It had been nothing but despair to be found at the docks, no boat, no way home. Ian had despaired, lamenting the cats it looked like he would never get to see again. But he couldn't afford to just give up, for their sakes.
So he'd picked himself up and set out in one last ditch attempt to find safety.
He found a car instead.

He'd never been a good driver, but with monsters the only thing he saw as he put his foot to the floor, not a human in sight, he realised it didn't matter any more.
It felt like the end of the world.

He hadn't expected the terrifying bird thing to crash out of the trees at him, he swerved frantically to avoid it but massive talons raked at the car which right now was his only sanctuary. Everyone was probably gone.
He wanted to check his cards, but there was no time.

Another surprise attack and the car stopped running. Panic was all there was left as he got out and ran for it - he'd never ran for his life before - it wasn't a good feeling.

Almost there. Almost there was all he could think about.
More rampaging creatures and a tree branch that hit him hard enough to cut him. But he made it. Somehow.
He doubted there'd be any chance at this point though.
