Oh, he loved his colony very much. And being a council member came with it's perks. But the peaceful, knowledge-seeking paradise was something he needed a break from every now and again. Settling on the flat, dry rock in the middle of the small pond, he closed his eyes. His migraine was slowly fading as he blocked out the sun.
It was a headache, half the time, arguing with those know-it-all scholars. He couldn't help if they couldn't see eye to eye. He was currently the only defense-centered council man out of the three of them. One of them was a star-gazer, the other a scholar. He sighed, dipping his paw into the water, swatting at a fish every now and again. The more he thought of the disagreements, the more irritated he got.
His vacation was hardly helping. Amiri had worked himself up into a grumpy mood, glowering furiously at the fish in the water as though they were to blame.
Rennekae I hope Zuni was her name??

 The sun beat down fiercely, heating 'Zuni's dark pelt almost unbearably. The lioness padded on determinedly, panting to try to keep cool. She had finally decided to head for her homeland and had been traveling for half a day. Any time she got tired and thought about resting, she pushed onward determinedly; she was worried that if she stopped she might change her mind.
This time, however, she definitely needed to take a break. Luckily, she could hear the sound of water up ahead. Forcing her aching muscles into a trot, she hurried toward the source of the noise. Reaching the pond she bent down to drink, thirstily lapping up mouthfuls of the cool liquid.
When she was finished, she licked away the droplets that hung from her whiskers and raised her head to look around. Almost instantly, she spotted the leopard. How could I be so stupid?! She mentally berated herself for letting her tiredness lower her guard. Although, to be fair, his pelt did blend pretty well with the rock he was laying across. And he was being fairly silent.
'Zuni folded her ears back and started to back away; unfortunately, the leopard turned toward her and their gazes locked. She couldn't run now. She couldn't let anyone think she was a coward - it would only invite aggression from those looking for an easy target.

Getting ready to flop back flat against the rock for a well needed nap, Amiri paused and tensed at the approach of a lioness. His dark eyes widened in momentarily surprise, body immediately tensing in preparation to fend off the other cat. However, when he wasn’t noticed, he blinked. This lioness... if she had been in his colony, he would feel obligated to lecture her about her lack of observation.
As of now, however, he was quite irritated that she was disturbing his peace. Glowering at her, Amiri stayed completely still, ears back against his head. Maybe she’ll take the hint and run off?
However, by the time he had laid eyes on her, she had also spotted him. He rolled his eyes heavenward. ”I’m not going to attack you, idiot.” he snapped, eyes glowering at her as he lowered his head on his paws. He was still tense, however, in case she dared to make a leap at him in the middle of the pond. ”Just, hurry up and finish your drinking and head on your way.” he didn’t bother softening his tone; he used the similar tone with nearly everyone.
He continued to watch her, however, unsure if she felt motivated to attack. He simply couldn’t relax until he knew she had left.

Usually, 'Zuni was cautious around strangers, even fearful - certainly never hostile. But that was with lions; her father had refused to even acknowledge any of the other predators, thinking them below him. So there was no way this leopard could be his friend, and his uncalled for rudeness just yanked her tail. Flattening her ears against her head, she bared her teeth and narrowed her eyes.
"You declared you to be King of the Pond?", she spat.
While she certainly didn't want to start a physical fight, 'Zuni wasn't going to obey this creature who felt the need to treat her poorly for no reason. Glowering for a moment longer, she lashed her tail once and lowered her head to drink again. She wasn't really thirsty anymore, but she wanted to make a point.
Her mistake in not noticing him was enough, however, to make her stay alert for any other felines that might be nearby. Lollipop x L u x u r y That's okay! It wasn't even that long. c:

Feeling rather cranky and finding this new source of entertainment, Amiri frowned all the more before lazily stretching. Once situated, he settled an arrogant eye on her. "All my fish minions, of course," he goaded, keeping his serious face. Oh, he felt like being mean today. And pressing this lioness's temper was going to make him feel so much better. He leered at her.
Deciding to taunt the other a little more and really gambling with his luck, the councilman jumped from the rock, landing in the water near the edge of the pond, causing water to splash every which way. He had aimed for a spot rather near the other feline, in hopes to prod at her temper. He sneered down at her. "What's your name?" he growled, keeping his head high to add to a snobbish image; he usually didn't go to such lengths to make himself look so conceited. On a normal day in his colony, he would simply stalk and glower. That was how people knew him. As grumpy, not arrogant.

