Welcome to Tariq, The Oceanic Planet.

Here, the waters cover the entire planet from corner to corner. People of excellent heritage are born into the capital city, Mahrus, a structurally stable utopia built upon the calm waters of the Middle Ocean. The majority of the people on Tariq are born and live on the traveling ships surrounding the Capital. Some choose the life of a pirate, searching for the precious metals of Tariq, and journey off into the sea with their own ship and crew, while others choose the nobler path of the sea and become crew to the most prestigious military ships in all of Tariq for the sake of protecting the citizens of Mahrus and the four seas.

Tariq is the birth place of the Neo-Arabian culture where all are welcomed into society with open arms. Although the space-immigrants from old earth have given up their Islamic religious views from the past, the traditions, fashions and culture have not dwindled from those 5000 years ago in the Ancient Middle East. They have major trade relations with Old Earth and have created their own era of sea faring travelers.

Now, on Tariq, dawns the new era of the Neo-Arab Pirate.

User ImageThe Essam Sea is the most perilous and difficult to navigate out of the four seas. Throughout the ocean are rocks and underwater mountains that just out of the ocean and have created complicated and thin rivers and currents in between them. The sea is unapproachable to the Nabil Gentry and Noble Ships. Their hulls are too wide and they cannot maneuver quickly enough to ride the currents. But pirate ships and occasional peasant ships are perfect for this sea because their ships can move better in fast moving waters and maneuvers incredibly well. For this reason, pirate ships will often escape capture from the Nabil and hide from the larger ships. The rocks are a great hiding spot for the pirate ships and have natural barriers and landings to aid the pirates even more. But, the ships must have a skilled crew to roam the Essam Sea, through the rocks without crashing and damaging their hulls. The sea was named Essam, meaning 'Stronghold', because of this.

User ImageThe Zyad Sea is the richest sea in Tariq. It holds most of the precious metals and treasures within it, thus the name Zyad, meaning 'abundance'. But, the waters are shallow and only accessible by foot. Many pirates and peasants come here to search the shallow waters, while the Nabil come to hunt the worst of all pirates. Some nobles have come into the waters (in water protection, of course) to set up and lead their servants and the Nabil for their underwater mining projects. Many fights between the three groups often occur. Those who die here are left in the water, leaving all their treasures behind. Later on they are looted and discarded. The Zyad Sea is home to the smaller creatures and bottom feeders that thrive in shallow waters.

User ImageThe Zubayr Sea is the most unpredictable sea. Zubayr means Strong, Smart and Powerful, not only because of the thriving sea monsters and plant life, but also the ever-changing climates that make it uneasy to navigate and predict. Only a navigator with experience would know the changes by heart. Often times, the ships are attacked by sea monsters. Only a few strong crews would be able to combat them from their ships. Most ships steer clear of this sea. Pirates with serious wanderlust go here to find the most precious item in all of Tariq: jewels from the brows of the Jormungand, a giant sea serpent that could stretch 100 times across one Noble Ship. Jormungand has been a legend for ages from Old Earth, and have resurfaced as one ship reported the giant serpent in the waters. But, the serpent is not easy to find. It swims deep underwater, around all the five seas and rarely comes to the surface. Some would spend a lifetime looking for it. Some nobles will come here with armies looking for the Jormungand, but often damage the wildlife that they come across.

User ImageThe Aysha Sea is also known as the cold sea. Aysha means Alive & Well, an ironic name because the these waters are cold and dead. Not many creatures live here in this place. The fiercest sea monsters live here or are frozen in the ice. Nobody would voluntarily sail here. The strongest of Tariq inhabitants venture here. Only the purely strong live here. Jormungand destroys all who come to challenge him in this place.

User ImageThe Middle ocean is the calmest and clearest of all Tariq. The first Tariqan Sultan wanted to live here, so he built the floating city of Mahrus in the center of Middle Ocean. This is the most populated area, with peasant, Nabil and Noble ships surround the Capital. But, the resources are so limited here. The sea creatures have gone and only have common fish in excess. The ocean floors have been mined until there is only useless bedrock. The Nabil Gentry patrol this sea more profusely than any other sea. The Capital is well protected here.

