Topics to Post: General Forum Announcements Guild Rules and Info (zOMG Clan, crew memebers, general links for reference, etc. Gonna be a locked thread.) RPing info. Character Sheets (For Basic all around the guild rping, other subforum rp's can have their own sheets, too.) Map History Current Events (Separate RP and Guild OOC events, maybe?)
Anyone got anything else to add besides the RPs?

Great, Barrens chat.
Anyway, those would be good thread to put up first. If locations get out of hand, we might need a map. If all areas are linked, a history thread might become necessary. Even if that isn't the case, current events might help.

Sounds good. Yeah, this is gonna be moved to Nostalgia once we get everything else set up, mainly just wanted an area where we can coalesce all our ideas that wasn't gonna stay.

Also, when we get new crew, we may want to set up a emailing list so we don't end up with the whole "Anyone got contact with so-and-so" thing we have right now.

I've added every other topic except the map. Jury is out on that one for now.
As a more pertinent discussion we should do some rule building and clarify just what we need to know about each character. Rather than refer to a mini rant in a previous topic, I would like to request that annoying s**t like posting styles, theme music, and "anime" pictures not be mandatory.
Since it's an Avatar RP, maybe link to Tektek for those who's avatar doesn't look the way they would want them to or do not have the funds to procure said items. Possibly even add a service to do it for those who lack the will or creativity to do it themselves. As for the other two things I requested not be mandatory: 1. If someone really likes posting styles, I don't mind, however I refuse to use anything more than colored text IF I even make any other characters. Since the Milde might still be around I'll probably use Brown for them again. 2. I don't listen to music, and I'm not gonna click on a Youtube or Grooveshark, whatever the hell playlist link someone provides anyway. All it does is make me wonder why the same music would exist in a world that is not our own? Also what would suggest that a character you make would listen to the exact same music as you and enjoy it. I mean if you're playing yourself, that's fine I guess but then it goes back to the first question for further confusion. Somehow ignoring all of that, theme music doesn't play constantly. Nobody's going to want to refer to it every time someone makes a post for their character and IF YOU LINK IT IN EVERY POST I WILL CHAINSAW YOUR THROAT OPEN ON A COLD START THEN STICK A FRAGMENTATION GRENADE IN THE HOLE!
*Cough*
As for the picture thing, being an Avatar RP should sort itself out immediately, unless someone is really that inattentive. Still, we could suggest a hosting site for those who regularly change their avatar or want to try on a new look.
Other than things like Age, height, weight or build, all of which could be relative if you want to keep some sort of ambiguity; it wouldn't hurt to at least have a clear set of skills and abilities. I'm sure anyone of the old crew could cite a situation in which they got pissed at someone else for springing new abilities in the heat of the moment, and I'm fairly certain I'm guilty of it at some point.
I'd bring up inventory, but I'm sure some don't have the interest in logistics to really want to concern themselves with all of their otherworldly possessions all at once.
Some kind of limit on power should be recommended. Oddplume is a deity but almost never taps into his divine abilities. Still, that kind of restraint can be easily forgotten on those without a lot of patience. Nobody has to be a run-of-the-mill, ground-walking, banana-eating sapien if they don't want to be though. I guess they just better have a clear sense of what their difference grants them and what it limits them to.
Just hopefully we can avoid too many contradictions, like how one can be a half angel, half demon when the corruption would just make them entirely demon, (Friggin erinyes...) or how someone can be half creeper and have not blown themselves up yet. Then there's the ever classic half vampire/werewolf/neko/elven/dwarven... nevermind. This post has gone on long enough anyway.