'Zuni, her muzzle still hovering just over the surface of the water, couldn't help but imagine all the little fish in the pond as 'minions'; What use would that be? I guess you could order them to jump into your mouth. She snorted in derision at her own thought, disrupting the water and sending tiny droplets up onto her nose. At the same moment, drops spattered across her pelt as the leopard leaped to her side. 'Zuni slowly lifted her head and lazily tossed the leopard a disdainful look. She didn't mind getting wet, but she could do without him coming closer. She disliked other creatures being near her - it always made her pelt prickle. And, come to think of it, she wasn't overly fond of this particular creature regardless of his proximity. When he asked for her name, 'Zuni tensed. It was her natural reaction when anyone asked her for personal details. Why should he care what my name is? I don't care what his name is. Unless - no. He couldn't possibly... Her father had always considered other felines below lions; but, if he was having difficulty finding his surviving children (which, obviously, he was), then maybe he would force these felines to help him. She narrowed her eyes, deciding after some thought not to give the leopard her false name. She'd rather he had no name for her at all. "Aw, did you want to be friends?," she mocked, pushing aside her frightening suspicion and returning his snobbery. Lollipop x L u x u r y I forgot one of the quotation marks so... this is a few days past due lol

Obviously, friendly and good intentions got him no where.
Eyes narrowing, he frowned at the lioness, quite put off by her returned choice of words. Straightening up further, he glowered at her. "No name, then?" he replied, deciding to completely disregard her mock. Sitting down, he lifted a paw to clean it, hoping to send off the image that he wasn't at all threatened by the likes of her. "I suppose I'll just have to name you myself, won't I?"
Pretending to give deep thought to the name, he stared at her with a bit of a smirk. "Most of the youths in my colony have better observation skills than you, it seems. I think Cub will be a perfectly suitable name," he stated in a offhanded tone before crouching down to lap up some water.

While the word 'cub' almost sent her reeling with horrible memories and caused the fur along her spine to lift, 'Zuni wasn't ruffled by the nickname itself.
"Only if I can call you Spot," she returned, any hostility gone from her voice. Zuni was unaccustomed to even speaking to others, let alone being snippy, and had quickly lost her zeal. The leopard may have a bit of an attitude but he didn't seem actually threatening.
The black-and-white feline's scent had slowly wafted its way to her nose and she opened her mouth slightly to let it bathe her tongue. Like it or not she couldn't quash the instinct to get to know his smell - paranoid habit. She wrinkled her nose at the odd, distinguished scent of leopard and decided not to bring it up.
Zuni couldn't imagine that telling this strange creature that he smelled funny would help their relationship.

Zuberi'amiri blinked at the response, choking on the water as he bolted straight up. He stared at her, frowning at the name. "Spot?" he echoed in a voice of disgusted disbelief. "I can't even begin to imagine what you would name your children, if this is how far your creativity extends," He told her dryly, dark eyes watching her.
Observing the little action she did, he didn't know whether he should be miffed or not at the wrinkling of his nose. Did he stink? After giving it a second more of thought, he decided he didn't quite care. He wasn't out to impress her. "My name is Amiri," he told her, not daring to supply his full name. His mother's fondness of rhyming names had left him many jokes and teases growing up. He had no intentions on supplying the lioness more to remark on.

'Zuni hadn't even begun to think about having cubs - especially considering she was terrified of male lions. She supposed she would like to have cubs but it would be difficult without a mate. Now isn't really the time, she chided herself.
Her ear twitched as the leopard spoke again, and surprisingly enough gave his name. Zuni sat and studied Amiri's face for any hints of malice; while he wasn't overly 'friendly', he didn't seem to have any hidden motives. That was the most important thing.
"I'm Kisiri." With how much she used the pseudonym, it came more naturally to her than her real name. As usual, a ripple of discomfort passed through her pelt at giving out any identity. She waited, slightly tensed, even though she was fairly certain she wouldn't be recognized.