User ImageThe Peasant:
These are the normal citizens of the five seas. They are the general population of the Tariq that live on the Middle Sea, or for the more daring, live a dangerous but profitable life on the outer four oceans, hunting sea monsters and selling their wares on the sea-market. The Sea-Citizens of Tariq have the most diverse population, with the potential to become whatever they want to be. The Sea-Peasants can are the most versatile when it comes to role switching and experience. Their ships are made to whether any kind of action it may undergo, and built for long-lasting durability. They usually house small families and other companions. They may choose any occupation they please. Peasants are not allowed in the Mahrus, unless with invitation from the Sultan or the Noble Class. Even with that, they cannot stay for too long. It is the same for everyone else in exception to the nobles and some high ranking Nabil Gentry Officers.

User ImageThe Pirate:
These are the few people on the planet who dare to venture far from the safety waters of the Middle Ocean to venture the open seas. On these ships, a true form of brotherhood is formed, and often crew members are together until death under oath of the captain. But, not all are like this. There are different kinds of pirates in the seas, most choose a life of crime and conquering other ships. Others may be in it for the metal hunting (and sometimes treasure hunting). Ever since the new pirates have become infamous for their captures of ships and murders of peasants and Nabil officers, all pirate ships are to be searched for as fugitives for and combated to destroy. Pirate ships are built for speed and litheness to navigate difficult waters with ease, and yet be undetected by the radars of the Noble and Nabil Gentry Patrol Ships. They always uphold pride in their ship and the honor of each man. Many of these men are aspiring peasants who have earned their spot on their captain's crew, or have had previous experience as a Nabil guard or soldier. Each crew member is marked with their own symbol with a tattoo or a bandana.

User Image
The Nabil Gentry:
The Nabil Gentry is the Ocean Guard of Tariq. Peasant children dream of being apart of these elite men. The Nabil hold the strictest of regulations and many willing soldiers are dismissed from the force once the higher officials see any type of major weakness that makes them unable to do their jobs. The Nabil is divided into two main sectors. Sector 1 has pledged to protect the citizens of the sea, whether it's from sea monsters or from pillaging pirates, they will attack all. Many idle pirate ships are captured by them and all pirates are put to court and eventually death. The other sector is the Noble Guard Sector. Their only mission is to protect the nobles at all costs. Their ships often accompany the Noble Strong Ships and patrol the Middle Sea around Mahrus. Their ships are sturdy and are built for battle, especially attack. Their hull is made out of the strongest material in all of Tariq, Ardinum. Some come in fleets while others come only in single ships.

User Image
The Nobles:
The Nobles are the governors' family and friends, or those who are rich enough to live on the capital. They all live on Mahrus and have the highest standard of living. The children are the most educated and often grow up with prejudices against peasants who are not as wealthy or educated as them. They also believe that all pirates are crime-committing, damned abominations. They often compare them to trash. The Nobles often live idle lives and become high government officials once they reach a certain age. These men are the minds of the Nabil Gentry and they control every action that they take. They may not have any experience outside the capital, but they control everything with their money. The Nobles have no limit to their political power. Their ships are amazingly decorated and are built with the the finest materials imported from earth. It's ridiculously large as well. The interior is much like a cruise with their own ballroom and dining hall, but for their protection it also has large guns from the front pointed at all angles. At the front of the ships are large titanium panels that fold across it like a shield. Usually, a noble family will have a symbolic animal in the front of it's bow, indicating the lineage of its prosperous owners (But for your pictures, you don't have to find a ship with an animal).

