Greetings again in the name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ!
It is a joy to share the word of God with others from the Holy Spirit inspired scriptures and from the melodies and words of well known Hymns and Anthems found in Hymnals in most of our house of worship.
Often, the third verse of many gospel hymns are either ignored or forgotten.
Please allow me to open up verse three of Stand up, Stand up for Jesus to you and dig into the deeper meaning of what our standing up for Jesus really means.
"Stand up, stand up for Jesus, stand in His strength alone; The arms of flesh will fail you, Ye dare not trust your own. Put on the Gospel armor, and watching unto prayer, Where duty calls, or danger, Be never wanting there."
Is there a basis of scripture from which to call us to obedience and trust in our Creator, Sustainer and Savior?
Let's look at Ephesians 6:10-17.
(Check this out.) "Finally my brethan, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against pricipalities, against powers, against the rulers of darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places."
*Notice, if we are singing songs like Stand up for Jesus, we need to give our whole lives over to His will and His purpose and trust in Him fully and without resvervation and KNOW that He fights our battles. We simply stand FOR Him and WITH Him.
Let's read on: "Wherefore take unto you the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, having done all, to STAND.
STAND THEREFORE, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of savation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:"
If we are to stand for and with Jesus, we must stand firm on God's Word and His promises for our eternal place in glory.
We must, in spite of our diverse personalities, abilities, and differences come together as ONE in spirit and in truth. If we fail to stand for Jesus, we could very well fall for anything.
May God bring us together under His protective arms and unite us in love, purpose, and will.
May we stand daily in His shadow and strive to bring glory and honor to His name.
Your brother in Christ,
T.S.K.
