She'd seen them in her dreams, the biggest, brightest clam shells ever. In fact they were so bright that they had rivalled the weird little gems that usually came inside them. She'd be surrounded by them! Here, there, everywhere and she totally could have rolled in them. They'd been so pretty and they'd been all hers! ...Then she had woken up and discovered, much to her disappointment, that it was all a dream.
Therefore she had come to the conclusion as she had stuffed her face unceremoniously with breakfast that she was going to track these fabled clam shells down. She knew shells lived on the beach which meant that said shells should be there...or at least that's how it worked in theory and as such, this was to be her destination!
With a wave of her little paw and very little ceremony, she had dismissed herself from her parents with the usual promises of good behaviour and made for the beaten trails.
Today would be a good day.
Today was a day for clam shells!

Nodi had come to the conclusion some time ago that he was boring. He could never think of interesting new games to play, or things to do. The boy was certain that he was the most boring cub in the whole litter. And if that was so, that made his sister Solenn the exact opposite. Nodi was positive that her hastiness at breakfast was a sure sign that the white lioness was up to something big this morning! And that was sure to be fun! The grey cub padded after her, eager to see what his sister was up to.

Her sibling senses were tingling. Like really tingling to the point that she knew, just knew that somebody or something was following her. Yet they weren't tingling in the way that encouraged her to spin round and show off her super-ninja moves, instead they were prodding her in a manner that indicated she was being watched. It was a peculiar sensation and was generally only brought on by the quieter siblings whether they be her age or older... when they did that weird 'watching' thing.
With this in mind she soon spun round, narrowing her eyes briefly as she determined who was acting as her shadow for the day. She was greeted with the sight of her brother, Nodi. One of the quieter ones, destined for the more important things in life that often came with the 'quieter' sort. For all she knew he'd be a diplomat or some such and look down on her when she crashed the party and blew his agreements or something.
Least that's what she thought diplomats were for... they definitely did something.
"Whatcha doin'?" she asked nosily.

How'd she know he was here? Nodi had tried to be quiet, he'd even tried to breathe quiet! But somehow Solenn had just known he was here and now she knew and now she was looking at him and asking him a question and he had to answer her because she was his sister and all that...
"Uhhh...following you," the grey cub admitted at last, having run as dry on inspiration for words as he was for games and other things to do with his day. He really wasn't very good at coming up with stuff at all.
But hey! He could ask questions! He even knew of one (now that Solenn had pointed it out to him.)
"What are you doing?" the boy turned the sentence back on its originator.

Well at least he was honest; blunt, but honest.
"Well I already knew that," she mumbled and shook her head, clearly unimpressed by his statement of the obvious. As always she had been expecting something more dramatic but when it came down to it this was Nodi, so she was being silly.
"And I'm clam hunting," she stated and puffed out her chest. "I had a vision," she informed him, though she was by no means a seer in the slightest, or at least she wasn't aware of it. "Of mountains of shiny shells, all mine... This means that they're out there and I need to find them." she whispered dramatically.
"Solenn, queen of the shells!" she cried dramatically and then frowned. "But why exactly are you following me?"

Clams? Clams were tasty. They were things that some of the grownups found in the ocean and brought out and pried open and then Nodi and the others could eat the weird little creatures inside. They were really, really good.
But he wasn't entirely certain what Solenn was talking about with the shells. Wasn't the meat the best part? Was this something that his sister was strange about, or was it something all lioness were weird about? He really couldn't tell, but the cub was certain none of his brothers would be practically prancing around at the idea of mountains of shells. Not to mention that shells broke easily, and into sharp points when they did. Ugh, who would want a mountain of the things?
Still, she'd asked him a question, and it wasn't about clams. He should answer.
"Because you're not boing."

It was probably a girl thing, given that at least one of her sisters also had a flare for interior design and pretty shells! That being said, the occasional brother did have 'hidden depths' or was simply laid back enough not to care in the event that they were required to humour one of their sisters. She counted Euphrates in those ranks even though he was most likely snoring his face off on some rock, he was super lazy.
Like really lazy.
He even made bubbles come out of his nose that you could pop!
"Course I'm not boring," she tutted and then tilted her head to the side. "But you can totally come if you promise to help me look for shells, you can't just stare k? Cause staring is weird... And rude."

Blink blink blink.
Why on earth would he want to go with her and help look for shells? The ones on the beach were empty! The clams had already been eaten and the shells were just waiting to break and stab a sensitive paw! What was the point?
The grey cub understood about the not staring, but he didn't stare, he just looked at a person while he tried to figure out what to say to them! It wasn't at all the same as staring. Not in the least.
"Uh...no thanks. Maybe I'll just watch," the boy replied, failing to realize that a look of disgust was plastered on his face.

"Why are you looking at me like that?" she demanded in a tone of voice that wasn't quite so friendly. For someone who had decided she wasn't boring, why was he looking at her as if she had said something bad? His disgust was met by the glare of a disgruntled sibling and she promptly turned on her heel and padded off, stomping as hard as was possible on her paws.
"I already told you that you can only come if you don't stare and watching is just like staring. If you're not goin' to help then you can't come at all!" she yelled and gave a rather pompous sniff, lifting her nose in the air as she paraded forward.
"You can go be boring in the corner for all I care, you'll miss out on all the treasure!"

Nodi rolled his shoulders in a shrug. It wasn't as if Solenn was the only interesting sibling he had. And why she'd want to cut up her white paws on empty husks that didn't even have the taste of clam left inside them was a total mystery to the boy. Not at all worth being yelled at by his sister.
"Okay then," he agreed, turning his back on the lioness and heading back toward their parents' den. Maybe he'd find big brother Euphrates and watch him sleep. Euphrates was so talented, he wasn't even boring when he slept!