Pirates:
User Image

Name: Mara DeFenago
Gender: Female
Age: Twenty-Four
Status: Pirate
Sub-Status: Captain
Ship Name and Symbols: Bint Kanun Illau'wal; Ӝ
Personality: Mara is naturally kind of a tomboy. She has to have a tough attitude to retain her position on the ship, as mutiny is not uncommon- among pirates especially. She can be understanding when the situation calls for it, but she knows how to be harsh, and doesn't take anyone's crap.
Biography: Captain Mara DeFenago is one of the most notorious pirates of the five seas, though she mostly sticks to the Essam Sea and the Zubayr Sea, entering even the very edges of the Middle Sea as rarely as she can possibly manage. Thus far she and her crew, aboard their vessel Bint Kanun Illau'wal or, Daughter of December, have managed to avoid the clutches of the Nabil Gentry. Her crew contains a tactful navigator, and her ship is built for the careful maneuverings necessary to wind through the ocean-mountains of the Essam. Mara's first name is not known to most outside a few overly trusted members of her crew. Many only know of the name DeFenago. Atop her ship flies a flag with the Greek letter: Ӝ. Each of her crew members also bears this tattoo somewhere on their body; Mara's is on her left shoulder, usually covered by her clothes.

Mara was raised on a peasant ship. Her family descended from ancient Spain. Her Spanish blood is many years diluted by now, but the name still remains. Her father's merchant ship was raided by pirates when she was very small and her parents killed. She was taken aboard the ship, expected to be of some service to the crew when she was older. However, as she grew, she made her way up the ranks instead, clawing her way to the top before any of these previously made plans could occur. Finally she became Captain, and had the ship modified to her taste.

Extra Perks and Information: Mara can fight as well as any man, being a pirate captain, and often wears trousers and a baggy white shirt under her traditional clothing in case of the need to have her arms and legs free of extra fabric.
Appearance: Mara is normally found wearing a traditional dress in dark grey. Her various jewelry is a symbol of her raids, as most of it was acquired through pirate-y means. She wears either fitting leather boots, or no shoes at all under her dress, and always wears trousers underneath.

Name: Junoree 'Juno' Panne
Gender: Male
Age: Eighteen
Status: Pirate
Sub-Status: Striker(hunter)
Ship Name and Symbols: Bint Kanun Illau'wal; Ӝ
Personality: Juno is a generally pretty happy kid. He doesn't get down easily, and is very optimistic. However, he does know how to 'speak pirate'.
Biography: Juno is the youngest member of DeFenago's crew, and also the Striker for the ship. Meaning he brings in the food. Juno is in charge of the hunting, and will often jump into the waters in order to attack the creatures within. Usually this includes sea turtles, manatees, and even sharks or very large fish. The boy takes his job very seriously, and the crew makes sure he never gets left behind. Normally the crewmen lower a net to the sea for Juno to put his catches in, and eventually they haul both he and the sea creatures back up to the deck. Due to his skill in hunting, Juno is an excellent fighter, and is often underestimated as an actual crew member. Juno is also a bit of a monkey, and likes to climb around on the ship.
Extra Perks and Information: Juno stowed away on the pirate ship at the age of fourteen when his ship was commandeered by DeFenago and her crew. He was able to sneak on in the madness.

Peasants:
User Image

Name: Jesep Ramos
Gender: Male
Age: 28
Status: Civilian
Sub-Status: Weapons Merchant
Personality: He is a charming businessman. He is well known to the most powerful ships for he supplies them with their weapons of destruction. He's a brilliant inventor that makes up all these weapons. But, he's not just a genius, he loves to get to know people as well. He has many connections, which makes him an important man. He's friendly and deals with conflict well when it comes to disagreements. He is especially interested in the politics of the Capital and always subtly inquires about a certain Fleet Admiral. He's a lady killer, but never serious. He's optimistic and wise. He never lets an opportunity go and understands things very quickly. He's a pacifist, but not afraid to get aggressive when it comes to protecting Raina. Sometimes, which is actually a lot of times, he becomes playful and borderline stupid.
Biography: Jesep began as a deck-swabber on the ship of the Ronalties. He wanted to find work as an orphaned child and this was where it lead him. Working with him was a despondent girl, a few years older than Jesep was. A small friendship was formed between the two working companions. They laughed together and had good times playing pranks on the crew. But he knew she was still sad and lonely. He didn't know what caused it. Years went by on that ship and the two started to grow apart. Jesep was still a deck-swabber while she rose in the ranks of the ship, closer to the captain. This is where he began to create little trinkets and played with mechanisms to spend his idle breaks.
But, then something happened. The captain died and she had been seen out on the deck less and less. He wondered where she had gone. At last, he found her burst out of the Captain's cabin with Captain Rojei's blood on her hands. Jesep didn't care much for Rojei, and immediately helped her to the infirmary with another man, Sahid. After a day, the ship has grown restless and attacked the cabin they were in. He tried to fight back, but before he could do anything, the girl was already attacking the men. In the end, she destroyed the men and brought the ship to the Nabil for a bounty. He was with her when the Nabil accepted her. When she asked him to join her in the ranks, he refused her and gave a last farewell before he went back to the sea.

