I had a game last week where I literally had 0 chance of winning.

I play Cryx in Warmachine and my friend plays Menoth. We decided on a 20 point game as it's the only list size I had ready with my army.

Anyway it was Master Necrotech Mortenebra versus the Harbinger of Menoth. And I had no chance what so ever. His list was nearly all elite heavy infantry with Weapon Master and I had only Helljacks and a couple of War witches. On paper I should have won. Easily. I was thinking I would have had no problems until I ran into the Harbinger's ability to automatically resurrect the dead in her command area. Because, you know, she can do literally EVERYTHING. So every model I killed just got resurrected the second they got squashed by either Deathjack or my Harrower. D3 damage in return for resurrecting a model is seriously not enough of a discouragement especially when she sits on 10 focus and can get healed D3 by another model every turn. So after killing nearly his entire army 3 times I get tabled while his whole army was still on the field.

His cavalry blocked any trample charges by my jacks and when ever something died, WHOOP, right back up and alive enough to hit my jacks for 8-12 damage every hit. It didn't help that he only rolled 5's to see where the damage would hit.

Yeah, it's pretty lame when a game just turns into someone being run over. I played a game against him on Sunday that was also pretty lame, but I learned a good tactic against the Menoth trait that screwed me over in that game.

It was Severius vs Mortenebra in a 15 point game. Severius' bond allows him to completely negate an attack once per turn on his bonded Jack by burning a focus while simultaneously allowing his bonded warjack to have 4 focus(max on all others is 3 without some ability that says otherwise). It screwed me by negating the one attack I needed to land and deal massive damage.

So essentially I thought up a tactic to completely dissolve that advantage. Mortenebra has a spell that allows her to stop any and all focus allocation, on the target while also not allowing it to be driven or forced while in the 4" AOE not to mention it stop's the jack's ability to act as an Arc Node which screw's Severius. So basically I hit the bonded Jack with a Warwitch Siren which causes Shadow Bind (Cannot move except for changing face and -2 Def. And no, not stationary or knock down which can be shaken off). Follow up with Mortenebra's spell to keep the Jack focusless and arc nodeless. Wait till the next turn to attack so that it has no focus and then obliterate it. Also, upkeep the AOE just in case it doesn't die that turn. If he negates that first Shadow Bind attack I always have a second Warwitch Siren with which to make a follow up.

Probably Warwitch Denegra. Then again those Warwitches have that Spray 8" venom magic ability. So keeping anything bunched up is horrible.

I hate those pivotal rolls that always end up with snake eyes. They happen to me all too often.
