I want to see what sort of novels, short stories, novellas, and the like people have read in their lifetime. Any suggestions for others to read? Why?

List of Books
(( I'll extend the list to sub-categories if I get a lot of different genres up ))

Name -- Author -- Type (novel, novel series, short, one-shot, etc.) -- Brief Summary, No Spoilers! -- Heart Rating for Popular books in the guild

My recommendations for fiction novels are:

•Bartimaeus Trilogy -- By Jonathan Stroud --Official Website --
•Pendragon Series -- D.J MacHale -- Novel Series -- Official Website
•Hemlock Grove A Novel -- By Brian McGreevy -- Novel --
•Sabriel, Lirael, Abhorsen -- Garth Nix -- Three separate novel, same genre, subject and most characters --
•Sevenwaters Trilogy -- By Juliet Marillier -- Originally a Trilogy, but turned into a Series -- Official Website -- MORE BOOKS BY HER ~ All are really quite good, I personally haven't read them all though
•Bridei Chronicles -- By Juliet Marillier -- Series of 3 novels -- Official Website
•Sherrilyn Kenyon -- Author of MANY novels and shorts of myhtic beings and gods and goddesses -- Official Website -- I have only read her DARK-HUNTER SERIES
•Harry Potter -- By JK Rowling -- Novel Series -- Enough said. Haha.
•Enchantress from the Stars -- Sylia Louise Engdhal -- Novel -- Interesting view of an enchantress, who is a woman from space with strong psychic abilites. Earthlings, think she is a witch or a lady that works with magic, and has come to rid their land of evil dragons. Nothing is as it seems. wink

Most of these books I've listed have something to do with magic(k) in a sense. Let me know if you've already read them or not? These are all from the year 2000-ish (earlier maybe, but not past 1999), I guess. Not TOO old. I think Sabriel is probably the oldest published book there. Lol.

Wouldn't this just end up being most of fantasy as a genre?

I don't know. There Historical Fantasy, Romance, and mix of a few others. xD I'm not sure though. We'll find out if that's the case. Oh! Sci-fi too!

I'm gonna agree with San on this. This is a really broad topic. I'd basically have to list half my library and there's a lot of books in that list. Takes to much to list the all.

For some reason this topic makes me want to reread The Last Dragon Chronicles. Though Fire World and The Fire Ascending made me go "What the ********? Why'd you continue dragging this out?"

Other than that I'm confused by what's going on. So just ignore me. I'm in babble mode.

I've read all bar the last book. I really rather enjoyed the series. I even have my own clay Gadzooks - notepad and all!

I dragged myself through the last one. It was good but it was like "Why is this important again?
You could have just left David dead and just left it with the fact that he has a daughter instead of using the last book to say 'Yeah I just trolled all you guys. David was never real.'
"

I feel he could have just left it off with the end of The Fire Eternal. And for a couple years I had thought that was the end. I didn't know he had released more until a couple months after the last one was released and I was looking up Grockle's name because I couldn't remember it and saw there were more.

But that's cool that you have a Gadzooks. He was one of my favorites of the dragons.

Fire World confused the hell out of me. I was waiting with bated breath for the new books as they came out...until Fire World. So I'm not entirely sure what to expect of the last one.

The last one tries to explain Fire World and stuff that wasn't even present in the others. So you're not exactly missing much by not reading it.