Jesep had always had a knack for making things and inventing. His specialty is weaponry. Every since he had left that ship, he had gone under an apprenticeship of an renown weapon smith. After that, he left on his own to explore the world and make his own way. For now, he's a merchant selling his wares and knowledge from ship to ship. Pirates or civilian ships, he doesn't really care for either. His life has gone from ship to ship meeting new people and finding new places.

Name: Raina Cervantes
Gender: Female
Age: 17
Status: Peasant
Sub-Status: Weapons Merchant
Personality: She's a very optimistic girl who love to laugh and have fun. She is just like Jesep, her mentor, when he was young. Especially when it comes to her friendliness and love for getting to know people. She is interested in a lot of things around her and is very ambitious. She loves her lifestyle with Jesep moving ship to ship. She meets a lot of new people and does amazing new things.
But, she especially loves thrills. She loves jumping off the bows of ships and diving into the glassy waters. She's and excellent swimmer. She loves the feeling of falling and flying and is very fast paced. All she wants to do is have fun sometimes. She loves life. She is very patient when it comes to Jesep's occasional eccentricity and his long evening deal-making. Although, he's the only one who usually feels the wrath of her annoyance.
At times, she does feel a bit insecure, and Jesep isn't always there to catch her when she falls into despair and embarrassment.

She's sweet and caring and loves the taste of sea monster. She's very talented with a spear, in both martial arts and fishing. Her dream is to hunt down and capture Jormungand, not for its jewels, but because she wants to taste the flavor of the rarest fish in the sea.

Biography: Raina was born into a peasant family in the Zubayr Sea. Her family hunted many sea monsters and sold it on the fish market. She learned how to use a spear when she was little so that she could catch her own fish. She eventually took care of herself. When she was 15, she left her family in search of the Jormungand.

Her family laughed at her, but knowing she was a free spirit, they let her go. She left, ignoring their mocking giggles, with a small fishing boat and her trusty spear. For a while, she drifted across the sea, feeding herself with fish and occasionally visiting other peasant ships for rest.
One day, her fishing boat became so worn that the hull broke and started to capsize. Raina fell into the water and was ship-less. She also lost her spear to the sea in attempt to save the boat. She floated on a piece of driftwood for 2 days, passed out in the middle of the empty sea. This is where Jesep Ramos found her. He rescued her when he had his own small little boat dinghy.
She had gotten well but didn't trust him at first. His kindness made her decide to stay with Jesep so she can sail the seas with him. He had made her a new spear, retractable too so that it was a dangerous knife and well as a long spear. He became her mentor and an older brother to her. He taught her things about the world that she never knew of. Once the dinghy stopped being usable, they started ship hopping. Raina had a lot of fun when they started to do this.
Sometimes. she does miss her family, but she has a new family now, and she would follow him to the corners of Tariq if he needed.

