Yu Jie blinked as she tried to absorb all that was going around her. it was the first time since she had appeared in this world that Perenna, her 'mother', asked her to come to the market. They were in search of new teas that would be pleasing for customers. It wasn't often that their tea shop would be closed for the day, and Yu Jie was very curious to what she'd see.

While Perenna tasted teas, Yu Jie wandered around the stalls nearby. Perenna had given Yu Jie a small sack of coins that she held in one hand while clenching her ruyi in the other. She crossed her arms and held both things closely as she glanced blankly at the stalls. Yu Jie couldn't imagine buying anything for herself, but her mother had given her so much already... Maybe she could get something for her?

There wasn't anything that caught her eye for the first couple stands, but one stand caught her eye. As she kept looking, her eyes gleamed and a smile arose on her face. They were beautiful jade pieces, sparkling in the sun. The vibrant greens were the same familiar ones of her ruyi.

Yu Jie was so distracted by them that she hadn't noticed the two people at the stand, one more like her than anyone else at the market.

Bai Mei and his father Jing Lin were currently setting up shop in one of the corner booths, the two of them having arrived earlier enough to get the space before someone else snagged it up. It had been some time since the two of them had come into town to sell some of the pieces that Jing Lin had made. It was always a bit of a to do when they left their property after all, the two of them often treated as though they were some sort of strange spirits or something. While being strange was true for Bai Mei, he was a child with white hair that was born from a flower after all, but Jing Lin... that was all just rumor.

"I will lay out the little pieces!" Bai Mei chirped, sliding his pack off of his back in a careful manner, set it down behind the booth, and knelt down in front of it so that he could set to unpack the various, colorful little carved animals and flowers, laying them out where the passing people could see them. Once the little trinkets were laid out he did the same with the necklaces and jewelry. Once everything was unpacked he pushed up to his feet, "All done!" He said happily before he pushed the pack under the booth, out of the way and out of sight so that it wouldn't be in the way.

He turned to look over at where his Little Shen was sitting, a small blue dragon that made himself seen only to those he saw as worthy, "All set up, come here Little Shen." He said, holding out his arms and the little dragon hopped from the booth to land on his outstretched hands before shuffling up his arms to wrap himself around Bai Mei's neck like a fancy necklace. The young boy pet the dragon in a gentle manner before he turned his attention back to his father, "All ready?" He asked as he looked a couple of bigger, more ornate pieces that the man had put on display, out of reach, not wanting to risk them getting broken by people getting too hands on with them.

Coming to sit along his son Jing Lin gave a nod, lifting a hand to adjust his thick glasses, "Ready." He said, giving the boy a smile and a pat on the head, ever proud of how mature and well behaved the boy was. He never complained when it came to helping out in the shop or any chores really, "Now we just sit and wait and see if we can sell a few pieces today." He said, they had a list of their own of things that they wanted to pick up, something that they would do later, after running the shop for a time.

Yu Jie took swift steps towards the booth, weaving between people that were walking around. She stared at the booth the whole time, making sure she didn't lose sight of where it was. When the crowd started thinning out as she was only a ways away from the booth, she looked back, making sure she knew how to get back to where the tea house was.

She took slower steps towards the booth now, staring at how the pieces sparkled slightly in the sun. There were many different size pieces as well as many differently carved pieces. Yu Jie brought her hands to her chest, holding her ruyi and the small bag of coins close to her heart. Her jade meant so much to her; how would she ever be able to choose a piece for her mother?

When she finally took her eyes off of the pieces of jade, Yu Jie looked at the owners with a blank expression minus the glimmer of excitement in her eyes. One, a man, seemed like the master craftsman. The other seemed to be someone around her own age. She kind of sensed a closeness to him, but couldn't understand why. Yu Jie said nothing to either but instead cracked a shy smile before continuing to look at the pieces.

Bai Mei looked over at the girl that had appeared to browse the various pieces that they had set out and he gave her a smile, his yellow eyes sparkling, "Hello! Feel free to take your time browsing the various pieces. They are all handmade by my father." He told her, doing his best to help out since he knew that one day his father might require him to do the selling on his own. It wasn't something he was looking forward to, much preferring to have company, but he knew the man was a bit of a homebody, "The jade is really pretty, huh? I really like the green and blue pieces best myself. What about you?"

