Midnight in Paris is a good, funny, weird movie. Killer Joe was good and straight up crazy. Shame is fantastic.
ETA: Is there some kind of free online service that lets you rate/list movies you watched and make recommendations based off that? Like goodreads, but for films?

Man, I freaking loved Django Unchained.
It's nowhere near recent but I've recently gotten a bunch of Buster Keaton films. I love Buster Keaton.
I haven't seen many movies lately aside from Jurassic Park 3d I absolutely loved Moonrise Kingdom, which I got to write a paper on parallel to Badlands. Good films. Very similar. If you watch both, watch Badlands first and then watch Moonrise Kingdom.
So good.

I'm just always on imdb... lol at the bottom it usually recommends a few movies that you may like if you're interested in the one you're viewing
i haven't heard of killer joe, so i'll look that up And i don't think i can handle Shame, to be quite frank.... haha. Seems like a bit much

Too late, i already saw moonrise kingdom, haha. I liked it.... but it was strange. Like... i guess it's partly cause i didn't particularly want to see it. I went with someone else and i had no idea what to expect and then i just found it so weird.

Tarantino movie are always* good. Also, we're totally watching The General in my film class. It's fab. *Kill Bill kinda sucked. Gingivitis i haven't heard of killer joe, so i'll look that up And i don't think i can handle Shame, to be quite frank.... haha. Seems like a bit much Haha, Shame is deffo a little much. I wound up watching it at home while my sisters were out by my parents were in, and I just kept thinking 'please don't enter the den, please don't see what I'm watching' (of course, my dad come up the stairs to talk to me during the 20-some minute sex sequence). If you like old films, anything with James Cagney is good (The Roaring Twenties is good) or Elizabeth Taylor (Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf).

The General is my FAVOURITE Keaton film <3
Moonrise Kingdom is so freaking well-done. I think my entire film class built up to us watching it and appreciating everything about it. The compositions are so unconventional for film. Or, at least, it's really rare that you see a film with so much symmetry and compositions split down the middle as much as they were in that film. The sound treatment was also fantastic. I love it when people play with the idea of what is and isn't diegetic in film sound. <3
I liked Kill Bill emo

I liked Kill Bill emo It's really good. We had to stop halfway through but we'll start it up again next week. My main issue with Kill Bill is the Japanese fetishization (is that a word? I feel like it is but not spelt like that). It seemed like they just threw in katanas and martial arts and crappy little animated bit for no good reason other than 'katanas are cool' or something. Also, Lucy Lui? Not Japanese. Gratuitous asian s**t just bothers me. I think it's the strong association with weeaboos.

Like a Big Bad, you know? It paid homage to Asian Kung Fu movies while making it Japanese because they have crazy race drama. Also, I think Lucy Liu was good for the role even though she wasn't Japanese. That said, I can see why it bothers you. I mean, there are plenty of actual Japanese actresses that would have been good for the role but they chose to play it safe and go with more mainstream actress and that kind of stuff bothers me. It did with the Avatar movie, anyway. I mean, I suppose I'm biased for liking anime but I really liked the animated scene. They did that kind of thing for the flashbacks in the Scott Pilgrim movie and I guess I compare the two a lot mentally. Still, I also do think that specifically catering to weeaboos is kind of irritating but it is Tarantino and I feel like that's the only reason that they got away with it. It just seems like stylistic homage to Asian revenge epics, you know?

I can logically understand your arguments but emotionally I still don't like it. :/ I also kinda really don't care for Kung-Fu movies, so.

Yeah, emotion usually overrides reason when it comes to films. I sometimes looks t films that are "good films" but I just don't like 'em.