Nabil Gentry:

User Image

Name: Zahira Amani
Gender: Female
Age: 35
Status: Nabil Gentry
Sub-Status: Fleet Admiral
Ship Name and Symbols: Wanid Mustafa "The Wani", 𝖂𝕸
Personality: She's cold hearted, ruthless, efficient and brilliant. She is not easily amused and especially observant. Her work is extremely detail oriented and her word in the Nabil Gentry is absolute. She loves playing games and often loves to pamper herself. She is mostly found within her ship relaxing in her exfoliating spa or on her couch, reading. But, when she is busy with warfare and work, she is the most terrifying thing you will ever see. Not only is she brilliant, she can defeat even the strongest in the Nabil, which was one of the requirements to be the admiral. Although, she is not very hard working. She prefers to be efficient and precise in her movements. She gets in a rather angry mood when her plans go awry or her crew is not meeting her requirements. She demands as much as she delivers. Her ultimate weakness has not been discovered to anyone except her closest companion, Sahid. She holds a horrifying secret that would bring her to ruin if it were known.
Biography: She was born on Old Earth with a normal family and parents. 6 years later, the family took the space-immigrant shuttles to Tariq. The shuttle was unfortunately hijacked by strange men that called themselves the Ronalties, a group of men that were planning to become terrorizing pirates once they reached Tariq. The Ronalties eventually killed most of the people on board, but Zahira had hidden in one of the compartments away from view. Inside, she had waited for 2 weeks alone, scared and hungry. The Ronalties had discovered Zahira in the compartment emaciated and near death. They had fed her, and made her apart of their crew as a servant girl once they reached Tariq. They landed in the Essam Sea, where they stayed and built their ship upon the rocks. She had stayed involuntarily, for they told her that they were holding her parents as hostage. They said that if she worked for them, then they wouldn't kill them. She worked for them for 9 years without even seeing a glimpse of her parents. Eventually she became a part of her crew, learning their ways and hunting other ships down for their shining splendors. She became the best attacker on the ship. Eventually, the captain had trusted her to be the on same level of his first mate. But, she was still a servant girl and she never forgot her parents.

Soon, she became older and more woman-like. The crew started to notice. She could definitely defend herself from the cheap flirting and remarks. They were harmless. The real problem was the first mate, Rojei Morgas. Rojei had made many advances on her and has tried to force himself on her many times. At last, she had gotten tired of it and had gone to the captain to ask for her freedom, as well as her parents. At the time, the Captain had been bed-ridden with disease and could barely speak. Zahira had asked for her freedom, but before he said anything, he passed. With tears and anger, she had tried to flee, but Rojei was the captain now. He refused to let her go and locked her up. With much energy she had escaped and tried to leave the ship again, where Rojei had captured her and confronted her. She demanded him to give her her parents, and he did, throwing a bag of bones and decaying flesh at her. She became angry, but did not have the strength to fight him. Rojei had overpowered her and eventually brought her to the Captain's bunk where raped her. There, she stayed emotionless for weeks, blocking out any type of emotion or harm that has been inflicted on her. She attempted suicide more than a few times. The crew had no idea what was happening. Finally, after another meeting with the bones, she had found her resolve. Rojei called her to his cabin for more satisfaction, where she then bludgeoned him with her parent's remains.
As she emerged the cabin, bloodied and crazed, the crew arose in panic. She had just killed their captain. Her crew became angry and attempted an immediate mutiny as she was helped by only a couple of her true supporters. While she was in bed resting, the crew attacked her cabin. She arose in panic and anger. How disgusting these men were to her. Then, she stole the sword form Rojei's cold body and bombarded them all in a brilliant display of quick slashes and sprays of blood. The Ronalties were extinct by morning. The survivors, counting only the two mates who had helped her to recover, had survived and understood why Zahira had gone berserk. They became her loyal followers as she took command of the ship. Zahira brought the Ronalties to the Nabil Gentry, and to much of their surprise, all dead, with her as their murderer. She was welcomed into the Nabil Gentry very quickly. One of her shipmates had left her and stayed with the sea while the other stayed by her side until this very day. Zahira quickly rose in ranks of the Nabil. At age 18, she became Commander. At age 20, she became Vice Admiral. It was in no time before she became Fleet Admiral. She hides her past from the public and only despairs to her loyal companion, who has and always will be with her.
Extra Perks and Information: Rumor has it that she hangs the bag of her parents bones and Rojei Morgas' head above her fireplace, and still uses his handy sword in her most intense man-to-man battles and executions.

