Have you seen the film Metropolis? Either the one from 1927 or the one from 2001.

2001:

I have seen both and I have to say that I love the newer version, it is rather excellent in my opinion. Where as the old one, I personally think, was terrible, but it is a classic.

I saw the trailer for the anime Metropolis; looks freaky-goodi~ish... whee

The style is very familiar; is it from the animators of Cyborg 009 and Kikaider?

Don't know, though the screenplay is by the person that directed Akira, 3nodding and the art director's works include ghost in the shell and X.

It's based on Osamu Tezuka's book thing from 1949

I've seen both. I enjoyed the 20's one but I found it hard to follow dialouge wise at times because even in the most fully restored version there was a large lack of inbetweeners in scenes. But still a good film.

The anime Metropolis is one of my favorites. Gorgeous work. It's based of Tezuka's 2 volume manga from the 40s (only one of which has been released in the states confused ). The manga may or may not have been partially inspired by the 20's film. What I heard was that Tezuka didn't see the film, but saw an image or a poster.

Still, it's interesting to see the connections between the films. And also to go back through the manga and see what was all put together (plus nextworld and I assume the lostworld ones) to produce the movie. 3nodding