The different colored text for different characters is okay as long as it doesn't get out of control. We should say something like darker, neutral colors are required if someone wants to post that way, cause trying to read yellow or any other bright a** color puts way too much strain on my eyes. That, and they need to have a limit on how many character's they're posting as in a single post. If they want to have multiple NPC's, they should either create a second account (or third, fourth, etc.) and just use a different browser, or, best recent thing I found out about Chrome, they can just open up a new incognito window and log in to their second account that way. Can prolly do it with multiple windows, haven't tested it. Chrome is truly the best browser out right now.
The whole theme music thing I'm indifferent to mainly because I haven't seen it yet because I only go to my old haunts, and they're pretty dead. I'd say it should either be on their signature or on their character sheet, but left out of everyday posting. You can mention what song and artist your character might be listening to in your scene description, but if we want to hear it, we'll just look it up ourselves.
I wanted the character sheets to be established to mainly keep random powers from being pulled out of ones a**. Everyone escalates their character's abilities in a fight because they don't want to lose, but as we have seen in 'battles' with weaker RP'ers than ourselves, when someone pulls out an uber move their character never even hinted at training for or knowing, it takes all the fun out of the story.
We should establish that people can't just randomly kill NPC's that don't belong to them unless it's been worked out with the creator before hand, or, in rare cases, it completely makes sense in the storyline. If we start a RP where I make a bad guy and I'm not here during the final show down, it can be said that the bad guy can be killed in the storyline as long as it feels organic. This would have to be on super rare occasions though, and mainly through group consent if the creator is absent.
Inventory, general info, etc should be covered in the character sheet, but not super in depth. Just main items of power, defining features, general character mannerisms, just to help keep the character defined.

Uh, thanks for reminding me that one of Sigmaflamewave's characters is written in CYAN! Goddamnit it's like holding your head above a torch with your eyes wide open. Nah, yellow is still worse, like WAY worse.
Posting styles with all the ASCII clutter, color variances, and plagiarized poetry aren't particularly new, but went big right around the beginning of Tektek. I draw the line at using them to artificially stretch the page (Some people still have post length limits like a paragraph, or 5 sentence minimum, etc) to make it seem like there's more content or when it overwhelms the post itself. A particular issue is sort of beating into people's heads what your character looks like by including the picture EVERY SINGLE POST. My previous RP guild didn't do this, but the remake which is currently on life support has been doing this. I guess it's more of a player thing than a requirement issue.
Mandatory theme songs seems to be a fairly recent thing, maybe 2010 at most. I've been lurking about other RPing guilds for much of that time. I don't see Barton Town much, but at least historically common things that built up in Barton tend to bleed out into the guilds.
Those criteria I requested not be mandatory were commonly deterrents for me in considering joining RPs. Well, along with the laziest and dumbest ******** writing this side of fanfic.net.
I'm too goddamn lazy to try to find anime pictures that look slightly like my characters. It's a ******** headache, but that's a rant for another time.
There's also changing profile wording for character sheets to make it seem like conversation even though it doesn't read at all like someone above the age of 4 would speak, and the creator often has to explain what each category means anyway. Idiots. That's another rant for another time too. I've got a million of em.
As for character limits, I would suggest no more than 4 per account. It's what we did in my dead RP guild, and I was doing fine with just 3 until the character limit was raised to 4. When that occurred, I had to make a 4th because it was a major story character, and I only had to do THAT because the previous VC at the time got himself banned for filing a fraudulent hacking report. Eh, he was a stupid godmodding a*****e too, so good riddance. Technically I had control over major guild NPCs (basically an extra guild account and I think it had around 6 total fleshed out NPCs at the time) and a total of 8 characters I owned on top of that across 2 accounts. (********! No wonder I got sick of creating characters!) I think the max in the rewrite is still 4 but I scraped together one and haven't posted in two months.
I agree with the NPC thing though. We might do well to establish some well varied villains-of-the-day while we're at it. It doesn't have to be some campy Sailor Moon daily super-villainy crap, but it could at least help keep us sharp.

Ok, so aside from the Rules and Guidelines for Gaia and your NPC clause, what do we really need to add to rules?
We want the standard, No godmodding, no metagaming... Ya know, in another guild I joined, there is a stockpile of guides about this. The place is collecting dust now though. It's like an ancient library.
Nobody really died here. Like even if they did, resurrection came fairly quick.

Yeah, no one died here, mainly because we all respected each other's characters, main and NPC alike. I think the few deaths that did occur were completely by the player themselves and their own controlled NPC.
Let's say there should only be 3 (in a storyline) Characters per account (Main and 2 NPC's) for now, and tweak it as neccessary. Obviously background characters that don't even have names can be used to enhance the scene, and there's no real limit on them.
I think we're pretty good for now, if anything else comes up, we can always address it then.

Whelp, I was trying to reclaim all my old accounts, and I guess Gaia started putting locks on account that have been inactive for more than 60 months. I got Guy and Gill back, but Simmons is gone.
