Personality:
Amaya doesn’t remember her previous life. Remnants of feelings and emotions sometimes come through though. Like an affection for human children. She doesn’t understand why, but when she sees a group of them, especially young ones, she feels the need to herd them together and protect them. This, of course, doesn’t go well with any adults in the area. They think she is trying to catch the children to either eat them or suck the life from them.

Amaya will help out when she can, but she knows her limitations and doesn't try to 'prove' anything to anyone. She’s not an adventure seeker. She’s likes being close to home, but she’ll follow Dustin anywhere. Even into town when he goes to barter his crops and eggs.

Personality: Dustin chooses to live alone. Deep down, he knows he’ll never take a wife, but he always talks about ‘someday’ when he’ll have someone to share his life. The town folk know that he shelters his animals inside the house, which is not unusual for small homesteads, but they also know that he talks to his animals like they know what he is saying. The women of the small bartering town of Whitewolf generally keep their distance when Dustin comes to town.

The arrival of Amaya filled the need for companionship that could actually converse with him, instead of just listening to him like the cow and the felines.


History:
Amaya had a previous owner before Dustin. The previous owner was wealthy and thought having many Kage would make him powerful. He ignored the warnings from the Neverlin mages about the creatures’ need for life energy. When the Neverlin mages would no longer sell Kages to him, he found other sources. The inevitable happened, he acquired too many and they sucked the life out of him.

Amaya was one of his later acquisitions and too young to know what to do once her benefactor was gone. When the family of the dead man came to claim his belongings, his horde of Kage was discovered. Some were still living, having survived off the life energy of other Kage now dead. The Red Kingdom was notified to come destroy the rest of the creatures.

One of the Neverlin mages that knew of the dead man’s obsession had quietly been keeping an eye on his acquisitions and diminishing life energy. The mage had been able to slip into the dead man’s home in the days before the family had finally arrived. After a few secret visits he was able to remove some of the still living Kage to find new homes for them. He found Amaya among a pile of Kage corpses, near death herself. She was one of the last ones he was able to remove before the family arrived, discovered the creatures and killed those still showing remnants of life.

Amaya was the last of his rescues that still needed a home. She had needed more tending than the others to bring her back to herself. He was on his way to Whitewolf, hoping to find a quiet home for her. The ordeal in the home of her first owner had taken its toll on her. The mage wanted her to have a home where she would only find kindness. On the road to Whitewolf, the mage was overtaken by a thunder storm, but was fortunate to find shelter in the home of a farmer. It was a small quiet farmstead, just outside of town. Seeing how the farmer took extra special care of his animals, he felt that fate had steered him there. He didn’t think he could find a better suited home for the young Neverlin Kage.