Name: Sahid Ronalti
Gender: Male
Age: 40
Status: Nabil Gentry
Sub-Status: Vice Admiral
Ship Name and Symbols: Wanid Mustafa "The Wani", 𝖂𝕸
Personality: He's a very reserved man and only speaks when he needs to. His loyalty to Zahira can match no one's. He stays by her side at all times and would do anything for her, sometimes even endure her torture. He is known for his flirtatious looks he gives to almost everybody, making a target for interested young woman and even more curious men. You can say he's a bit of a player, but in the end, Zahira is the only one for him. Many times he gives way to Zahira's temptations for he loves and cares for her deeply. But, scenes from long ago of her turmoil and suffering causes him to keep an emotional distance from Zahira, which pains him, but steadies him. That is what makes him a useful advisor to Zahira. He knows how to overlook a situation with ease and Zahira likes his efficiency. Whenever Zahira is indangered, Sahid becomes a very fierce man and fights his hardest to protect her. When she is in danger of someone else's interest, he becomes an extremely jealous man and very irritable.
Biography: Sahid was the son of Captain Ronalti on the Ronalties ship when Zahira came on board. He did not like her presence on the ship since he was a child, deeming her a nuisance due to her womanhood. Sahid became the least welcoming on the ship and refused to accept Zahira as a crewmate. He never understood why his father would cut such a deal with her. But, as time went on, Sahid became more impressed with Zahira and had developed a secret admiration and affection towards the girl. The only problem was that he had not spoken to her very much and was very jealous of anyone that showed her any kind of interest, serious or not. He was especially jealous of Jesep, the deck-swabber who spent most of his time with her. As they got older Zahira had developed a friendship and loyalty to Sahid's father and as a result, Sahid and Zahira spent much more time together, even if it wasn't as romantic as Sahid had wanted. They were both still merely crewmates and he was stuck with his unrequited love for her.
When his father died, Sahid planned to leave with Zahira when she would be granted freedom, but when Rojei Morgas did the unexpected and Zahira disappeared, he was overcome with worry. It was only until Zahira had been let free had he realized what had happened to her. He helped her out of the Captain's quarter's and into the infirmary, where he had no idea what was happening and what he should do. He still loved her, no matter how tainted she was at that point and was angry that anyone would do a thing like that to his precious girl. As the crew attacked, he was knocked unconscious during a fight trying to protect her. When he woke up, the whole crew was silent and dead. Shocked at Zahira's mental breakdown, he embraced her and promised to never leave her side and to always take care of her no matter what the circumstances. She returned his affections and put all her trust in him, her most loyal companion. From there he watched over her and loved her passionately as she rose to the highest position in the military.
Extra Perks and Information: Zahira's mental health is his top priority and sometimes has to resort to hypnotism to calm her state.

Name: Nivaliy 'Vali' Al Bokqui
Gender: Male
Age: Twenty-Six
Status: Nobility
Sub-Status: Prince
Ship Name and Symbols: Akh Masha'allah; ɮ
Personality: Prince Vali is very confident, and this sometimes comes across as being cocky, though he doesn't try to be cocky. He is also rather naive. It is also safe to say that the Prince is adventurous and daring. He constantly pushes the Captain of his ship to take him into more dangerous waters(although without much luck).
Biography: Prince Nivaliy is the Sultan's son. He spends more time on his ship, Brother of God's Will, than he spends with his father at home in Mahrus. Although he finds the Capital city absolutely beautiful, he finds more excitement in the open waters. His ship is often guarded by many Gentry ships, but this doesn't make him feel any less of a sailor. He is very confident in his actions, and sometimes gets mistaken as being rude and snobby, though he doesn't mean to be. He also has a hard time accepting the reality of life in the real world, and doesn't particularly understand the harsh way that the Gentry treats those lesser than themselves. He also is not very well versed in the game of politics. Mostly, the Prince is just along for his little fantasy adventure ride. His ship sticks mostly to the Middle Ocean and occasionally drifts through parts of the Zyad Sea, though his guards are careful not to get him into anything too difficult to get out of.
Extra Perks and Information: Vali's father, the Sultan, wants him to start learning the ropes of politics, but he would rather travel the seas.

