I've looked at a few different things in this guild about meditation and they all seem really helpful, but I still have a few questions. From what I understand, meditation is supposed to be about quieting your mind and letting it just go completely blank. I don't understand how to do that... Basically, what I'm asking is what is the best way to start meditating? Sorry if this is worded awkwardly, I'm not sure how to do it better...

If you're aiming for that blankness of mind you need to become aware of your thoughts. Just sit quietly and observe what's going on in your mind from an outside perspective. When you notice you've drifted away in thought just bring yourself back to watching. Eventually you'll get good enough at watching and not becoming attached to thoughts that your mind will cease to produce the random chatter and noise that we are so used to.

In short, you don't clear your mind. Your mind clears itself when you've reached a certain level of awareness.

Meditation isn't just about quieting your mind though. Meditation comes in many different forms and techniques. Sitting quietly just letting experiencing the thoughts as they come into your mind is a type of meditation. Contemplating an idea long and hard is meditation. Getting into an altered state of mind is really all meditation requires.

I was thinking of starting a meditation circle sort of like the Speak And Spell project. Where every few weeks we'd have a new technique, thought, or practice to try and explore. Some may be simple and some may be more like activities.

Oh hellos~ I think it would be an amazing idea! Since many of us have different techniques of how to meditate it would be great if people that are having trouble will put into practice some of 'these techniques' until they find the one that works!
