Prompt: New Beginnings

Description: I decided to go with a more personal piece and talk about my actual life rather than make a fictional piece, while maintaining the third person perspective.

Jason lay there in his bed. The room was warm, and he usually wouldn't feel like getting out of bed, but today was different. Today, he was going to a new high school. Avanti High School, a place where you control your learning. He didn't fully know what to expect, it was merely his first day of orientation. He had mixed feelings about it; he was anxious, nervous, and curious about it. Jason’s alarm clock hadn’t gone off yet, he woke up before it. After climbing out of his bed, he walked over to his closet and found one of his new shirts that he bought for school. He grabbed a pair of jeans and the rest of his clothing and left the bedroom to the bathroom. He set his clothes on the bathroom counter and walked back out. He was pretty hungry and arrived at his small kitchen. Opening the pantry he grabbed a box of cereal, Captain Crunch, and poured some into a bowl. He poured some milk, grabbed a spoon and took it to the dining table. A couple of minutes went by and he finished eating. Other small morning events occurred. A shower. Packing a bag. Checking his Facebook. Once he was finished and ready to head out the door, he grabbed his bag and locked the door behind him. He walked over to the transit bus stop and waited for the bus to arrive, he needed to catch the 43. When the bus finally pulled up by the bus stop, he pulled two dollars out of his wallet and paid for a day pass. He went to the back as usual where he could people watch with ease. They stopped by a community college and the bus overfilled with students, some people even had to stand. The bus stopped by the Olympia Transit Center and he got off. There was usually always homeless people, heavy smokers and stoners, and all kinds of weird loopy people around this area. Jason didn’t enjoy it since he had nothing in common with any of these people, so he just started walking to his new school. The walk wasn’t too long, but he had to pass by a small group that was protesting abortion, he thought that was funny. He finally arrived at his new school where the learning process was going to be new to him. The building was large, three stories to be exact, but the school was only on the first floor. He walked up to the front door, and opened it.

Prompt: Cause/Effect

Description: Just decided to write about my addiction to soda. Addiction with anything sounds so similar, so it might sound like alcohol when in fact it's not. The cause is continuing to drink, and the effect is the lack of money and the symptoms of addiction.

On the first day, he tried drinking one
The next day, he drank two
Then three, four, and five
He kept drinking and drinking

But there was no more money
No more way to get his drink
He stole, he begged, he searched
But eventually he drank no more

One day he just stopped
His head got hit by a hammer
His mouth and lips became dry and parched
He couldn't think, he couldn't sleep
He lay there, needing more
But there was no more

Eventually, it finally passed
His head didn't hurt
He could think and sleep
He didn't need any more
He told himself he was free
That he wouldn't drink anymore.

Then he went to the store
Just to grab one more
He came back the next day
But only to grab a couple more
And then he got three, four, and five