Out where the stones stand up like thrones beside the ocean,
Out where the waves make a grave of the sea,
The lovers struggled in the middle of the tempest,
And water angrily
crawled up onto the beach...

Captain Mara DeFenago stood near the navigator of her ship, telling the man where she wanted to go. The Zubayr Sea was relatively calm just now, though a salty and quickening breeze suggested a change to that within hours. The Captain planned to circle around the Zyad Sea, entering only the fringes of the Middle Ocean, to reach the far over Essam Sea, where there lay a hidden cavern in the mountains that contained their loot; any pirate would be stupid to store their bounty on their ship. Especially with the Gentry patrolling everything they could reach. The Essam Sea was the only remotely safe sea for any pirate.

The navigator swung the large wooden beast around, to face the direction she needed to be. One could feel the resistance the wind gave, trying to force her back the way she had been headed. The flag topping the center-most mast of the ship waved and flapped high above the deck, bearing the symbol of DeFenago the pirate. It wasn't a particularly fearsome flag, in simple black and white, but the giant 'Ӝ' was enough to make any passing ship give them a wide berth, or even turn about completely.

When Mara was satisfied that the ship was once again on the course she approved of, she headed down to the deck, walking among the crew to be sure they were doing their part in preparing for the hastening winds. If they were not careful, the coming gale could catch them by surprise.

Said, hold my hand and stay with me, We'll be released.
But the tide clung
like an anchor to her feet,
And though he tried to make
the water line recede,
It pulled
her out into the sea.

He could not break apart the waves to bring her safely back in,
He
watched her hand break through the surface once,
Then disappear again.
Forever
wait inside the sea for my, my dear,
I hear you;
You speak in every curling wave,

And sing in every violent breeze...

envy you and I...❞

Juno Panne made his way up the netting on the side of the mast, crawling like a monkey. He was heading towards the birds nest where the lookout sat. Before he had quite reached the top, he hooked his legs through the squares, squeezing them tightly around, and dropped backwards, letting himself hang upside down. For a split second the boy felt the adrenaline rush of falling, until he felt the netting at his back. The sea looked strange upside down. He found it funny. Sometimes one had to entertain himself on a pirate ship; especially when everyone was preparing for the coming storm, and busy turning the ship for the Essam Sea. Juno was not a part of these rituals, as his ability lay in hunting for their food- which did not need doing at the moment.

Juno sighed and swung right-side-up again, continuing his monkey crawl to the lookout post. He climbed up the little hatch into the large barrel-shaped structure surrounding the center mast of the ship. The lookout man at the top ignored his presence, as he usually did unless Juno spoke first. The lookout was not a man to make small-talk; which was why he had chosen the position. It was far from the rest of the ship. Panne went to the opposite side, and looked out over the sea. There were no creatures jumping in the roughening waters below. They could sense the storm coming, and were smart to stay clear of the surface that would soon be roiling.

--Raina Cervantes--

Raina Cervantes lifted her head out of the dinghy. It was starting to rain. They haven't been with food for days since she and Jesep got kicked off the previous peasant ship that they were on. Those jerks. She urged Jesep to wake up and ready the small boat, but he wouldn't move. "Joey! Wake up there's a storm coming." The clouds were gradually getting darker. "C'mon already, wake up!" She pushed him on his back, limbs stretching the full length of the dinghy.

"Mmph", was all the sleepy man said as they were about to face their doom.

Raina sighed. At least he's not dead. Raina searched the waters for life. She spun back and forth searching for anybody who could help them during the storm. She squinted as she tried to see through the uneven sea. It was four long and dangerous minutes before she spotted the a ship. "Joey!!!", she called back at the sleeping idiot. It took a lot of breath out of her. She waved her arms back and forth with the rest of her strength hoping that the ship would see them. The intense bobbing of the ship left Raina dizzy and nauseous. She fell over.

"Augh." She now lay next to Jesep who was still in a deep coma. She felt herself annoyed from lack of food and frustration. She sat up and slapped him in the stomach as hard has she could. The winds were picking up. She fell down in exhaustion before she could even see his reaction.

