Words ate slowly away at what she had thought were concrete defenses, but somehow the snaggletoothed buck chipped them all away. Slowly. Determined. They faded as the light did, and in the night she gave in.

Morning came all too quickly and before the light could show him for what he was, Poisoned Gift pulled himself carefully from the still-sleeping doe and left her there, unawares. With nary a hoofbeat to give him away, he crept away before she could wake. Before she could ask questions. Before she would have the chance to confront him about what had happened. His sharp teeth showed in a toothy grin as the smug buck slowed his pace once he had put a good amount of distance between himself and last night.

"I'm too clever sometimes," the monstrous male laughed after speaking up to the songbird who swooped in over his head, chittering in a scolding manner; Trick was fiercely protective of her kimeti, and when he slipped away from her like that she worried. Thus, the scolding. But Poisoned Gift just shrugged it off and kept moving in the direction of his home. He could use a meal and a nap!

She had watched the couple from a distance with a sense of growing disgust, but she watched on, morbidly fascinated with this charade that they were able to delude themselves into. The doe, though she tried to keep distance, obviously didn't understand the reality of separation. It would have been no different if they had mated or not, but it made a difference to that doe and that was the delusion. As she continued to watch though, the disgust melted away into apathy.

Night fell and the couple were sleeping, Mistaken for Closeness was about to walk away from the scene of the reminder of the truth of her naming dream when she saw the buck rise and creep away. Strange that he would disappear into the night when he was the one who had initiated the farce that had taken the entire day. Disgust for the doe led Delusion to come forward, ghostlike in her silent steps and impassive face. She followed the path that she had seen the buck take, following him with her keen hearing.

The laugh caught her interest and made her reevaluate the performance that had unfolded before her. It was no less disgusting, but at least it was less so, in a way. She followed and soon overtook him, coming up by his side with a silence born from her nature and practice. "Don't you think it would be easier if you were truthful?"