He couldn't help but to be curious if she was here for a necklace, perhaps? She was quite pretty and he was sure that she would look nice in any of them. He picked up one piece, this one carved to look like a lotus flower similar to the one that Bai Mei had appeared from according to Jing Lin and he said, "I bet this one would look really pretty on you. What do you think?" He wasn't sure what she was after so he might as well make suggestions when it came to the various things that would look nice on her. This piece especially for some reason felt as though it would look best with her. He couldn't place exactly why though, just a hunch.

Giving a soft chuckle Jing Lin lifted a hand to pat Bai Mei on the shoulder, glad for his enthusiasm but he didn't want his son chasing off the first customer of the day, "There is no rush to pick anything out, browse to your hearts content young one." The older man said, adjusting his glasses for a moment before he crossed his arms over his chest. There was no rush in his mind, if one of the pieces called out to her he was sure that she would find that one. If not then she would move on, no reason to try to foist them upon her. Not what Bai Mei was thinking of course, he was eager to sell pieces so that they would be able to do their own shopping later.

Yu Jie was comforted by the smile she received from the boy. His enthusiasm with what was in front of them made her feel as though they were connected through the jade. She returned his smile with a small one of her own, happy that he seemed kind and helpful. "They're all gorgeous, but I have to admit... I'm a really big fan of the deep green ones."

Of course, she knew that the ones that were deep green were more expensive than she could afford.

"That is really pretty, but I'm not looking for myself today," Yu Jie told him as showed her the lotus piece. She really liked it, and fitting consider that's all her mother really knew about Yu Jie's past. "Maybe another day? I think I only really have enough money for one today, and well, I'd really like to get my mother something."

She became a little more flustered after admitting that, and even more so when what seemed like the boy's father stepped in. "I don't feel rushed, Sir... Just unsure of what I want." Yu Jie continued to glance at all the pieces before she decided to ask for help. "By any chance do you carry any bird pieces?"

"Ohhh, you are looking for a gift for someone? How lovely!" Bai Mei chirped, always excited when people came to their booth to look for presents for others. It meant so much to him to know that his father's wonderful pieces would bring smiles to other peoples faces as they were given as gifts. It really was a wonderful thing and he wanted to help the girl out that much more now that he knew what it was that she was looking for, "Alright, we should see about finding just the right thing for your mother then." He said with a smile.

As the girl continued to look, commenting first about being unsure about what she wanted, then asked about birds, Bai Mei set to scanning all the little pieces, "Oh, yes, there are a couple sorts of birds actually. There are two sorts, the sort that have closed wings and the sorts with open wings. Let's see if we can find the elusive little guys." He said with a chuckle as he searched for them. After a moment of searching there was a little chirp from Shen, drawing Bai Mei's attention to the dragon that was wrapped around his neck. He watched him a moment as he got up, stretched out, then walked his way down Bei Mei's arm. From there the little one jumped onto the counter of booth, walking over to sit in front of Jing Lin, and motioned with one clawed hand toward the birds.

"Ah ha! Good job, Little Shen." He said, hopping up off the stool he'd been sitting on so he could take the two steps across the tiny booth to where the birds were located, "Here they are, hiding amongst the other little animals." He told the girl, picking the various colored and posed birds out of the mass of figurines, setting them so that they were standing in a group together. It would allow her to look through them more easily. With that task finished Shen was once more scaling Bai Mei, looking to get back to his favored perch.

Yu Jie couldn't help but continuing smiling. The energy from the boy was infectious and she soon began to feel sort of excited for her quest for the perfect jade piece.

She was patient as the boy continued to scan the pieces. Of course, she continued to look as well, but unlike the boy, Yu Jie was admiring the colors instead of looking for birds. The shades of green were just a little bit distracting for her. That was true until something else came from the boy: a small dragon.

It was rude to stare, but Yu Jie stared blank faced at it as it came down to the table to show the boy where the birds were. She was amazed to see a dragon at all, let alone a very talented helper. Yu Jie covered her mouth as she let out a small smile as the dragon easily knew where the birds were; it was just too adorable.

"Thank you, Dragon," she said with a smile as he went back to the boy. "And thank you, Sir, for all your help so far." Yu Jie went closer to the animal figurines and glanced at them until one caught her eye. The bird was a light shade of green and stood on a perch. "Mother would like this, I think!"

Yu Jie picked it up gently and set it aside from the others. "How much do you think this would be?"