--Jesep Ramos--

Jesep awoke from Raina's blow to his stomach. His body immediately lurched forward and his head hit the planks.

"RAINA!" He yelled in pain. The open-palmed strike nearly knocked the wind out of him. As he recovered, he looked beside him to see her unconscious, collapsed from exhaustion and hanging over the boat. The storm winds were pushing him back wards. He pulled Raina's body fully back into the boat. "Gosh, Raina. You should have woken me up." He felt a tight grip on his ankle. When he looked down, he saw a small hand grasping his leg while scary, hungry eyes stared at him angrily.

She pointed him towards the boat she saw earlier. He took the tired hint and started waving his arms at it while the girl's body lost all energy and fell again. This was getting serious. "HEY! HEY!" He tried to call out to it, but the sound of the waves and the wind were too overpowering. Please see us, he thought.

Juno held on to the edge of the birds nest, making his way back around near the lookout man. The ship was beginning to rock, and the gusts blew harder far above the deck as they were. The boy squinted out across the boiling waters. Far in the distance he spotted a small dot on the horizon. Thinking it must be a serpent, he nudged the lookout. "Hey, what is that? Out on the horizon?" He asked frowning, pointing out at the object. The lookout raised his telescope to his eye and pointed it in the direction Juno had motioned to. "Boat." The man grunted, never saying much even in the most dire of times. "Looks like people, too."

Juno quickly called down the mast, leaning over the edge of the birds nest. "HEY! CAPTAIN!" He waited a moment. She didn't seem to hear. The gusts were blowing away his words. He quickly scampered back down the net, and raced across the deck to where the captain was checking to make sure the ropes were tied properly. "Captain!" He called out as he came within hearing distance. She looked up at him, concern on her face. Juno pointed in the direction they were headed, to the boat on the horizon. "There's a couple of people out there. In a small boat. They'll never survive the storm if we don't help them." The boy said frantically.

He watched the captain ponder for a moment, squinting at the horizon. Finally, she nodded and ran off towards the navigator at the front of the boat.

Out where the stones stand up like thrones beside the ocean,
Out where the waves make a grave of the sea,
The lovers struggled in the middle of the tempest,
And water angrily
crawled up onto the beach...

Mara crossed her arms at the man in front of her, watching the burly fellow wrap and knot the thick rope. It was very important that everything was secured tightly and without flaw in a storm of this size. "I dun car' what'at fella' o'er there thinks." The man was grumbling, referring to another sailor who's work he was having to redo because the knot was not tight enough. The other sailor had made it very clear that, in his opinion, this knot was better. The current sailor was disagreeing hardily, saying that 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it.' Which, in the captains eyes was understandable; she would rather be safe than sorry. "Dis 'ere Bowline is better'n'at abom'nation he calls a knot any day! Why I'd wager-

Suddenly the man was cut off in his rant by the ship's striker, Junoree Panne, shouting for her. Mara turned to face him as he came to a halt by her side, and told her frantically about the dinghy a few kilometers out. She squinted, searching the roiling horizon for the boat he pointed to, trying to find it in the mass of hurling waves. She knew the boy was right, that they would never survive the storm, and the part of her that gave a damn kicked in.

The captain nodded to Panne, and ran across the deck, back to the navigator, telling him to stay on track for the boat, and to do anything he could to reach them before the storm hit at it's full. Just then, she felt rain begin to splatter on her head, and saw droplets begin to stain the wood of the deck.

After what seemed like ages, the ship finally came up alongside the dinghy. DeFenago ordered a halt, and she raced to the side of the boat. "Throw out the ladder!" She called over the now sheeting rain. She turned out over the side of the deck and called down to the waving and exhausted-looking man on the boat. "Grab hold of the ladder! We'll haul you up!" The ship was practically jumping in the waves now, making it hard to keep anything straight. The rope ladder that was currently being loosened was swaying as well. A crack of thunder sounded, and the sky lit up in a bright flash. "And make it snappy!" Mara added, grumpily.
