit waiting just ahead.
Appearance~ Rabbits of this warren will be leaner built in stature than those who follow Frith, often with soft, glistening fur from their constant contact with their underground river. Both genders will have larger eyes with wide pupils and wider, shorter ears to better take in their dark surrounding, as well as shorter legs accustomed to dwelling within the warren and rarely outside, where they have no need to outrun elil. They can sometimes be coated in fragments of glowing fungi along their chest and face from constant contact with it, which is washed off in the river before they go out scouting or leave the warren in the dark, when they can be easily seen.
Resources~ Though they follow Inlé, most of their gathering of food is done at twilight, the earliest they can possibly go out to avoid full exposure to the sun and see for any elil. Most of what they gather is standard flay, though from time to time Owsla and those more dedicated to avoiding Frith are known to eat roots instead, being something that needs no sun to grow downwards into the ground. [Usually the much, MUCH older warren members are the ones eating roots. Younger generations prefer flay.] Water is found within the warren itself, as upon digging the original warren, the does had discovered a water source that had flowed in from the surface surrounded by plant-life growing on driftwood that would glow in the darkness. The plants were carefully lifted with pieces of the original wood and placed along tunnels and pathways, and a superstition arose that if you ate the source of the lights or so much as nibbled at them, you would be claimed by the Black Rabbit and curse the rest of the warren back into darkness for forsaking his mercy on their ancestors. There are always nibbles here and there from the random kit trying to prove himself, but no one would ever openly admit to disgracing Inlé with pride unless they wanted to be removed from the warren.
Backstory~ The warren had been just a small group at one time, little more than 3 hlessi does trying to make their home somewhere. They would go from warren to warren seeking shelter, only to be turned away by the rules or the warren itself. One such warren in particular had such an aggressive outlook on hlessi that the 3 does were cast into a river for trying to argue with the Owsla for entry. It had nearly cost them their lives, but apparently there were other plans at work. By the light of Inlé, they found themselves washed up on the embankment out of a sudden, fast current that would save them from drowning, far down the river where the barbaric warren wouldn't see them. And it was by the Black Rabbit's paw that they would assume they'd been saved, denouncing Frith-following rabbits who would rather see them die for the Black Rabbit who truly decided their fates and deemed them not ready for such a fate. Thus, they built a warren of their own on these beliefs, and those that agreed followed the three does. [A warren member will proudly announce themselves as one of the sister's lineage in greeting, "I am ___ of Marli's Blood."]
Views on Outsiders~ Though not openly hostile towards outside influences, they choose not to involve themselves with quarrels between neighboring warrens unless they should become directly involved in some way. The wars of the Frith followers were not their own, as they chose to follow Inlé. If a stranger should want to join them, there is an initiation process where the hlessi will have to wash him or herself in the underground waters and be accepted by the Rah after waiting a few days to greet the warren itself, though kits are kept away from them for the time being. A member of the warren must also speak on behalf of the newcomer, usually a Frith Owsla who has seen the stranger from the day's view and can vouch for them. Should a stranger prove to be a threat, it is up to the Owsla who originally encountered him to exile or kill him/her as they see fit, though the crime usually fits the punishment. Hlessi who are just visiting or passing through are more likely to not know the warren is there, given they don't interfere with Frith-followers often. Should a visitor occur, however, they will be welcomed warmly, but kept at an arm's distance within the warren. Frith-followers are seen often as one would view a kit; as someone who isn't aware of the world just yet and who can be taught should they choose to listen.
Leader~ Inléhain-rah bears himself in a way that strikes fear into others, though he doesn't seem to be aware of it. By merely standing in a crowded den, he can silence it and bring attention to himself in a time of crisis. By looks alone he may be fearsome, but he is better known for his ability to stay level-headed and calm in any given situation, even if the den should collapse around him. He has no bearing for kits, however, and can easily become flustered when asked questions by them, showing a softer side of himself that the Owsla choose to make apparent when the warren seems to be distancing from their Rah.
Rules~ -Kits are not allowed outside the warren, period. -Members of the warren are free to travel at night, so long as they know the risks of the outside world. Warren members are to sleep during the day, but those who wish to travel must seek the permission of an Owsla on duty to do so. The life of that member is that Owsla's responsibility should they allow them to wander. -The river is perfectly within limits, however any who should choose to follow the river downstream will be cast out, as they have pushed the boundaries of Inlé and are a risk to the rest of the warren for their curiosity. Kits are warned from a young age that downstream is the Black Rabbit's secret lair and he doesn't like to be bothered. -When the first full moon rises after the ice is melted from the edge of the river, the entire warren hold a celebration to honor the Black Rabbit. Food is stored heavily all year round for this reason, often withing pools at the water's edge to keep it fresh, so that they may feast until their bellies are full on this night. [Held in late February or early March, depending on the moon]
Ranks~ Captain- Next in command, they are there to take charge when the leader cannot. They are often chosen by the warren members as the best possible replacement for their leader should he pass on, and they are preferred to have the darker colors of Inlé like the Rah. Storytellers- Common occupation of the warren, as kits are prone to curiosity otherwise, and therefore trouble. Seers- Are a case-by-case basis, as they are often seen as blessed by Frith rather than Inlé and may be tricksters. The Rah himself chooses to keep one close to him in case of emergency. Runners- Are held in high-regard for facing Frith's light in order to bring back food and information. Kits- Are seen as very impressionable, so are watched carefully and taught right from wrong as soon as possible to avoid tragedy.

Hey Chez, I did some quick research and found a fungi called the Bitter Oyster that grows in Europe and does indeed give off bioluminescence. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panellus_stipticusSince it typically grows on loamy logs, strips of bark that have the fungi on them would have to be brought into the warren. This kind of fungi would need at least a little sunlight to grow x3 ----------- Rabbits are crepuscular in nature, meaning they typically are active during dawn and twilight. If you're forgoing the dawn aspect that's fine. So your rabbits would probably be active from twilight (which would be the prime time to forage then) to about an hour before dawn I'd think. (obviously a lot less when it's cold out.) Just as long as they're out and about at twilight when there's at least a little light left to forage <3 ----------- That's all I got for now x3 I'm sure I'll comment more later heart

Yay, comments! XD As for the fungi, I was going with the idea that although the bark itself comes from upriver, the trees of the source could be along the water's edge above-ground and other animals could be causing the bark and fungi to drop from the trees and into the river and it floats downstream. Frith Owsla would be responsible for tending the fungi, so it's possible they replace fading fungi with newer fungi and leave the fading fungi outside the warren to rejuvenate it, little to their knowledge that it actually needs the sunlight. This could also be how visitors themselves can find the warren entrance, by the fungi that is left out in the sun in mass. As for when they forage, works for me. X3 Yeah they'd be forgoing the dawn, but would forage heavily in the twilight hours to be prepared for celebration that occurs once a year as well as being prepared for harsher winter months.

ChezaRain .... That's even MORE interesting. Though I doubt the warren could be dug down deep enough for that. >3>; *chintap* Went to bed last night, but even slightly underground, the temperature is more even than it is above ground. That's why so many desert animals rely on burrows: they're cooler during the day and warmer during the night. As to the water not freezing underground thing... that would only work if the temperature never went bellow freezing (the constant temperature thing) OR if the water was under a lot of pressure. Water certainly freezes underground in the arctic, where there's permafrost. As far as your warren goes... I'd guess the water is probably trapped between some rock layers and seeping out? So it's a couple pools of water here and there, but pretty deep down? That way the tunnels won't flood or erode + it's a more constant temperature + there's some pressure involved + it's still semi-running water. If the warren really spends that much time underground and it's an old warren, I think it'd be reasonable to assume they dug pretty deep down.

So some really random questions (because you asked in-thread for questions): How does this gang feel about albinos? What happens if a kitten or outskirter manages to get really bold and sneak outside? Would naming rules be different since most rabbits would never see day-dwelling critters? Would they ever dare a farm raid or accept a hutch rabbit? What happens if some rabbit wants to leave the warren as an adult?

Scaramouche Fandango So some really random questions (because you asked in-thread for questions): How does this gang feel about albinos? What happens if a kitten or outskirter manages to get really bold and sneak outside? Would naming rules be different since most rabbits would never see day-dwelling critters? Would they ever dare a farm raid or accept a hutch rabbit? What happens if some rabbit wants to leave the warren as an adult? Alright, let's take these one at a time: Albinos: Since the warren itself isn't really color bias outside of having a darker-colored Rah, they wouldn't be seen as bad. They are born the way that nature has decided. Sneaking outside: IF they manage to get past the guarding Owsla and don't get caught it'll be a miracle. XD BUT it is quite possible, and if they do they're pretty much on their own unless they get caught. You get caught, you get a lecture and a slap on the wrist for a first offense, pretty much. If you keep at it, there's a chance of being kicked out for prefering Frith over Inle. Naming: I figure most rabbits would know the names of creatures and plants just like regular rabbits, so no real naming restrictions would apply but for each individual rabbit, depending on how strongly they follow Inle, may be different. Raid/Hutch Rabbit: It certainly possible for them to perform a raid, but it would be a last resort. They prefer getting what is more easily available. As far as hutch rabbits, they're still a rabbit regardless of where they were born, and since most of the rabbits are Frith-followers, the warren is used to teaching newcomers. Leaving: If they want to leave, they would probably have to take it up with the Rah. He would most likely let them go, but if the reason is an idiotic one [following a hlessi female or similar], he may ban them from returning as well.
